Hopefully they don’t rush him back. That's good news considering it's a shoulder. I'm still rehabbing my shoulder 10 years later.
I think that's the outcome everyone here wants. The issue is can Cam actually get us to the playoffs. Everyone that had eyeballs will say based on last year, the answer is a resounding no. While Cam looks improved at practice, is it enough? He looked improved during certain games last year too, but reverted back to bad Cam for most of the season. He seems to be a really streaky player, where he has more bad than good streaks these days. It’s a shame that people here seem to have an agenda when it comes to Cam or Mac. I just want the Pats to win, I don’t care who’s at QB, just want wins. If you look at it logically, if Cam wins the starting job, and succeeds, it would be beneficial for the Pats in that, it gives Mac time to learn, and it helps Cam move on next season to earn his last decent contract elsewhere. It’s a similar similar situation to Smith and Mahomes in KC during Mahomes rookie season. If Cam earns the starting job and ****s the bed, then so be it, put Mac in there. I just wanna see the Pats in the playoffs again.
I do it all the time. Horrible habit. I mute b/c I have 3 dogs and 2 of them bark if they see a bird, squirrel, etc in the driveway or in the yard. That must drive him nuts. He's probably itching to get some work done and some asshat reporter can't remember to click the mute button... twice.
At least, it drives me nuts at work. If I could get back all the time I've wasted over the past year sitting in silence until a person says "oh, sorry, I was on mute!" I would have enough time to take an extra week's vacation, at the least.
Why is it so difficult for some fans to see how poorly Cam has played? Is it just wishful thinking?I’d argue that the QB I watched play last year processed the Qb position, reads, decision making, timing, speed of progressions, decision about what “open” means worse than a rookie.
Jones would have to be a below average rookie in those areas to be behind newton
I wouldn't discount the effect of the "Cheatriots" slander campaigns.IMO, there are 2 big reasons why there are so few players from the '00s:
1) Never has a dynastic franchise ever had its coaching/system/culture credited with so much of its success. Kraft/Bill have been front and center trumpeting the Patriot Way from the first championship on. I am not saying they were wrong for doing so but it is very difficult for players to be recognized from championship teams when the org itself has taken so much credit.
2) 2010-2019 decade was more successful than the 00s. This has probably hurt the first generation of players the most. If the teams of 2010 forward were good teams that won 1 or 2 SBs with say 3 trips then I think the 00s are looked at differently. This is also why Brady in addition to Bill/Kraft is credited with so much of the success of the 20 years because he was the only one that carried over both runs and he is the QB.
So it kind of stinks in a lot of ways but the shine kind of came off those guys a bit when the next generation of players came on the scene and won chips.
I think they like to teach the safeties the CB role. I assume Mills will be a safety mostly and drop down as a CB in a pinch. McCourty might be in his last year and I assume Mills would step in if McCourty left. Bledsoe can backup the SS and backup CB role if Mills moves to McCourty's spot next year. Replacing Gilmore and Jackson is the issue IMO.
Given what you said, it'll be interesting how Jones fares considering last season he attempted fewer than 10% of his passes beyond the first read, with an abysmal 32% completion rate. I do like what I currently see, though. The most telling observation in there...that Cam was his "most successful" when throwing to his first read.
Just like against most NFL rookies - the opposing teams are going to scheme that away. If Cam does start the season...more single wing football, here come the Patriots!
I am serious and stop calling me ShirleySurely you can't be serious.
Wouldn't be surprised if he made the team over Folk.
For all the QB talk, I’m still hoping for a VG defensive team + a VG running game / OL. I think both are possible as I feel there is skill & depth.
Former NFL league MVP, has been to a Superbowl once before, former Heisman Winner, yeah I'll take my chances on him having a comeback and Bill is giving him first dibs.
Sorry that he doesn't look the part for you. But, for Boston I get it....
A lot of really bad exaggeration. Tom Brady the goat himself only averaged 17 points per game his last season as a Patriot after AB was cut through playoff exit. The personnel was terrible. And covid fog is a real thing, Cam getting that last year was real bad luck but a real thing. Pretty ridiculous you're saying a guy's NFL MVP award was a fluke. But again, par for the course for Boston.
We pretty much didn't see Cam run the 2 minute drill at all, last year, whereas we saw it literally every game with Brady, especially at the end of the first half.I think that's the outcome everyone here wants.
So I think everyone is seeing Mac, come in and run an offense quicker, more efficiently, recognizes the defense potentially better, and seems to be very quickly grasping the Pats offensive system. It's the argument of do you stick with that you know you have or run with what you don't know. A lot of people would like to run with what they don't know, because last year what they saw was a QB that was slow on his reads, fairly inaccurate, and couldn't recognize defensive formations and adjust the play accordingly.
