3 reasons why I accept a week 1, 1 point loss to the Dolphins

People really need to stop making comparisons to anything in 2001 regarding QB performance. Kurt Warner was MVP and the best in the game that year with 36 TDs and 22 INTs. Justin Herbert as a rookie was better than that just last year. It was a different game in 2001.

Yes, it's a different game, which is why Herbert WASN'T better than Warner.

Mac looked good, but a loss at home to the fish is unacceptable. This team has a lot of work to do.

As straham told jimmy Johnson, there are no moral victories.
I’m sick to my stomach
Yea, Patriots aren't the type of team that are satisfied with "good" losses. That's more of a Dallas thing.

1: The Dolphins are a playoff contender. If Tua plays well they'll be in the mix right up to the end. We played even with a team that shoud have played us even, they just happened to get 1 more point than we did.

2: Mac10 looked GOOD. Like really good. Like making poised throws that moved the offense down the field and being calm and level headed and making good decisions and making accurate throws on timing plays. To the point that with the issues shown in the rushing attack we might want to move up the timetable for when we start handing Mac most of the offensive burden because it looks like he can handle it.

This is going to sound sacrilegious, but Mac right now looks better than Brady did early in 2001 and he had the team in position to win the game before Harris coughed up the ball. He came within spitting distance of completing a TB12 style comeback and it was someone else's mistake that stopped it from happening. I'm all in on Mac10 at this point.

3: Belichick never places a ton of stock in the first couple games. He has a tendency to trade early wins for information, and then make it up in the second half. He will take risks in week 1 he'd never take in week 13. We got a lot of information tonight that Bill will use to coach the team up. We learned a lot about what this team is rather than what we thought it was, and not all of it was bad

I don't care how good the Dolphins are, whether its the first game of the season or the last, thats a game we should have won. We were down a point on their 9 yard line with a couple minutes to go. We just cannot turn the ball over in that situation, and I hope Belichick lights them up for that.

Regarding Mac Jones play I agree he looked great and I think exceeded exceeded expectations (at least mine anyways). Starting his first game of the season against a blitz happy Brian Flores defense, I would not have been surprised if he had several stacks and interceptions. Instead he was calm in the pocket in third and long stepping up in the pocket making big plays for first down. This to me was more important than anything else. Yes I know its just one game, but it was a great first game...

The bad news is, NOTHING was as good as it could have been tonight.

The good news is, nothing was as good as it COULD have been tonight.

No moral losses what are we Cowboys fans now? We lost and in division. Need to win next week

Mac looked really good. I was not expecting him to throw for 40 passing attempts. 29/39 281 yards 1 TD 74.4% completions. He is a rookie starting his first game. Incredible.
I'm sure he's thrilled with those numbers. What is he, the next ARodgers?

Mac is the baby GOAT. He now holds three mini-GOAT records:
  1. Highest NCAA single season completion %
  2. Highest NCAA single season QBR
  3. Highest NFL rookie QB debut completion % (30 passes to qualify)

That's nice. I'm sure he'll stamp those records on a piece of toilet paper before he wipes his ass. Lmao

This is actually a tough loss. We typically don’t play well in Miami and now that game will likely be very important. This isn’t the AFC Least anymore. Need to win at home against the Phins and Bills to contend for the division.
Division games are always important no matter where they're played.

The Pats also weren't historically the type to be spreading dirty rumors about players as they left (Cam). So who knows, the stench of some losers in the organization seems to be permeating.

I agree. His first game, against a defense that's probably gonna grade out in the top half at the end of the year, and the kid played like a veteran. VERY impressed.

Think about how illogical this is.

Taking a loss so that, later in the season when you play again, you may have a small advantage which might help you avoid taking a loss.

I don't really care about the loss as much. We're going to be in the middle of the scrum for the division for the duration of the season regardless of how week 1 ended. The days of sure wins in the division are long gone.

What I was looking for in that game was first and foremost, does Jones look like the captain of the ship. And we get 3 stars on that one. Mac Jones nearly pulled a TB12, it certainly wasn't Jones' fault that we lost that game, he was in control until McD took the ball out of his hands in the red zone.

Jones learning and maturing in his job is more important to the future of this football team than any one win right now. If we wind up missing the playoffs but Jones looks like a longterm franchise QB I for one would be prepared to declare this season a success. And this game put us a HECK of a lot closer to being there. Jones answered a ton of questions today and it can't possibly be overstated how critical that is for the future of this franchise for this season and beyond..

How is that illogical? It's not about taking a loss, it's about experimenting with various personnel groups to figure out who you can count on down the road. If that leads to an early loss, but you have a better grasp of what your roster can and can't do down the stretch, that's probably a good tradeoff because you're making better informed decisions for the rest of the season.

Later in the season when the leverage value of wins is that much greater, no it wouldn't be. But early season is made for that kind of thing.

I guarantee you that less than 4 of the teams that won tonight are in the playoffs in January.

Do you now get extra points for winning later in the season? What does leverage value of wins even mean?

Lol…so only three teams that won in week 1 will be in the postseason?

Just keep all of this to yourself.

If you went to a Gillette full of fans and said this, I would be fearful for your safety.
