Cam Newton Interview: "I was bamboozled"

Initially I thought Cam was losing his mind and changed his stance, but then realized it was the media again being completely psycho. Here's a Maine article (looks to be pulled from the AP wire) whose title claims the exact opposite of what Cam actually said.

Notice that Cam continues to say Mac's middle name is "McClellan". So no one corrected him after he said that to a zoom full of reporters?

He's an.... interesting guy

Agree Cam's career is screwed. Worst mistake ever was going to NE (not that he had any options), and then have an OC who never called any play action or passing plays last year in the red zone, he ran for 12 TDs and scored 20 total TDs with a crap supporting cast, zero credit for the rushing TDs while the running messed up his shoulder and foot with all the hits. And the dirty sneaky sleazy media and organizational rumors about him not being able to run no-huddle or 2-minute or know the playbook. Cam is well liked among league players so this absolutely just confirms league perceptions about Boston. But whatever, Mac is here so it's not like the Pats need a QB for the foreseeable future.
It ain't the dirty sleazy media saying Cam was surprised he had to identify the Mike, set protections and recognize fronts, it is Cam himself on his own u2b video.

His career is screwed because he's a running quarterback who can no longer run at his earlier elite level due to injuries and age, and he doesn't have the skill set to be a NFL quality pocket passer. His own actions with regard to COVID show lack of decision making and leadership skills, and now he's out of the protocol so it'll take a really committed team even to get him into the facility for a tryout, never mind give him a job. After that, the team will have to take a risk that he'll be one false or true positive away from missing games. It really doesn't look good for him, and this video shows he's not all that clued in to the reality of his situation.

oh oh another Cam thread? thought he is Pats history, lets move on and by doing it let's use this lovely Ignore button yet again....

How can you be a QB in the freakin' NFL and not know the pass pro? Wouldn't you want to know where the pressure was coming from? Rhetorical, I know you know the answer, as do I. Our HS sophomore QB knows where the pressure is coming from. Our freshman guys likely don't, but they will.
The real problem is him making any issue out of it at all. He's a QB for crying out loud, talk about embarrassing.

I'm a union laborer, we do everything and have our hands in a lot of different pies. From concrete to demo, tending carpenters and brickies, final cleaning to running pipe underground.

I might be good at one thing and have my strengths in different areas. It might have went one way under a certain contract or company but if it falls under "labor" and someone asks me to handle something you best believe I'm ****ing expected to handle it. I'm not blaming it on the C. I'm not blaming the system. Easy, hard, this is how we do things here. Handle it.

I love Cam but I don't live in fantasy land. He tried to be the best Cam he could be. Not the best NEP QB he could be. Things are different here for better or worse. Two months ago he was praising Bill on some show and now he's holding court after getting cut instead of keeping his head down and keeping it moving.

Said it months ago but this was his last best shot. He'll get another opportunity but not on a team like this.

I didn't listen/watch, but did he really bleeping say that? If he said that, that's all we need to know about why he's no longer here.
I actually hand-typed that out while listening to him, it's a verbatim quote.

He went on to say these things are usually the center's job (as Lazar said) and also that "30 out of 32 teams do it like that", meaning only New England and I guess 1 other mystery NFL team ask their QBs to be able to identify the mike and understand coverages.

Yea this place needs a good cleaning. Spam and misinformation are out of control.

Kind of embarrassing if we're being honest. This isn't PP or some **** site.

It's not like you can just ignore it bc there's so many new threads popping up about the same thing and other ones are hijacked by the same creatures.

Bamboozled feels like an appropriate word for what kind of QB play us fans had to experience last year.

Cam isn't the only one saying dumb things.

College players, mostly WR/DB are freaked out about the field and hashes. Spacing is different. That's understandable.

This is just some stupid ****. First time he's ever caught an "NFL" ball lol? No one is in their ear trying to talk sense? Sheesh

Dude has caught like 3 screens all preseason. C'mon man shut up and go to work. What are you even talking about?

He wasn't helping himself with these self generated quotes....

.

Evidently a few more before you get it. In his own words he would have stayed as a backup. No one else showed interest in him as a starter or backup and today, after announcing he would be willing to be a backup his phone has not rung. Not once.
You never get tired of being wrong do you? Newton was NOT open to being a back up last season and Kurt Warner confirms it.

He said TODAY he would have agreed to be the backup
He 100% would have accepted a backup job last year if that was all that was offered. But if bb didn’t come calling, he would have had to retire last year.

Wow, the article doesn’t even say what you are saying it does, it says the opposite.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier this month that Newton is now open to a backup role with the right team.

Here's a gem I just heard in the video...

Cam: "I was like Josh, like bruh, it's so new to me, like I've never been in a system that required me to know where the mike is, to know the front, to identify you know, certain fronts, and XYZ."
Jakobi probably knows all that, and he's just the emergency QB.

When Cam first joined the Pats he spent 3 weeks asking everyone their first name because he was trying to find out who Mike was.
