The question is when Trent Brown comes back does he replace Wynn?
I think the more root question is "does" Brown come back? (I remain thoroughly unconvinced) As for your ask however, they were already rotating Herron for Wynn yesterday which would be supportive of your theory.

I don't know the rule at all but I think it'd be pretty clear to a defender when someone is no longer blocking them and trying to run a route??
The last thing we should ever want refs trying to do is legislate "intent". I agree however, why does it matter - holding is holding - even if it was a run why can the defender hold the blocker just the same as the reverse being a penalty because it prevents a possible play by the defender?

There goes Jakobi again (for the 3rd time) getting it in the endzone for 2.
The review panel has decided that six points is six points and Meyers has been gifted an honorary TD (has about the same merit and usefulness as a honorary degree for celebrities, but maybe he can get a red carpet photo or something now?)

What exactly is the rule about holding in the end zone and a safety? I can’t find it in the NFL rulebook. This is all it says:
————-

SECTION 5 - SAFETY

ARTICLE 1. SAFETY

It is a Safety:

  1. if the offense commits a foul in its own end zone or;
  2. when an impetus by a team sends the ball behind its own goal line, and the ball is dead in the end zone in its possession or the ball is out of bounds behind the goal line.
———-
The holding that they called didn’t happen in the end zone unless you are talking about the hold from start to finish but that isn’t how holding is flagged. Was BB just gambling that the flag was for holding in the end zone?
If the ball was in the end zone when the holding occurred, then it would be a safety

And look at Van Noy. Looks like he could have been held there. That definitely would have been a safety if the flag was for that…maybe that is what BB was really challenging?
By the rules, I dont think the good had to occur in the end zone, I think the hold has to occur while the ball (Herbert) is in the end zone for it to be a safety

Were the refs correct to pick up the holding / PI flag on Henry near the goal line on the drive we failed on 4th and goal? He pretended to block, then went to release , and was clearly held but the refs said no flag because he was pretending to block at first. I don't know the rule at all but I think it'd be pretty clear to a defender when someone is no longer blocking them and trying to run a route??
It's not like your allowed to hold someone when you're blocking them either, missed call

Could've and should've been a much easier win, but for some horrible reffing and some horrible mental lapses. Impressive nonetheless.

It's interesting how off the pace Hightower seems to be, I don't have the snap count, but it seems to me like Bentley is being phased into his role. Also KVN, while not as impactful as previous seasons, doesn't seem to be blitzing as much, seems to have a more traditional MLB role now, I think?

Haven’t had the chance to watch the entire game just yet but, from what I have seen, any conversation about Mac’s arm/deep ball should be settled. If he has the time to throw it, he’s accurate.

Mac didn’t loose the game which is the key in these tight games. Was he at his best? No he wasn’t but he didn’t loose the game and when it came down to it to make those important throws on the last drive he nailed them. He is a rookie and not every game is he gonna be perfect but the most encouraging thing for me was he didn’t hesitate to throw the deep pass when he started missing them. I’d rather he overthrow it then under thrown it and it get picked.

I said before the red zone play calling at the 1-5 yard line was utterly bizarre. Run Harris down there. Also if we are going to throw fades down there it should be to Harry he has the size and we saw he can make those type of catches.

I agree and this seems obvious so why don't BB and JM do it? I have no idea.

A few things on the questionable offensive playcalls that I noticed after watching highlights again this morning:

1) On Bolden's failed 3rd and 1 carry, I had forgotten that they'd basically succeeded with that on two other 3rd and shorts earlier in the game, with Bolden. You can still argue that they went to that well too many times (and I won't argue against it) but at least it was a call that HAD worked twice before. Which when the same criticisms are levied later about "Do what's working, why overthink it", you have to take into account.

