Very curious how QB snaps will be divided on Thurs. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cam play just 2 series or so, then Mac, not because Cam is a protected starter, but because they want to see Mac play against close to starting D, and he needs to establish some in-game chemistry.

Nice stuff guys and gals..

Love seeing Philips having a great camp, I thought he played well down the stretch last season. IMO he's like a Chung-lite, slightly better in coverage but not quite the box safety that Chung was. I'm curious how they'll use Mills, seems like he's lining up at corner but I think he's better at FS. Really really excited about the LB/DL groups, lots of versatility and different skill sets., improved beef against the run for sure.

Seymour will get in eventually.

Agree on Rodney and Vince. Both Hall worthy but are not getting in.

Adam will be in in a few years and that's it until Gronk/Brady.
I’m confident Vince gets in. Between the “two dynasties” he was nothing short of a beast.

I just have a weird feeling they are gonna start Mac on Thursday night. Maybe he starts the 1st quarter, Cam starts the 2nd, and Hoyer plays the 2nd half.

What's your opinion of Cam and Mac today ?

My take from two padded practices:

Mac Jones operates quicker. Whether it is going through reads, delivering the ball or knowing where to go vs. a blitz it looks quicker. It's a small sample size but he didn't have an egregious missed throw. That's the difference between the two QBs IMO.

Cam looks improved. His velocity & experience is what he has on rookie. However, his weaknesses from last season show up as well. There was about a 15 yard throw to be had to Wilkerson in the 2 minute drill vs. zone coverage. It was short armed in the dirt. He also holds onto the ball too long & there would've been a few sacks.

I think fans should be optimistic about Mac. Arguably the most impressive thing I saw from him both days was he treated cover 0 no problem & got the ball out accurate to the open WR. Alot of young QBs panic (Sam Darnold MNF anyone ) vs. free rushers.

Other takeaways:

Phillips may be the biggest beneficiary of an improved front seven. No more playing LB & getting run over due to a lack of talent at the position. He's impressive in coverage. Their 3rd down defense with Phillips at safety & Dugger at dime LB is going to be fun.

Meyers catches almost everything, gets open vs man & knows where to be vs. zone. He's going to surprise some people nationally I think.

GIlmore has alot of leverage based on the play of the backup CBs. Not sure where Mills fits in - maybe in Harmon's role.

Thank you for the response and your updates at camp the past 2 days...much appreciated.

Seems all the Harry talk has drowned out a lot of the positive work Meyers has done in camp. Really happy to hear he is playing well. I think he and Bourne are very similar players...it will be interesting to see who gets snaps at WR2 and WR3 between the two. I read a couple reports this summer Meyers is really excelling in the slot so that could leave Bourne on the outside I suppose.

I thought Mills was going to help a lot at CB2 with Jackson at CB1 but it seems that's not the case. Maybe BB was waiting to see how Mills fits in before deciding on a Gilmore contract. It seems it's more likely Gilmore is back now...which I'm happy about. He's still a fantastic CB...one of the best if not the best.

Mills was my biggest question mark in FA signings. A Harmon role makes the most sense skill-wise I suppose, but they have been playing him outside which might speak more to the lack of CB depth. Then again, why couldn’t they have paid Harmon to play that role?

They should play Mac the whole game.

I think what we've been seeing is just a product of Gilmore being out. It's probably fair to ask why the team prioritized safety depth (a position which looks pretty great even without Mills) over another capable corner though. Maybe they expected more out of JoeJuan, I certainly did.

I think they like to teach the safeties the CB role. I assume Mills will be a safety mostly and drop down as a CB in a pinch. McCourty might be in his last year and I assume Mills would step in if McCourty left. Bledsoe can backup the SS and backup CB role if Mills moves to McCourty's spot next year. Replacing Gilmore and Jackson is the issue IMO.

Hard to make conclusions till preseason games. Counting every QB throw at this point is silly. They're still teaching new receivers and TEs all the plays.

But the NKeal Harry hype is funny. With the exception of injuries, it makes zero sense when the season starts, to force a target to a 50% catch rate, 9ypc bust over 6 other better pass catchers and route runners in Meyers, Bourne, Agholor, Henry, Smith, and James White. Harry shouldn't even be in more than 20 snaps a game if this offense is actually playing well and healthy.

That's about 1/3 of the plays. That would mean he's got a major role, and is causing opposing defenses to pay attention.

A team wants to have as many good WR's rotate as possible. Opposing teams DB's have to dedicate study time to each WR they will face. The higher the number of WR's that play, the more thinned out that study time becomes. The thinner it is, the less effective it is. That leads to success for the offense.

We should all be rooting for Harry to make a leap in his capability this year.

Agree with many that Gilmore’s leverage has gone up a bit as the CB play has been meh. It would be nice if they could agree on a nice little 3 year deal… but I expect just a 1 year bump for this year only and let him test the market in ‘22… which will suck since JC is also a UFA so if both are potentially gone, they’ve got problems… guess we’ll see.

Agreed but 3 years seems way too long. Remember when the JETEs resigned Revis? The guy was never an asset again. Great we let him go as the JETEs celebrated. Great move.

This 100x
Yep. We know all we need to know about Cam.

Game 1: Mac
Game 2: Start Cam for a quarter and play Mac
Game 3: Start Mac and get the dust off Hoyer to make sure he still has a pulse.
