Is Steve Belichick part of the problem on defense?

This doesn't seem to be a Defensive problem in the big picture. Sure, the Secondary was weak, and we couldn't get any pass rush to truly affect Dak. BUT - they held one of the best offenses in the NFL to 3 red zone stops, 4th down stop, 2 TO's. They held them in check for 3 quarters. The problem is the Offense. We had so many chances, but couldn't sustain any drives through the middle 30 minutes of the game. Horrible play calling, and bad personnel management in the midst of the game - which kept our D on the field for 75% of the time. They ran out of gas.

That said - 1. we need another #1CB - say, someone like Gilmore.
2. we need another pass rusher DE than can win - like Judon

Sounds like he's calling out the coaching on defense. This is the first time I've heard a leader in the locker room like D-Mac calling out the coaching. I've said it before when this starts to happen then it's time to pay attention and seats on the coaching staff should be getting warmer now.

His entire quote:

“We were in a tough call for the route they ran. They dialed up a good play for what we tried to do, kind of situational football. What they like to do, we tried to take it away. Dak [Prescott] was able to hold it for another second. We kind of took the first two reads, the two tight ends to the flat on our left side, but an extended play, he got to kind of get back to the middle. That’s where we were kind of light at and that was it.”

Somewhat of a disingenuous snippet of what McCourtey said there. Seeing the full quote definitely changes things.

It seems the opposite. He said the Pats took away Prescott's first two reads, but Prescott extended the play allowing Lamb to run free and get the TD. From the sound of it, he thought the play call was the right call.

The fact is the front seven were gassed and beaten up and they no longer could pressure Prescott like they were doing earlier in the game giving Prescott extra time to hold onto the ball.

Maybe. Just thought it looked like he was questioning "the call". If a leader in the locker room is saying this then we know he's not the only one.

Maybe it’s just that they don’t have a lot of talent on defense and they were completely gassed

But he isn't though. When he said that the Pats took away a QB's first two reads, it is clear that he didn't have a problem with the play. If you take away a QB's first two reads, you called the right play.

If anything, he is questioning the execution of the pass rush allowing Prescott to buy an extra second to let Lamb get open. But I don't think that was what he was saying either.

Lamb is their best receiver. I would think any call would look to take him away not their JAG TEs.

I saw Judon on one play just basically standing in one spot dazed pre-snap, then through the play, then after the play, taking maybe two drunk looking steps. He wasn't the only one. They were absolutely gassed. Gotta think the in-game injuries really messed with the rotation.

Schultz has been far from a jag his production is outshining both our free agent prized tight ends combined.
However Lamb Cooper and Gallup.
Vs Alligator Arms Agholar, Kendrick Bourne and Jacobi Meyers.
Meyers and Bourne would be fighting it out for the number 4 or number 5 spot in Dallas.
This is why we lost.
We don't have the horses at WR.
This team played their hearts out and I couldn't be more proud.

Our offense doing nothing for 2-3 quarters a game is the biggest ‘defensive’ problem we have

I don't care who is their best receiver, you call plays to stop the play that is currently being run not based on who the best weapon is. So if they didn't cover the "JAG TE" and doubled or tripled Lamb and that TE made a play to pick up 20 yards putting the Cowboys in field goal range to kick the winning FG, what is the difference unless you bet on the game.

The 3rd and 25, playing 25 yards off the line and conceding 24 yards (for a make-able 49 yard field goal), is almost in the territory of Rob Gronkowski playing safety in Miami.
The "3rd and 25" defensive play call was deserving of it's own thread, like 4th and 2. I mean it cost us the game, right? They rush 3 (or it looked like 2 they were so overmatched) and nary a defender in that 25 yard zone. This is where you put some pressure and force a quick throw. I just don't know anymore.

And I wonder who punched Bill in the mouth at halftime.

Yeah, its like I told someone else. Sometimes you have to score 30 points to win. Pats had to do that quite a few times in the last 20 years. If you cannot do that, then you are not going to win much.

This is where kneeling before the half, refusing to attempt 4th downs , and not throwing until 3rd down in ot makes even less sense. The game has evolved and we’re playing like it’s 1980. The defense can play its heart out but they’re going to let up eventually if they’re not supported

Bill would have to demote his son...

Also, I expect Joe Judge to get fired and I'm sure he'll be brought back like a lot of ex-Patriots coaches.
Not sure if the Giants will fire a third coach in four years. Four in seven if you count Coughlin's "Resignation".
