Was Mac Jones the most “pundit projected” Patriots pick under BB?

All the pundits and mock drafts had the Patriots picking Jones, which always meant, as an absolute certainty, the Patriots would not pick Jones. I can’t remember a pick where the Patriots went exactly with the conventional wisdom, consensus opinion. Maybe Jerod Mayo.

What other examples are there of Belichick being in alignment with the mock drafts?

When we were on the clock, it was the obvious move.

MIN was on the clock. One can only think that Belichick thought that NO ONE was interested in trading up for Jones. Otherwise, we would have flipped a 4th to MIN to make sure that we got Jones. MIN could that have made essentially the same trade with the jets.

Maybe MIN convinced the jets that we were picking the OT, arguably the last consensus stud on the board.

The Jets feared the Patriots taking Vera Tucker and so they moved up. Inadvertently they blocked the Saints from Leap-frogging the Patriots for Mac Jones. Thanks for blundering again, Jets! Hopefully Mac Jones makes them regret that move for a LONG time to come! LOL

Mac Jones always looked like a great fit for the Patriots. The problem was that he was an even better fit for San Francisco West Coast Offense and they had moved all the way up to 3 to take him, or so we thought. Looks like a lot of people were unprepared for Mac Jones to fall. But it was meant to be and BB showed no hesitation in pulling the trigger once Mac Jones slipped all the way down to 15.

What I want to know is, let's say Washington calls Minnesota to offer a trade up. With Minnesota knowing we likely want Jones, would they then call us to see if we would better Washingtons offer? Or do they just deal the pick then and there.

If I remember correctly the only local pundit that suggested the drafting of Mayo was Michael Holley, most of the rest seemed surprised.

I amazed it played out the way it did. I wouldn’t have faulted BB for trading up to take him...you go all in if you think he is the guy.
It makes me wonder if we were just taking the “best player available” and obviously if a QB fell to us, even better.

Mankins was my binky.....only one that ever got picked. Connor Barwin should have been another one

I think it was Mayo - one of the few top 10 picks we had. I recall the buzz for Vernon Gholston that the Jets ended up selecting - seems like BB pulled one over on Mangenious there?

Wow that jogged a memory. A ton of people had the Pats picking him in the first. Instead they nabbed him in the second. Hailed as a steal by pundits all over.

Some mocks did have Wilfork falling to the Pats. Or them trading up for him. It was just too easy for people to connect the dots. Ted Washington had recently left (retired?) and it was no secret Bill loved and needed some big fatty in the middle of his 3-4 defense.

MINN just isn't that bright. It would be difficult to predict.

1) Why didn't they call us and extract a 4th or 5th? It was free money unless Belichick was absolutely sure that no one would trade up for Jones. All the studs were gone. MINN might have done better with 2 trades back.

2) If MINN extracted a pick from us, they still could have gotten a deal from someone (including the jets) who want to draft the OT. After all, MINN wanted a tackle and could represent that they were considering drafting one at 15.

3) Given that they were willing trading the pick, i presume that they had talked to WASH and NO.
