Round 4 - Pick 14

Get practice squad high potential late bloomer cb, safety, ol and a speedy wr.

Long shot is probably too strong for the 4th round pick, I agree. But this is a funny year, and a historical precedent is probably not too accurate either. We picked a guy in the late 3rd who many projected as a mid to late 2nd. I don't think that is too common in a normal year. And everyone says this draft is very shallow with little top end talent after the 4th, so we will see. It is fun to have a few binkies, but open spots on the Pats' roster are quite limited this year, probably on purpose.
I think a better way to put it is we should be drafting based upon the positions/roles where this caliber player has a reasonable path to a spot which are not all positions/roles.

I'm shocked Jabril Cox is available.

Also, Cade Johnson spent the senior bowl making the top CB's fall on their asses, dude is shifty as hell
Cox had shoulder surgery and there are questions that it went well.

Our 4th rounder has always made the 53. I see now reason for Belichick not to continue. Belichick will plan that when he picks. An OL will have little problem,
OL
Brown
Wynn
Andrews
Mason
onwenu
Karras.

competition for rookie for remaining 3 spots

herron
Cajuste
Cunningham
Martin

A 4th round OL would make the team, a 5,6,7 would have a reasonable chance too.
Given the ps slots I expect we will add 3-4 OL to bring to camp in remaining picks and UDFAs

I think Herron is sticking around.

Cajuste is a wild card - they really liked him a lot, but two years off is an eternity, and now he begins his career in his third year.

I think Herron is too, but if you draft an OT in round 4 and cajuste is healthy and up to his projection Herron is at risk. He was forced into action and didn’t pee his pants but with a healthy Cajuste and a 4th round caliber OT he never would have seen the field last year.

Having just done a quick draft 53 man roster, we really don't have many available spots for rookies. I know that Bill said yesterday that he doesn't go into drafts identifying the positions he needs to take players, but it really seems like there are only semi-open spots on the o-line, outside corner and possibly a depth running back or receiver.

I've been plenty wrong before but would therefore expect a couple of depth lineman similar to last year and a developmental corner, and either a running back or receiver - ideally with special teams value. I wouldn't completely rule out another shot at a kicker either.

I reckon we trade our picks and end up with less than 5 players today, possibly as few as 3.

Bill MUST, M-U-S-T, keep ALL of his day 3 picks today - he already Foolishly threw away TWO of them yesterday - and use ALL of them now EXCLUSIVELY at WR, OT & CB...No...Other...Positions...

That would be Completely ****ing Stupid.

I agree on the historical precedent and there is room for an OL or WR or CB. But this year is unlike any other, so we should not have any expectations. Hopefully they believe in Cajuste in Y3.

Like OL, CB and WR? Thanks for the 53 man roster thread.

Didn’t he get the best DT in the draft by trading those picks? Chill. He’s probably drafting an OL and a CB.

I wonder if there are any PUP/IR type players who have dropped and could sit for a year? That would be ideal. Wonder if Dylan Moses might fall into that category

Trade down a bit with the 4th pick and trade way up with the 5th pick. You can still get a couple of PTP's.
