45 Man Roster With Less Than Two Weeks To Go

All-pro team (as a punt returner on historically one of the best ST teams in the league).

I appreciate Gunner but I certainly wouldn't describe him as having tremendous upside. He has the ability to carve out a role with the team depending on how dominoes fall elsewhere but I haven't seen anything outstanding about him other than his work ethic.

The best comparison for him is Edelman. IMHO, Edelman (as this stage of his career) looked more developed as both a punt returner and a receiver. It seems Edelman is about 15-20% more athletic (fast/quick) than Gunner, with a slightly more robust frame to build on.

I'll pull like heck for Gunner to help the team, but I wouldn't be shocked if his time is nearing an end. His value to this team is as a punt returner, and while he's good at that, I don't think he's transcendent.

It’s a mistake sometimes to look at pro day/combine stats years later and treat them as gospel That’s a mistake I make occasionally.

Gunner has gotten bigger, quicker, faster and stronger since coming to NE. He basically lives at Gillette. There’s no way Bill cuts him.

He’s also quickly become one of the better PRs in the league. I’m not entirely sure why anyone would want to cut him.

Can a coach also QB the scout team? Would Hoyer accept a coaching position? His family loves the area and he only signed for $1 million so it wouldn't be much of a pay decrease if any.

This is sarcasm?
Patriots first year coaches, in positional roles, don't even make 6 figures. They are making plumber's wages. Hoyer was very clear about this difference.

Roster cut down schedule is another 5 to be cut by 4pm ET tomorrow and then down to 53 by 4pm ET on the 31st. Thats a heck of a drop from say 85 to 53. Will this be a gradual cut over the next 8 days or a load of guys after the Giants game (6pm ET 29th). I guess you need enough players to cover that game !

Can they handle the plumbing in the facility as well? With Patricia back, that’s going to be a daily struggle.

Hoping for many runs…. So I am “for” keeping OLs & Michel.

I think Oslzewski has an unreal upside, and he’s already an All Pro on ST’s. Harry has done nothing to deserve a roster spot over him. There is no way I would cut Gunner. I would cut every WR on this team before him.
Didn't say cut Gunner and keep Harry instead. I love Gunner too, but if we had a game on Sunday and one of our top 3 guys (Agholor, Meyers, and/or Bourne) were injured...I would be rolling Harry out there and keeping Gunner as a returner.

Yes, 3 WR's other than Gunner need to active.

I’m not a Michel hater, and I was all for keeping him on the roster, but with Stevenson and Taylor looking really good I would try to cut a deal with the Falcons or Rams for him. I think the most they could hope for is a fourth, but it’s likely they wouldn’t get more than that when they lose him to free agency next year. Even if it’s a fourth for a sixth I would make the deal, they will need the pick next draft.

My bad if I misinterpreted it Hyped, I thought you wanted to keep Harry over Gunner. That said I would still take Gunner over Harry as a receiver in the situation you described, Harry has done absolutely nothing, and Gunner is a threat to take it the distance every time he touches the ball.

I’d argue that RB is a tough position to stay healthy all year. Last year, Harris wasn’t able to suit up 16 games and I think Sony fills the roll (with the others you mentioned). I’d also caution against putting too much stock in Stevenson. While impressive, BB puts a lot of blocking responsibilities on RBs and he’s usually favoured the vets.

After the latest personnel moves this week, here is my projected 53:

(Please 8-pound, 6-ounce Baby Jesus with the Golden Fleece diapers, no Pats injuries during the Vagiants game, especially at RB - another reason why I would NOT have traded Michel until AFTER this game)

QB (2) C.Newton, M.Jones

RB (5) B.Bolden, J.White, D.Harris, J.Taylor, R.Stevenson

WR (5) N.Agholor, K.Bourne, J.Meyers, G.Olszewski, N.Harry

TE/FB (4) J.Smith, H.Henry, D.Asiasi, J.Johnson

C (2) D.Andrews, T.Karras
G (2) S.Mason, M.Onwenu
T (4) I.Wynn, T.Brown, J.Herron, Y.Cajuste

DE (4) M.Judon, D.Wise, C.Winovich, R.Perkins
DT (4) L.Guy, D.Godchaux, H.Anderson, C.Barmore

ILB (2) J.Bentley, H.Langi
OLB (4) D.Hightower, K.VanNoy, J.Uche, A.Jennings

CB (6) S.Gilmore, J.Jackson, J.Jones, J.Mills, S.Wade, J.Bethel

SS (2) A.Phillips, K.Dugger
FS (3) D.McCourty, J.Williams, C.Davis

ST (4) Slater, J.Cardona, J.Bailey, N.Folk

Total players: 53
Created with Pats Picker: Pats Picker 2019

- No need for a #3 QB;

- Still think that Bolden has enough juice in his legs to take snaps at RB without being a total liability;

- Harry is named to the 53, then immediately sent to short-term IR;

- Warring gets waived in the hope that with so many other players waived, he sneaks through unclaimed;

- Still not a fan of the OL depth, though at least Cachoo has proven worthy of being kept, for now;

- Surprised that more DTs haven't been cut yet... Would love to keep a Real NT like Carl Davis, but the numbers - as in Guaranteed Money for Godsmack & Anderson - are against him;

- Not having Raekwon McMillan at ILB ****ing sucks;

- Would prefer to keep Myles Bryant as Backup Slot CB, but the contracts of Mills, Wade & the STers Bethel & Davis make this highly unlikely;

- Moved SloJuan to Free Safety, his more-natural NFL position.

I agree with 52, all but Langi.

PLAYER 53
I would prefer a DT to Langi.
I would prefer an OG/C to Langi. By carrying 8 OL, we would have all 8 active every weak, with no backups in case of injury.
I certainly hope that Belichick agrees with your 52. I suspect that he will have you swearing with his final pick.

Actually Edelman didn't fully develop as a receiver until his 5th year ( Gunner is in year 3). Look at Edelman's stats for receptions over his first 4 years, 37,7,4,21. In his rookie year, half of those 37 receptions came in 2 games, week 2 versus NYJ and week 16 when Welker tore up his knee early on versus Houston.
But Edelman is the exception. 99.9% of players with those first 4 years don’t turn into the player he did.
It’s like saying draft QBs in the 6th round cuz brady

Looks good. I think you have one too many OLB/ILB/edge (there just doesn’t seem to be enough reps for that many) and one too few fat DTs.

9,10,11 OLs can be on practice squad.

I’d take Carl Davis over Langi. My only difference too.

What’s up with Anfernee Jennings? Awfully quiet camp.