2) I don't have a problem, in principle, with them throwing on 3rd and 4th and goal from the 1. If the Chargers were stacking the box and you thought you had a matchup you could exploit, you trust Mac to be careful with the football and take your shot. I don't even necessarily have a problem with the play/route called on 4th down, but my question is: Why design that look to go to Meyers? Fade routes and jump balls aren't really his game, and we (theoretically) have Harry here to do just that. And Goal Line is a good time to have Harry out there anyway, because he's a decent blocker when you do run the ball.

Interestingly enough, two plays before that I think, they were setting up for a play where Bolden was out wide, then motions back in and it appeared at the time that he was going to take a pitch from Mac, but the Chargers called timeout before the play so it was stopped. That same motion happened later in the 4th quarter on the 2-pt conversion following the Phillips pick-6, and the pitch was actually a fake, with the ball then going to Meyers. I have to believe that was the play call on the previous look too, and it's too bad the Chargers called timeout because it's likely Meyers gets his first TD and those 3rd/4th down calls never have to happen.

There was also a throw to Meyers that was only 10-15 yards down the field, but was an absolutely DART. So consistency issues aside, he definitely showed some potential arm strength in multiple ways last night.

Yea there were a few throws which had some additional mph on them.

Herbert is not big time yet which I said during the week and why I thought this game was winnable.

Pats should’ve blown them out if it weren’t for the refs.

O line was eh in pass blocking.

Harris was held back by the refs.

Harry made some clutch grabs.

Aghlor looked irritated with so many over throws.

Judon is having a great year.

Chargers saw the curse of the former player in Phillips.

Uche meanwhile is a ghost. I watch him on passing downs and he has zero rush moves. I though he’d have a better year than this.

I can’t stand Jalen Mills. He’s been bad all year. Poor use of money.

No close ups of Steve again. Is Bill hiding him now on the sidelines?

Yes, Bill spends his time figuring out where cameras will look on the sideline, it’s very important to him.

High played 53% of the snaps vs the Bolts.

He looked bad on a couple of plays yesterday.

The year layoff hurt him.

He's playing lighter but it has not helped his quickness.

I hope he can round back into form by the end of the year.

He's not getting as much time in the pocket as he should. The o-line is better but not great. 70% completion is remarkable given what he has to work with.

Bolts have a good pass rush. Best they've faced this season this far

The Bad:
Mac Jones - Today was his worst day completion wise. 18/35. He did seem to settle down some in the 2nd half, but the game overall wasn't good.
Jamie Collins - You're within half a yard of Hebert and can't sack the dude? With YOUR athleticism? WTF..
Red Zone play-calling - Against the worst run defense and you call ZERO running plays? And nothing to your TEs? And you wonder why Jones was jittery, McDaniels. You didn't help him out any.
Bourne - 4of 7 for 38 yards and a fumble. The fumble was a good play by Derwin James. But still got to work on the ball security.

The UGLY:
Van Noy - He was out of position so much today. He's toast. I'd rather the Pats give his snaps too Uche. Pats need to cut their losses with him because the breakdown is causing others to have to try and cover for him. And I don't typically advocate for cutting players mid-season unless they are hurting the team..
Mills - Still plagued by his hamstring injury.. He was close to being in position on that TD play, but was off-balance and couldn't get a good jump.
Hightower- He's trying to do too much and cover for his friend, Van Noy. Got juked out of his pants by Jackson..
Refs - They were horrible. San Diego was holding so much and committing so much DPI that went uncalled. I was shocked when they called two holding calls in SD.

The GOOD:
Adrian Phillips - 2 Picks today. One for a TD. Guy was a beast.
Damien Harris - Continues to be a monster runner for the Pats.
N'keal Harry- 2 receptions for 30 yards. Made say good blocks on running plays as well.
Gunner - 4 Punt returns averaging 20 yards per return !!!!! WOW...Have loved him since he signed..
Nick Folk - WOW.. Just WOW.. He continues to be money inside the 50.

The two throws to the corner on 3rd and 4th and 1 were stupid. If he didn’t want to run Harris up the guy he simply should have pitched it to him outside and let him find a seam. If you are at the 1 and going for it either way then run the ball twice.
