Reiss: Pats should Thank Niners for Passing on Mac

Just average. QB's with numbers like that never make it in the NFL. Who was this bum anyway ?
In year two no less… the Brady-stans didn’t start watching football until 2007 so they have no frame of reference.

That was incredibly weird. A lot of us had a good chuckle.

Who is us? So you’re admitting you’re more than one person? You see…I knew it all along.

(Kidding)

Says the guy who just claimed Andrew Luck was the best prospect to come out of college prior to Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence will never reach his potential either... even if he's one of these magical unicorn "franchise caliber QB's."
Jeff George, Ryan Leaf, Rick Mirer, etc, etc, etc. The field is littered with cant-miss QBs, including "generational talent" (which Jeff George was supposed to be) that had all the "tools" but couldn't craft much winning for myriad reasons from external to internal (or both).

Luck’s career ended prematurely and without Super Bowl victory because GM Ryan Grigson didn’t think Andrew needed an offensive line in front of him. By the time they realized he couldn’t do it alone and started drafting O-Linemen, Luck’s body was shot, this after traveling to Oslo to shoot stem cells in his dead shoulder.

QB’s fail for a myriad of reasons, Luck didn’t fail, he was a wild success who took a 2-14 team to 11-5 in his rookie season. His set the rookie passing yards record and made 4 Pro Bowls. No QB can win rings without a good team around him. That’s fanboy nonsense.

It was worded strangely, but I believe he meant Andrew Luck was the last "sure thing" to come out of college. Can you name a more consensus top pick (who was known to be the top pick even going into his last collegiate season) between Andrew Luck and Trevor Lawrence?

Career Sack %

Tom Brady - 4.7% (Protected by an iron wall)
Andrew Luck - 5.0% (Thrown to the wolves)

Luck took 174 career sacks and racked up 332 rushing attempts. It was obvious from year one he played recklessly. The Colts didn’t do a fantastic job with the o-line, but they didn’t fall into some outlier category when it comes to sacks and pressures.

Was this the line’s fault? The play where his shoulder got blown up, lacerated kidney, etc? Trying to cut past defenders like a running back?

This one? On the pass protection?

Probably a late hit here….but who is responsible for putting himself in danger?

This was a widely accepted understanding about Luck…evidenced by this article in 2016 (and others like it.) The damage was mostly done by that point, as he had sustained major injuries due to his stubbornness. After re-aggravating the injuries a few times, the narrative totally changed to ThE cOlTs DiDnT pToTeCt HiM! and the typical bozos who media driven narratives - like yourself - jumped on board. When Luck retired, the revisionist history took an emotional surge to new levels.

There is a greater chance of a whole new Coaching regime in New England as opposed to continued excellence.
I am a realist we could be looking at insert offensive assistant here.
The Joe Brady lead Patriots.
Hey you guys want Brady right?

Yep, they are going to get rid of the greatest coach/GM in NFL history for the new kid on the block. Your “ hot takes “ are getting dumber by the minute.

I don't think I ever said otherwise.

Crowning a "generational talent" before taking a snap is a fool's game for the drafted examples I mentioned. Talent is only one part of any equation; additionally, as you stated - a team to capitalize said talent is another. Maturity. Life Decisions. Injury. Personality. Desire. There are a hundred more things that can derail as much as maximize "generational talent" that are totally unrelated and in many ways uncontrollable.

How about these numbers? ;)

Football was a bit different back then. Guys lead the league in TD's with 28...which was brady in his second year as a starter. He played 14 games in his first year as a starter as well. So trying to use that as a reason is not a good comparison. I mean why not just use Elways first season, take a lot at that amazing feat. Gootball is different now with passing

Blasphemy! Andrew Luck is a highly decorated civil war veteran. May his honor and dignity be preserved unto time's end.

Well you just showed that you didnt start watching football until recent, because Passing was a lot different in 2001 than it is now as far as numbers go. Brady lead the league in Td's in 2002 with 28, today that would be half a season for some.

Some guys can take the NFL, some cannot. A couple years before he retired he had the best line in football and he still left. It does not mean as much to some guys as it does others and some guys can take the hits for a long time and some cannot.

There is no sure thing coming out of college.

Andrew Luck was a "generational" prospect (Elway, Peyton, Luck, Lawrence). He was living up to it, but getting his ass kicked in the process, and he didn't survive long enough, as a result.

People ignore a lot when they denigrate his game.

Year one: 11-5, WC loss (to SB champion Ravens)
Year two: 11-5, WC win, DR loss (to Brady)
Year three: 11-5, WC win, DR win, AFCCG loss (to Brady)
Year four: Injury riddled season cut short
Year five: Injury riddled season cut short
Year six: Lost season due to injury
Year seven: 10-6, WC win, DR loss (To Mahomes)

I think it's fair to point out that he didn't get to the point of discretion sometimes being the better part of valor soon enough, and I think it's fair to say that he had started to show a little bit of the David Carr shellshock problem by the end. Outside out that, he was doing just fine.
