Patriots Training Camp Day 17 8/25- Joint Practice with Giants

Alllllll done. Nearly 150-minutes of work in 90 degrees and humid. Mac Jones was dialed in and padded what I perceive to be his lead in QB competition. Probably about 6 plays overall for him during entire workout which weren’t fine to excellent. Agholor and Wynn left practice

With injuries. Jakobi Meyers shaken after spectacular catch between two Giants defenders during two minute drill. He seemed fine. With number of throws Jones has made the last three days I won’t be surprised if Newton gets a heavy workload tomorrow on return. Can he match Mac?

Me reading pretty much this entire thread…

You're not kidding. Reading this thread made me feel 18 again.

Watching Cam's "precision" throws Week 1 will be the ultimate blue balls though.

Tomorrow's practice is going to be really interesting. Cam might get a lot of work because he needs to get back up to speed (and Mac's arm might need a break). But if he doesn't look good and Mac does again... hoo boy...

So you support comparing him to random
Qbs and discussing what we do 5 years from now before he plays a snap?

I'm very much on the start Mac week 1 bandwagon. The rookie contract is just too important to waste. And the first year is generally a learning experience anyway. Something probably will happen at some point to open the door for Mac, but what is it doesn't? Should we be prepared for the possibility he sits all year? I'm not. BB shouldn't allow the possibility to exist either.

We also need to remember as a general rule. A QBs first year of playing in the NFL and going into the playoffs almost always ends in a loss, even for the best ones. The difference here may well be between a 3 year to 4 year championship window. That is a 33% difference, which is huge.
