Biggest Losers and Winners on Day 1?

Raiders had the biggest reach I think.
Cousin, It's all a matter of opinion. I thought Leatherwood was a second rounder but there were somethings in Darisaws game that were eye opening as in "not a good finisher". In some evaluations, Leatherwood was rated a top five Tackle in this Draft. You could have said Tevin Jenkins but you can't deny the success of the Bama O line. So if you say he was a few picks high, it depends on what the Raiders needed. Not the sexiest pick but it was alright. That Team was so good that Leatherwood was an afterthought.
Thought the Saints might have reached more.

More opinions: It amazes me that people slam the Pats for Jones. I think you have more issues with Fields as an NFL QB to correct.
Heard an amazing piece of information on BB of what he wants in a QB from Daniel Jeremiah back in 1991. Jones checks all BB requires. No where did it say the QB must be able to run around for 3.5 seconds and escape pressure to be a runner. We have pigeon- holed all QB into that today.
But it's not true.Starting QB's that are pocket guys first are still very good QBs like Stafford, Ryan, Justin Herbert, Big Ben, to a lesser extent Darnold, who is still young and I am sure the Colts don't want Wentz running around. Fact is everyone of these runners gets hurt or take a beating like Russell and look how the Chiefs were neutralized in the Super Bowl because Mahomes was so beat up he could not run.

We have one of the most proficient runners ever in the NFL at QB. He scored 12 TD's rushing. Where did that bring us.

Mac Jones in not a bad athlete; 4.68 is not slow. It was not his game at Bama.

Height: 6-2 5/8 Weight: 217 40-yard dash: 4.72, 4.68 Vertical jump: 32 inches Broad jump: 9 feet, 8 inches Shuttle: 4.39 3-cone: 7.04
The much more mobile rated QB Trevor Lawrence had a 40 time of 4.78. The Jags did not pick him to run. FYI Stidham ran a 4.81

Alright wait for it....wait for it. What was Josh Allen's 40 time? ........4.76 What was Justin Herbert's 40 time ? 4.69.......How about Mahomes 40 time? 4.8. Tua? 4.9...............Apears to me we have the faster QB that any of those guys

How about Watson? 4.66...Cam 4.59. For those who wanted the ever mobile Jimmie G, his time was 4.97

Bill would have Drafted Jones because of his 3 cone time alone.....ha!

Lol when did brady run a 4.83? One thing about brady he has worked on his mobility throughout his career and it has gotten better.

Brady’s sprint is slow, but he has great footwork in the pocket. He’s extremely mobile in that way which is why Ron Jaworski used to constantly say Brady was the most mobile QB in the league (back when ESPN actually focused on sports.). I don’t know if Mac has similar traits.

It seems that a lot (but not all) of the teams that traded up were losers, but the biggest loser by far has to be San Francisco.

Fred gonna Fred

I
I think he does. I take it you don’t like the selection. Well you gonna have to give it a chance and hope it turns out yet.

NFL's grades for round 1. Like 31 teams basically got an 'A'. Everybody is a winner (except for the Texans)

(You don't need to read the article)

Re Bengals....with my basic knowledge even I would have chosen better protection over re-uniting college QB and WR. Have to go and look at the stats to see the Bengals O/Line ratings
Disagree on this, Chase is going to be great player and there are still some really good OL on the board.

I'm not telling you he does. I will say, though, for the sake of information, that there was an analyst talking about this, and he was using the "I'm not saying he's Brady, but..." to talk about how well Jones feels pressure and moves away from it in the pocket.

I don’t dislike the selection. He would not have been my choice of the top 5 QB’s, but I’m no prospect analyst. I’m glad we took a QB in the first round. His record breaking completion percentage excites me. I’m all onboard.

Maybe I'm being petty but I feel like the Bears lose not for drafting Fields but for how much they gave up for him. I wanted the Pats to trade up but if it took next year's first that would've been too much

They moved up 9 spots with franchise QBs available, I think the price was all right, actually great value

Yeah and he worked on his body too. Obsessively. Brady was always striving to improve himself, like all the great ones (except Lawrence Taylor). Will Mac do the same? You have to believe that BB did his homework and got the inside scoop on Mac.

Right now I think that the Patriots got themselves a superb QB. What a way to start the draft! I think that Mac is a top-3 QB....of course time will tell. And who knows about Lance, but I have my doubts about his accuracy.

LT was powered by cocaine he didn’t need to do anything else.

