Wickersham book discussion

It was too late to deactivate him.

Malcolm admitted he was not ready. He SAID it.
Going the “he said it” route hasn’t worked out well in the past. He likely didn’t mean it. He had extra reasons to show gratitude since he was hitting the market. I said this at the time, but the fact that Vrabel signed him always told me it wasn’t a drunken brawl with a coach in a hotel room. This was Patricia exercising his small **** energy and BB having Patricia’s back over Butler’s which, ultimately, cost them a Super Bowl.

I disagree. You and I have debated the crux of those comments 1000 times.

When a player admits they weren't "dialed in" and "100% prepared" that speaks volumes.

There are plenty of co-ordinators they could choose from.

Imagine Bowles coming here lol.
Apparantly BoB was angling for the job, and intentionally tried to get fired from the Texans to do so….
Ultimately, according to the book, Kraft, Brady and a few others discussed scenarios about who would replace Belichick. If offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels left after the season to be a head coach elsewhere, New England could hire O'Brien and he could perhaps one day succeed Belichick.

“The plan was fanciful," Wickersham writes, "but O'Brien heard about it. He was in a power struggle of his own in Houston, fighting with general manager Rick Smith, a 'dysfunctional' and 'toxic' situation, according to the Houston Chronicle. The leaks from O'Brien's camp, claiming he wanted out, were so aggressive as to be suspicious, as if he knew he had a golden parachute. In the end, though, the [Texans] chose O'Brien over Smith, giving the coach more control over football operations. O'Brien later joked to a confidant that it was a somewhat empty victory. 'I was trying to get fired,' he said."

I keep seeing BB leave and be the HC of the NY Giants.

Brady had the hat in his locker.
Trump was his friend before he ran for President. Very different than Bill penning a letter openly endorsing him as President. Here is the excerpt. Notice that Bill flubbed the mtg with the players too because they could see he wasn't being genuine.

BTW, it was probably Brady that got them to reconsider boycotting practice.

  • In 2016, after then-presidential candidate Donald Trump read a letter of support from Belichick at a campaign rally, Patriots assistant coach Brian Flores told Belichick that several players were angry and that he "needed to say something" to the team. Belichick addressed the team, but it didn't help initially. Many players felt he was being disingenuous. "It was hypocritical and out of character," a Patriots player recalled. "I don't think he's an intolerant coach. He isn't a bad guy. Bill just f---ed up and justified it in a way that he would never accept from a player." After the meeting, a small group of Patriots players considered boycotting practice but then reconsidered.

I mean who cares if he endorses someone for President?

You’ve never said something you didn’t mean before because you were considering something else coming down the pike? I get it. You don’t like to blast Bill for this. But even a not dialed in Butler is light years better than Johnson Bademosi.

I know it's sad. Everyone is looking for some sort of hidden reason but I always thought it was just a coaching choice. If this is really the reason and they also brought back Patricia....I mean? We have many rings but you can't just throw the SB away. He had to go back in at half.
It's really weird all around, because in that situation, it would seem a gimme for a coach to look Butler in the eye and say, "Alright, you *******, You think you deserve to be on that field? Then get out there and prove it!"

There is no better motivator than anger, right? Butler seeing red and missing tackles? I doubt it.

He didn't violate a team rule. It wasn't disciplinary. Malcolm was not prepared to play at the level they needed so they didn't play him.

He was drained from the flu and couldn't get up for the game.
Yea, no.

You've been all in hook, line, & sinker to their BS line. There was always a reason for why they were so mysterious and not forth coming about the reasons. They lied to us to cover their arrogance. I knew when the truth came out it would make them look like total incompetents. That's why they lied about the reason because there was no justifying it.

I did the math once now revising....

In 2000 the average NFL team was worth $423B
In 2021 the average NFL team was worth $3.5B

That is +8+x ROI over a 21 year period.

In 2000 the NEP franchise valuation was $464B
In 2021 the NEP was worth $5B

That is a 10+x ROI over a 21 year period.

They way I see it, BB and TB12 have made Orchids of Bob $1.5B.
The reality: privately team-owned stadiums are the key to elevated valuation vs peers.
And the bigger the stadium, the greater the valuation.
Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder would agree.
Bob made a wise decision back in the mid 90's (except for leaving a wide open gap in one of his end zones)

Might not be total incompetence and probably a bit of all of it is true. Even so though, why not put him in at the half? He sat and you made your point We are getting lit up, put him in! At that point it was ego for sure unless we are missing something. We've gotten quotes out of that building that they can win SBs with any decent QB so it COULD be arrogance but who knows what really happened.

These excerpts are stunning. I had my suspicions about Bill the last 18 months and what might have went down. But this is over the top especially the Kraft quotes.

Absolutely. He's going into FAcy, looking to cash in. He just witnessed those mfers throw away a SB. He wasn't about to piss away his future by pissing off one of the most powerful men in the NFL over this. He said what he "had to say" to move on.

I can't wait till the Pats lose more draft picks for that.

The game was winnable without him, but it wouldn't have hurt to put him in for a series or two...

For the same reason Harris wasn't in the game instead of Bolden inside the RZ in the 4th qtr. For the same reason Rham is still benched. Bill is an arrogant pr*ck.

It's easy to say that when we lose but he's done things like that just as other coaches have and we have won. I don't know what the deal was with Bolden but someone suggested here it was due to pass protection? I do think the way he runs his ship will not work if you don't win so lets see if he can adapt.

WTF?
The media is garbage. How is this an article? Copy a quote from another article and create a whole new one to spew some tweets out and get some clicks. This pay per click **** has to stop. This is just sports but it happens everywhere and the sheep rally.
