Cam Newton: "It's really put-up or shut-up time"

Oh yea.

Rogers didn’t start until year 4.
Jimmy didn’t start until year 3.
Mahommes started 1 game in year 1.

some exceptions (much more physically gifted qbs than Mac):

Watson (6 starts y1)
Wilson (immediately)

I hope the cam hate isn’t gonna throw Mac out too early...

def see Cam the man going 200-ish a game and we’re like 4-2 or something... fans still calmouring for Mac cause... cause... iono rly.

but watch it happen.

you know we’re rebuilding right?

I have no idea what you just typed.

Saved us $$$, played to expectations...

Garroppolo (30/32) = $24m
Trubisky (31/32) = $2.2m
Lock (33/32) = $.8m
Minschew (34/32) = $.85m
Wentz (35/32) = $1.3m
Darnold (36/32) = $.75m
Foles (40/32) = $4m

ya boy cam (32/32) = $1m

seems like he played to expectations. What’s the beef here? Did we pay him too highly? Did we draft him top 60? Did we trade a haul for him?

was running the ball not a big part of our scheme in 20?

Oh wait I know what it is... we felt entitled to a Steve young... the title “pats qb” requires some minimum amt of greatness...

I’m confused. Sounds like y’all are just pissy we can’t be world beaters while rebuild. Again, 7-9 in a rebuild year ain’t... bad.

you know who would’ve gotten us three more wins for $20-30m more, then no Mac... but hey we might be closer to that first round exit eh?

but you know what I meant anyway didn’t you?

Also you’d think we’d want him to succeed so we can trade him and he ends his career off respectably (think fitz) with somebody who will need him after we don’t..... coaching up their next qbs, etc.

Let’s say he puts up numbers between ‘20 and ‘15... we still won’t need him. But hey someone will. Wanted the best for tb12 personally, want the same for cam, given that pats benefit/get something out of it (which we didn’t, but could if cam improves)

He did exactly what I feared he would; he put us in NFL purgatory in the middle of the pack. Just good enough to be out of reach of the top few QB’s and not good enough to get us to the playoffs.

Youre honestly trying to say expectations for him was to have one of the worst QB seasons of all time? I don’t think that is hyperbole either. 2600 yards, 8 TD’s and 10 INTs is about as bad a 15 game season as you will ever see. I don’t care about what he got paid. That is flat out bad.

ridiculous take.

he didn’t do anything.

prove the ‘20 team with any qb would’ve been above middle-of-the-pack.

I guess if you pay someone $0 and they go 0-16 with 75 INTs, you’ve crushed your investment and deserve a high five.

unfair. There are other variables beyond qb here.

Let’s assume ‘19 roster was same as ‘20 roster (it wasn’t), but....

6/32 in win% = 19th percentile

we could weigh against SofS (tied for 27th, but I’ll forget about that...

let’s assume “middle of the pack” = 33rd to 66th...

So in ‘19 with a weak schedule and the GoAt, and a better roster... were 4 spots above being middle of the pack.

and still got blown out first round of the playoffs.

mind you, the “middle of the pack/back/wherever” means squat if you’re not in sb contention...

so again, what did you expect?

somebody prove anybody better than cam would’ve helped us either last year, or over the next 4-5 (can’t wait for the mental gymnastics when bb is gone after that time too)... get to and win a championship game or sb.

Don’t take it out on cam cause dynasty v2 is over lol. Cause see I feel the same way about Michel and winno the same as we should cam... disappointing, but in context of a larger roster/drafting/talent collection issue.

Or or or ORRR...

for just $1m more, you get 7 more wins than that... just assuming we go by your logic of team = qb frontman.

or how abt for $30m more, you get 10 more wins...

$143k per win vs...
$3m per win

but still, no playoff chances or wins either way. Foolish.

cause qb = team is entry level stuff.

I just want to say, settle down. No amount of arguing is worth the stress you’re putting yourself through. I feel horrible for that (Doritos-covered) keyboard and the beating it’s taking.

You win, okay? Bill was right and it was the only decision and in the best interest of the Patriots  Imagine thinking in the modern NFL having the greatest QB ever made a big difference…how silly to think that.

It’s actually lime flavored tortilla chips.

I’m passionate about the team what can I say?

you’re still wrong tho bud.

Lol I am supposed to be able to “prove” a hypothetical?

Agree on what you said about covid fog. I had a colleague who, post-covid, in virtual meetings would not make verbal sense or flat out mispronounce words for several weeks. It does something to the brain in some people.

.

that’s Long Covid. And it’s a huge issue.

We didn’t overpay for Cam. So what? He still sucks and we had a losing season. “Pay peanuts, get monkeys.”

I look on this a real positive comment. Far from being a possible lockerroom problem, Newton just announced that he REALIZES that if Jones beats him out then will perform his role as back up or retire or ask to be released because he didn't "put up" Totally excited to see this competition. It tells me that Netwon is in a good frame of mind. He KNOWS that he's going to have to compete for his job and he's prepared to do it and let the chips fall where they may.

The Bottom line here is that the ONLY thing that matter is how he performs in the coming camp. Prattling on about last year is just piling on. Taking the easy and LAZY way out to pontificate and feel superior.

Hey you all may be right. That he's done and what we saw at the end of last season is always what he always going to be at this point in his career.. But I prefer to wait and see what he IS in camp and not waste my time dissecting every comment he makes in an effort to question his character and slam he performance last year AGAIN.
If Cam says that he's willing to compete but if he loses out he'll be the backup, retire or ask to be released, then that isn't really "letting the chips fall where they may."

Talk is cheap. And not very many do more of that than Cam, the wanna be icon.

If he's the starting QB for this team this year then we're screwed. It will mean that the Pats dumped the GOAT QB without another option available.

If I had to guess how we ended up in this situation mine would be that Bill was so sure that he could lowball the GOAT QB that he wasn't ready for him to leave.

I think it is PAST the "put up or shut up time". He is saying this in hopes that the evaluation will continue. I do not think BB listens to the proclamations, he simply shows up and evaluates what he sees. Bad shoulder, bad ankle, guys with lots of reasons usually can't "put up".
And we know for damn sure that it's never shut up time for him.

I can’t stand Cam. I never could in Carolina. I know people who knew him there, the night life scene. I was very vocal last offseason about his immaturity, poor leadership, and overall lackluster results.

Ten seasons; under .500 eight times. No team he’s played for has ever had a decent receiver, apparently.

The 2015 was so flukey…when people talk about one-hit-wonders they overlook just how far that season diverged from his career.

I can pretty much guarantee it will be a bad ending and the reactionary fanbase here will turn on him.

And there it is. Didn’t like him from the jump.