Don’t know how the Bucs reach. Tryon would have been a likely first rounder had he play. He reminds me of a more athletic chandler jones.
Yeah but some GM's did say something like if it's really close between two prospects they will choose who played last year. I haven't seen him in the first often but there was a run at DE there so I understand that

I agree on Chase 100% it was more a question on if he was the correct pick before a tackle to protect Burrow. However, the NFL site is projecting the Bengals to take Tevin Jenkins early in Round 2

The nice thing about Mac Jones that people don't talk about is his throwing mechanics. It's already, compact, consistent, and mechanically sound. More Mac Jones throwing breakdown.

When you look at Qbs like Fields and Lance they are going to need their mechanics fixed. Fields is a long strider, tries to throw the football like a baseball off the mound. This makes his throw take longer because he is striding too much. Lance has a hitch in his throw, it's going to need to be fixed similarly to how Wentz needed his throwing hitch fixed.

Yes I get that Fields and Lance are considered better athletes as far as running with the football. But the fact that running QBs is the current fad doesn't mean that they win any more than pocket passers. Brady, pocket QB, defeated Mahomes, throw on the run QB, in the Superbowl because Tampa Bay knew exactly how to contain and make Mahomes feel uncomfortable. He didn't throw for a single TD.

Ok so Brady is the GOAT of pocket passers. It doesn't mean that pocket passers don't succeed in the modern NFL. Let's look at another pocket passer, Big Ben, he doesn't move around much. But oh he has a rocket arm. That makes him different because Mac Jones doesn't have a rocket arm. Can we think of any pocket passers who didn't rely on a big arm but accuracy instead? Oh yeah how about that Kurt Warner guy? He won a Super Bowl and stuff and actually ran one of the most potent offenses of all time, the Greatest Show on Turf.

A lot of lofty comparisons here. A more down to earth comparison would be that Mac Jones in terms of processing IQ and intangibles has a lot of similarities to Phillip Rivers, coming out except he's not saddled with a funky throwing motion. Rivers arm was questioned but what he accomplished throughout his career and 8 pro bowls with the Chargers is not questioned. Now what if you took the next Phillip Rivers and gave him the support of coaching like BB and McDaniels and a winning culture and program like the Patriots have. What would he have done in New England?

It's a really exciting thing to have a brand new Quarterback that BB and the front office clearly rated as worthy of a 1st round selection. Now let's see what they can do with him. Belichick literally lucked into Brady thanks to the QB coach's recommendation. RIP Coach Rehbein.

With Mac Jones though, BB went to see the kid's pro day himself. He talked extensively with Nick Saban. He talked to Matt Patricia, his scouts, Mcdaniels the whole staff. Because BB seemed way more invested in the drafting/scouting process this year, Mac Jones is going to become his new pet project. Let's see if, with Mac Jones, BB can find the Steve Young to Brady's Montana. If BB can squeeze 2-3 Superbowl wins out of Mac Jones, the draft pick will have been well worth it, and he just superglues the GOAT coach moniker. As a Patriots fan, I can only wish success for our latest addition. For better or for worse, Mac Jones will soon become the face of the franchise.

Think about this the AFCE is soon going to be a story, a battle, a race between 4 young Quarterbacks: Mac Jones, Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa, and Zach Wilson, all young 1st round QBs. That's pretty exciting stuff!! :)

Brian Flores is very,, very good and Dolphins management seems to be on point so far. The Bills are the team to beat right now but we're gonna have a dogfight on our hands to get to second place.
Reports seem to indicate that Flores has lost the team though.

Yup. I think that Mac's topless photo did it! As much as we enjoy snorking and chortling about his Stay Puff body, it may have alowed him to drop to the Patriots. And what was his 40 time? 6.9 or something Brady-esque?
No. Actually, it was 4.78. Almost all his combine number were actually better than Mahomes.

We don't need to find justifications or good examples to draft a pure pocket passer QB, they are still the better option, I want no part with QBs running around like crazy, unless is a total package, proven player like Russel Wilson

Otherwise stay on the damn pocket and pass the ball or get rid of it.

Similar time as Mahomes

How many times has Belichick "lost the team?"

The Dolphins were one stroke of luck away from being in the playoffs, if the players revolt against him they're idiots.

I seen a draft grade last night that gave us a B grade & SF got an A+

How is that possible?
The 49ers traded 3 first round picks & a 3rd for a guy who played 1 game last year and
He is a talented prospect.

We did not move up & got the ideal QB, for our system who is much more NFL ready.

The 49ers decision was between Lance & Jones.

If the 49ers did not trade up, they could have had Jones, & kept their 3rd & their first fo 2022 & 2023.
