Spot on. Exactly my take too. He is not a QB that will elevate but if he has some talent around him, he can get the job done.
Exactly.

I like Jones but am pretty bummed that the Brady offense will continue. I was really hoping we would take a more dynamic QB so we could run a more dynamic offense to compete with the Bills and Chiefs but it appears this is our offense for as long as Bill is here.

To be honest, I prefer having an offense that can control the time of possession and keep those explosive offenses on the bench AND our defense fresh. I think it is the receipe to beat those teams. We have the good defense in place, we have great special teams and we revamped the offense to be able to do what it should be doing.

Of course, we need the homerun potential and Mac Jones is not Matt Cassel, he can throw the deep ball.

I’m getting a Carson Palmer vibe with Mac

I don’t watch college sports or rarely but Mac Jones does have talent. If you surround him with good players, I see no reasons why he can’t lead you to a super bowl and even win it

The offense we’ve ran for years when it has a good trigger man who makes correct decisions and makes accurate passes has been consistently one the best in football. May not be the flashiest but it’s proven to be effective.

No one thought Brady would turnout to be a great QB. He was drafted in the 6th round. You never know.

He doesn’t need to be Brady, just win games, lead the team to the playoffs and win a couple of championships if possible. That’s all

people are comparing him to andy dalton, which scares me

Those people are crazy. Mac Jones is a lot more like Kirk Cousins with a possible upside of a Matt Ryan, Brees, or Thomas Brady.

Draft pick

Analysis: Sometimes picks just make themselves. The Patriots didn’t have to make a move for a young passer, who many analysts projected would be a perfect fit in an offense that excelled for many years with a similarly pocket-bound, but accurate and quick decision-maker. Things couldn’t have played out better for Bill Belichick.

Jones’ average athleticism cost him some draft position, but if his receivers are in the right spots, he will deliver the ball effectively and let them be the playmakers.

Really? And you know THIS how?? Can you see the future and tell that Jones will never elevate others? FFS.. Did you ever stop to think that Jones made the plays in Alabama? Not just the players he had around him? This was pointed out by at least two DIFFERENT Scouts..

I like to think he will be really good in the right system and coaching, which the Patriots have. Expecting his career to be somewhere between Big Ben and Kirk Cousins.

Nobody can possibly hate the fact the Pats paid absolutely nothing to pick him up. The fact they made the pick that quickly tells me there is a lot of truth to the "we wanted him all along" idea that was put out there by the team.

Well that's a home run then if this kid becomes at least Kirk Cousins who is a 30TD/10int QB.

The Brady offense did beat the Chiefs last year in the Super Bowl. Granted Mahomes was injured and missing his tackles, but it was still a decisive win.

Why? Dalton is a good quarterback who had a fine career in Cincinnati. He's the last guy that brought the Bengals any relevance whatsoever so I'd say his legacy as a very good quarterback is secure, even if you may disagree whether he's an elite one.

And we'll probably protect Jones better than the Bengals protected Dalton, so there's that too.

Why does your gut tell you that? From what I've seen he's accurate, able to read defenses well at the collegiate level and has vision on the field, used his eyes and pump fakes to create space for his receivers. I think he's a stud
He is everything you say he is.

I just don't see the WOW-factor with him on film- yet.

Dynamism isn't a panacea. It's more important to do what you do well than it is to do all the things.

Cam Newton is dynamic, but his injury-diminished talent gave us our first losing season.

I'm happy to have a QB who plays a style our staff knows how to manage for. And I'm also glad we have Cam to protect Jones from getting thrown into the fire off the bat, and an offense that can play grindy football and take pressure off the QB with a good ground game, because both things will be important parts of Jones' education.
