Gasper: I think Bill is realizing his system doesn't work without high level QB play

This is the dumbest thing Gasper has ever said and he has said a ****load.

What "system" does work without high-level QB play.
It's not even a high-level QB. Tom Brady is the only modern QB to never have a losing season.

Manning had losing seasons before his prime after that he always had a winning record.

HOF QBs like Brett Favre, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Rothlisburger have all had losing seasons IN THEIR PRIME.

That's how great Brady is, with a GOAT HC they never went worse than 9-7 and made the playoffs every single year aside from that year.

No team will have that kind of success again.

Just look at their Chiefs, there 3-4 year window looks like it is closing and they will need to rebuild after a couple of losing seasons

You know if you people are going to compare QB's who are 20th in the NFL in passing to To Brady, you are not going to be taken serious. You need to stop this **** of, oh, look Tom did that so he will be Tom Brady crap. Its just silly. I could tag about 5000 QB's as that, and they didnt make it. Comparing any QB to Brady after 5 games is not only stupid, its disrespectful.
It’s true. You can’t compare Mac to Brady after the first five games of their rookie years. Brady wasn’t even holding a clipboard yet. He was the 3rd or 4th QB on the depth chart. Then he became the greatest QB of all time.

Dante Culpepper was looking good in Minnesota circa 2000, though.

It was reported several years ago that the Patriots coaching staff believed it could have had the same success with any top 15 Qb.

I don't think it's a secret in terms of the hubris of Bill and the staff. But they are finding out quickly that a team comprised of mid tier talent with an average QB is a disaster.

I don't even blame Jones as I was hoping the team building philosophy would change and we would get a few dynamic players but nope. We over spent on mid tier players who cannot elevate without a great QB leading them.

I am not interested in answering questions from someone who can't be bothered to answer one that I've asked in order to set up my answer.
It does not require any set up.
Are you really saying that, if you were in charge of the Patriots, you wouldn't take a Jones for Watson trade?
You'd take him, not knowing what his long term status is?

I remember that report but we have to remember we don't know who actually said that. It could of been a janitor for all we know. It was an arrogant statement though and as good as NE has been having **** like that leak is really weak culture wise.

Wickersham's book mentions it.

If you gave us any of the top 15, we could do it" an assistant coach said. "I don't think the coaches view Tom as special as everyone else in football does. Mr. Kraft thinks Tom is the greatest gift ever, but the coaches don't.

It was from Ian O'Connor quoting "an assistant coach". Which literally could be anyone. It says "us" but I wouldn't be surprised if the "assistant coach" wasn't with the organization at all.

Dude is a dweeb that never stepped on a field in any sport with a pair of cleats on. I don't think any one else in the Boston media annoys me more. He is a pompous, sarcastic, self-appointed know it all.

I highly doubt he has any connections in the Pats org that would be in the know of BB's thinking on personnel...or any other thoughts for that matter, including
People seem to like My Crease and he's just a tiny widdle guy who never played sport professionally.

Just a reminder that it’s NFL Week 6.

I think the comparisons are meant to be stylistic, not how good a QB they are

lol, I love how people just believe any crap that gets reported. If the organization truly thought that, they would have gone for a cheaper top 15 QB other than Brady much sooner. Stop with this, it's narratives that people use to justify their stupidity about the last year and a half after Brady.

If an actual assistant coach actually believes that and they are still here they need to be let go because clearly they are very bad at their job.

As I remember it, at the time that "assistant coach" was widely believed to be none other than Patriots HOFer Chris Simms

That would be right on brand. LOL

Does it really seem that hard to believe though? The Patriots have emphasized their system and culture since we won the first chip in 2001. I think they totally believed in it until they got a good look at Cam Newton and now Jones. No system supersedes having great players.

oh yeah, they just kept Brady for 20 years. Stop being so gullible.

Are you denying that the Patriots believed more in their system than the players?
I dont know what the Pats believed with Brady because I'm not a part of the upper brain trust of the org. I think BB's public comments run completely counter to that argument, but you can believe the quoted, unnamed assistant if you want to fit your personal narrative.

As for the rest of the team, yes that would seem to be the case
