July 20, 2018:
Offensive tackle
Andrew Jelks retires from the NFL without having played a single down. The Pats signed Jelks as an undrafted rookie in 2017 despite his having missed the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons at Vanderbilt due to preseason injuries. The Patriots placed Jelks on the reserve/non-football injury list on September 2, 2017 due to a torn ACL suffered during pre-season workouts his senior year at Vanderbilt; he remained on the NFI last for the entire year. (Note: NFI has no minimum salary like IR does.) Rookies were scheduled to report to training camp on July 22 in 2018, so I am speculating that Jelks failed his physical, leading to the retirement.
Less than a week before training camp, it seems that we won't get a chance to see the potential of the team's mystery man

Chase Farris is waived with a non-football injury designation. The Pats had signed the guard from Ohio State to their practice squad on October 5, 2016. While preparing for training camp on his own time he tore his Achilles tendon and would have missed the 2017 season regardless. Farris never re-signed with another NFL team, though he did play in the short-lived Alliance of American Football in 2019. He had graduated from Ohio State with a bachelor's in Consumer and Family Financial Services, and now works as a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual in Columbus Ohio.

The Patriots sign free agent
Nate Byham. A sixth round pick by San Francisco, the tight end from Pitt was considered to be one of the best blocking tight ends of the 2010 draft. Byham played in a handful of games for the Niners and Bucs from 2010 to 2013; Foxborough was his last NFL stop when the Pats released him five days later.
Nate Byham enters his ninth season at UAlbany in 2022 after competing for four seasons as an NFL tight end. He currently is the team’s Associate Head Coach/Co-Offensive

Myra Kraft, the wife of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and a hard-working philanthropist dedicated to numerous causes, died Wednesday morning after a battle with cancer, the team said in a statement. She was 68.

Bret Lockett is re-signed as an exclusive rights free agent. The backup safety and special teamer played in ten games for the Pats that season before landing on IR with a groin injury. More injuries were the hallmark of his stay in New England: he was placed on IR at the end of camp in 2011 with a chest injury, and again in 2012 due to a groin injury. According to his social media the self promoter is in SoCal now, working as a corporate trainer and business consultant helping entrepreneurs executives find more revenue paths.

Jeff Roehl, an offensive tackle originally signed as an undrafted rookie in 2003 by the Giants. Roehl was a victim of final roster cuts in 2005 after spending the entire offseason with the Pats, and had been allocated to NFL Europe earlier in 2006. After spending a couple years playing indoor football he became a music producer and DJ.

Guy Morriss; he played in 59 games for the Pats at the end of his NFL career from 1984 to 1987. After that he served as the team's offensive line coach in 1988-89. Morriss played in 217 NFL games from 1973 to 1987, the first eleven coming as the starting center for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The former second-round pick in 1973 stayed 11 seasons in Philly, wearing the No. 50 for 10 of those, and was our second-ranked player at No. 62 behind Jason Kelce

Larry Garron retires after nine seasons with the Patriots. Garron was a four-time American Football League All-Star; he averaged 5.6 yards per carry in 1961 and 5.9 the following season. An original Patriot, he is a member of the Pats All-Decade Team of the 1960s.

A couple of announcer's nightmares (and torture for the kid - as well as their teacher - growing up):
John Prchlik, born July 20, 1925.
John went to Yale and was drafted by the Boston Yanks in 1947. He won two NFL championships as a defensive tackle for the Bobby Layne era Detroit Lions over the Cleveland Browns in the early fifties.
Dave 'Buster' Hathcock, 78 (born July 20, 1943).
The defensive back won a championship with Green Bay in a game that would later become known as Super Bowl I.
