Exactly, you can't change the past so BB did the best with what was available on the market. They have a good team around them.

They got their probable QB of the future, a possibly serviceable stop gap until Mac is ready and a defense that should ruin other teams day. No one will ever be Brady again, but two more years and Brady may not even be Brady.

Mac is the most Brady like QB to come out of college in a long time. So I'm excited for the season, no one is perfect and without that Tampa Bay D stepping up like that at the end of the season, Brady would have had a first round playoff exit. And we would be talking about how BB made the right decision at the right time.
In the first playoff game, the tampa defense was awful, it let a 4th string qb go up and down the field. That defense didnt change it was always the same even when they were 7-9. The reason they got better was they had a QB that took care of the ball and put other teams on their heels. Without Brady that team does not make the playoffs, I know this, because that team didnt make the playoffs without Brady.

What are some examples of quarterbacks who are good enough to win with a balanced Belichick team? Unspectacular guys who get the job done and limit mistakes - even without great skill players - and don’t break the bank either? Can you name any? I’m trying to figure what many of you mean by this.

Examples I’ve thought of: Derek Carr, Jared Goff, Nick Foles. But when these guys are presumably available as trade targets, it seems there’s so much negativity on this board from the same people who rail against needing an elite QB. If people think Andy Dalton is a guy who fits the mold, why do they revolt against the idea of trading for Andy Dalton?

To put it bluntly: I have trouble accepting an intangible description of “we don’t need an elite QB; we just need a QB who...” without attempting to give comparable player examples. It shouldn’t be so hard to find.
OMG this. lol. I am not sure why people think Brady's are falling off trees and everyone is the next brady. I have never seen Bill go out and break the bank and buy a bunch of players in the offseason...until Brady was gone. There might be a day that the pats can get back to being a competitive playoff team, but the chances of ever being what they were the last 20 years depends on if we get something even close to Brady. There have been a ton of great QB's walk through this league and none have come close to that, so I am not holding my breath or even expecting it. We will never see that again.

Oh yeah, Brady was masterful that game with 199 yards. The saints scored 20 points. That's not exactly going up and down the field at will.

That defense sure didn't help at all against green Bay, when Brady took amazing care of the ball by throwing three interceptions.

Then that defense kept one of the most prolific passers the league had ever seen out of the endzone. That game was pitch and catch for Brady. He'll never have an easier SB again

He does have some Brady like qualities, especially his apparent competitiveness and FB IQ. Brady has the stronger arm for 20-30 yd ropes, though Mac's deep ball looks good.

Brady's arm wasn't always that strong, he's worked on that aspect of his game a lot. He didn't have that same laser rocket arm when he came into the league. Mac looks to have better deep ball accuracy, but only game time will tell. So I think there's a good chance Mac can be our guy with all his intangibles

Brady's deep ball is miraculously accurate when he actually has guys that can get open deep which was few and far between on the pats. So if that is the case with Mac, that accuracy will not be there either. Brady lead the league in deep balls completed, most big time throws last year at 43. I dont care who you are, if you have receivers that cannot get open deep, you are not going to be a deep ball thrower. There are video's of Brady throwing 50 yard bombs on a dime to Troy Brown. His arm is fine and always has been. Brady tends to do what the rest of the team is capable of doing. If they are quick, then he can do the short passing, if they are good deep, then he can hit them.

Tom Brady left the Patriots because he could get more money and he thought another team was a better fit for him. No matter how much you wish he loved New England, and loved the fact you rooted for him, he left for more money and a chance to get more fame. Being a Tom Brady fan doesn't change that, and stating the truth doesn't make me bitter, simply honest. Professional football is a business and Tom went to a place that was a better fit for him. The Patriots had an offer on the table for him, and he took another one he liked better.

You being butt hurt that I stated that doesn't change it, grow up and move on. He is no longer a member of the Patriots. This is a Patriots fan site, not a Tom Brady fan site. I rooted for him to beat the Chiefs, glad he did. Doesn't change the fact that he decided money and fame were more important than retiring a Patriot.
Give me a break. Pats offered 1 yr $23m. He left for 2 yrs $50m guaranteed. The $2m per year wasn’t the issue. He wanted longer than a 1 yr commitment. He was still dirt cheap at $25m per year compared to other QBs. He’s not even top 10 I believe. BB just wanted to stamp his authority and secure his legacy. And now he has egg on his face and even diehard Patriots fans like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are calling him out for blowing it and rooting for Brady to continue succeeding. And you can see it in the thin skin this forum has concerning the topic. Anything pro-Brady or anti-BB gets banned or removed immediately. Even KGB does a poorer propaganda job compared to this forum’s mods. BB blew it. He still has the goodwill so a 7-9 season he could brush off. Another losing season and the heat will be on. “What have you done for me lately?”

Brady played the redskins in the first playoff game. At least know what games were played before commenting. He had 381 yards passing. That is going up and down the field. The saints had a top defense, brady did better than 90 percent of QB's. Did you watch the first half of the GB game? Did you watch the two balls that bounced off the receivers hand in the second half? This is not fantasy football, its reality football, stop looking at box scores to determine a game and how someone does. Brady played 2 of the top best pass defenses in the NFL. They were also both top 5 in opposing QB rating. In those 2 games he had 580 yards, 4 td's 0 ints. He had a 125 QB rating in the superbowl. He had a QBR of 81, 76, 75, and 84 In the 4 playoff games, which was better than any other QB in the playoffs. You said without the Bucs defense they would have a first round playoff exit....they played the skins, and the defense for the bucs was awful....like I said.

I think it was just a divorce type of situation. We got twenty great fan years out of it. I'm not bitter or blame either of them.
I'm not bitter either. I can admit, I miss number 12 under center. However, eventually every good story has an ending. I got to witness so many afccgs, superbowl appearances, superbowl victories and years of a team that put winning before everything else. Has BB made mistakes? Sure. However.. how could I complain with so much success I got to watch. I never had to watch my team go through droughts and never needed to worry about a losing season. I honestly didn't do anything to deserve such an amazing run. I'm honored I was apart of it and if we don't win another sb all decade or even next, it's what it is. I cant be entitled.

In those two games with low passing yardages, he did not even have to throw the ball. That is what I am looking for from the 2021 Patriots personnel. Just move the chains on the ground and play top 5 D.

And the COVID excuse is valid, IMO. So many people I know have talked about "brain fog" being a real thing. I am no doctor, but it was plainly clear to me watching him on TV...he should have not been out there.

Also, just yesterday...I was watching the Broncos game on DVR...and the team did Cam no favors: The OL didn't block well on two sacks, Asiasi dropped a big reception, and Harry slipped on the final pass attempt to end the game....

That was the story last year, "Close, but no cigar". And I think we are a significantly better team going into 2021.

Agree on what you said about covid fog. I had a colleague who, post-covid, in virtual meetings would not make verbal sense or flat out mispronounce words for several weeks. It does something to the brain in some people.

Forgot they played the skins. Either way, Brady had a super team around him. The Bucs had the 6th best defense in the league last year. But sure, Brady had an atrocious team around him and carried the defense. He also carried his receivers that were already 1000+ yard guys. Jesus, the dude walked into a 2007 patriots like team. He has a better offense around him than the Mahommes. He should have won the superbowl with that line up

So you're saying that Brady the passer in year one is the same Brady in year 10 where his throwing is not any better than when he started

Also the collective narcissism/entitlement is ridiculous. I remember radio ppl saying “oh I would’ve just gotten hoyer!!” As if cam for one million dollars wasn’t an absolute steal.
A steal is 8 passing TD's and 2600 yards?
