Gilmore traded to Carolina

He didn't allow deep plays?
With that Offensive Line play, nobody allows deep plays to the pats right now.

That could be it, too. But he is a solid tackler, which one shouldn’t take for granted when considering the Bucs other CB options were practice squaders. I think Sherman allowed 7/7 for around 75 yards. Again, not good by any stretch, but he kept the play in front of him.

There seem to be a lot of people here who don't quite grasp how the comp picks work.

If he stayed with the Pats for the rest of the season *and* signed a large contract (32 at the start of next season & coming off a major injury) *and* played a significant number of plays during the first year of that large contract, the Patriots *might* get a comp pick in the 2023 draft *if* they don't sign any big free agents of their own.

Getting a comp pick for Gilly if they kept him was far from guaranteed.

BTW - If he gets traded, any comp pick value would go with him and if he gets traded to a team that negotiates an extension before the trade, no one gets a comp pick.

I meant let him walk instead of franchising him in 2020.
Ah. Yea. I think it was a Jimmy G situation. They wanted to keep him as long as they could before they couldn't and by doing that compromised any leverage in getting a decent return on him (comp pick, trade etc)

Well, yes, after cutting Gilmore we do.

Nice of you to judge a move before it happens.

Maybe someday you'll get over the butthurt.
I don't know why you're getting so pissy. Not everyone needs to agree with absolutely every move Bill makes.

Think of how the Eagles SB could have ended if our DBs could tackle in that game. Apparently tackling is an overrated stat and actually shows how bad you played. JJones had the same # of tackles as Sherman and has been in the system for years. Mills allowed a 117 passer rating (Sherman allowed 114) and he went to TC and has played four games. Lavonte David allowed a 131 passer rating and a TD. I guess David is also garbage.

On the other hand, Van Noy had 67% missed tackles. He couldn't even tackle Brady for gods sake. That's garbage.

The cap room is a more valuable asset and is guaranteed.

Not only that but with all the FA we signed, don't they work against any comp picks we would get? I doubt Pats get any comp picks.

Even if they did get a comp pick, $6-7m to get a late 3rd rounder isn't exactly a good deal in my mind.

oddly its curran who has a different opinion on this

Because -- as with all those other moves -- when you look at the dynamics around the player, the likelihood of him being out the door is staring you right in the face. In Gilmore’s case, the factors are stacked up pretty high.

He’s carrying out a shadow-holdout. He’s 31. He never got on the field in training camp to show how well his surgically-repaired quad has healed. He’s got a cap hit in excess of $16M. He’s got a $7M salary. The Patriots are just $54K under the cap and want to sign Jamie Collins, apparently. In the 11 games he played last season, he wasn’t close to the corner he was in 2019 when he was the DPOY. And as great as he was in 2019, he closed that regular season getting devoured by Ryan Fitzpatrick and DeVante Parker in a must-win game.

The Patriots, through the first four weeks of the year, have learned that they are not up Poop’s Creek without a paddle in the secondary sans Steph.

Meanwhile, Gilmore had angled his situation as favorably as possible. Nobody wants quad surgery. But the injury allowed Gilmore to land on the PUP list. And when it was time to come off, he could have slow-played it for three more weeks. He could have come back after that time expired, made about $1M per game, gotten credit for the season and become a free agent.

I get the indignation I’m seeing and hearing over the lack of return the Patriots are potentially going to get. Getting something is better than getting nothing.

If the Patriots dealt him at the deadline last year, they'd have gotten something. They did not. So as it stands, Gilmore will have played five games post-2020 trade deadline all at a sub-Steph level and for a generous rate of pay since the team gave him a raise last year.

We can't be context-free on the analysis.

I'm starting to think josh and his college roommate ziegler are tanking to get bb out. Nightmare scenario for the pats

Are you implying that McDaniels' master plan is suck so bad that he gets his boss fired, yet they would be happy handing the reins over to someone who sucked? Do you think through your McDaniels hate posts, or do they fall out of you like a prolapsed anus?

Well I was right that Gilmore played his last down in NE. His price may have been higher to play in NE than the team of his choosing. His body language looked like he checked out last year.

Don’t be shocked if he takes less money than he reportedly wanted in the offseason.

Not so sure he'd have a choice.

Are you saying he hates his coach? Lol
