Gilmore traded to Carolina

More info presumably from the agent:

Seems to me to be a lot for a new team to take on: Pay me like a top corner, yet I can't/won't play at 75%-80% level, whatever that means?

Now the quad is "good", but nothing on tape to verify that, but pay me like a top corner?

This doesn't make sense to me. If his quad is good now, then the Pats wouldn't be asking him to play at 75%-80%. He can't be simultaneous healthy enough to play for another team, but only 75%-80% if he plays for the Pats.

So you're basically getting him for $3M this year and $2M of dead money a year for the next 4 years, if my cap-o-nomics are accurate.

but then why not just let him play the year out and let him hit free agency? He’s easily worth more to us than anything we can get for 5.8m for this season. Does bb see a decline in play?
Because he wouldn't play without a new deal, apparently, and would hit them at $400k/week while sitting.

ohh ok I didn’t know it had progressed to the point where he was going to sit the whole year without a new deal

i dont see anybody trading for him now that he’s about to be released
Yeah, we'll see...should be interesting...It could start a serious bidding war though. Teams that feel that they will lose out if he becomes a FA will likely be willing to part with a lot more now....A lot of interested teams out there. KC, GB, Tampa, Dallas, AZ,Rams etc...

haha i had just edited my post while you were responding. Might be worth it to someone to give up a late rounder before he hits the market

Gilmore for Godwin straight up...

Lol…what planet are you on? That trade won’t happen for numerous reasons. Here are some realistic options that align with the Patriots needs.

  • Mike Edwards, FS - Would start on most teams. Duron Huron type with excellent coverage skills.
  • Ronald Jones, RB - Fallen out of favor but was #38 overall in 2018. I don’t like him, but he’s talented.
  • Keyshawn Vaughn, RB - #76 overall last year; still developing as a James White type third down back.
  • Aaron Stinnie, LG - Solid backup who started every postseason game when Kappa went down.

If a team trades for him, they still have to negotiate with him. So why wouldn't they just wait until he is a free agent and negotiate with him then?

If he really wants to be a Packer I doubt he gets $15 mill. They seem to be generally pretty conservative when it comes to free agents.

They have changed that philosophy this past offseason. They know Rodgers is gone after this year and trying to win one this year.

How the fck do the Rams have cap space?

Ok, he goes to GB then...sorry Bucs.

What’s the point of having a cap if you can just water it down with void years?
The years void in the contract (the player doesn't get paid nor does he play for the team) but the years don't void on the cap, in fact they accelerate (i.e. all hit the cap at once) when the contract gets voided. This is exactly what happened with Brady's contract and why we had so little money to spend on FA last season.

Sure.…if they have something better to offer. Usually teams prefer draft picks fo players, but since you brought up Godwin, I listed the players who make more sense.

Eh, to be fair he has one already. Probably just wants to get paid.

Ya the guy has a SB and a DPOY he ain't looking for rings and trophies, he's looking for 1 last big contract.

I don't know why they would deal with a bunch of void years to keep princess happy when he is gone at the end of the year.

I am guessing he was going to hold out.

I don’t think they care
They (Tampa) probably don't and I get it.. As for the Packers, they have $7 million in cap space this year but has anybody looked at their 2022 cap costs?? They are $33 million OVER the cap for next year which means lots of cuts and restructures....
Green Bay Packers Salary Cap | Over the Cap
I don't see how they can afford Gilmore....

i dont see anybody trading for him now that he’s about to be released

edit: or maybe they would to get dibs on him
It has been done several times over the past year with vets. Using the media to try to drum up late trade interest before making the release official.
