Niners down to 2 choices Rap Sheet

I call B.S. on this report.

Why would the Niners leak something like that to Rapp? Are they trying to see which way the wind is blowing in terms of fan opinions? I thought Shanny and Lynch didn't care about what anyone thought?

One time I was in this keeper fantasy league where the first 7 picks were decided 3 weeks before the draft....everyone was tired of waiting for the draft and just started declaring their guys.... I wish the Jaguars, Jets, and Niners would just come out and say it....

I just can't see the 9ers keeping Garoppolo. If they keep him, they risk a situation where he goes out there and plays very well. Imagine he has another 2019 caliber season. Then what do you do??

If they draft Lance, they are going to need Garopollo or another starting quality QB. But if Garopollo has another 2019 season (which, let's face it wasn't like he played like an All Pro), they will be able to get more in trade for Jimmy G. When you spend this much draft capital on a QB like they are this year, you go with him no matter what.

I thought SF was locked in on Jones, as of last week...now it's maybe? These azzoles don't know what the eff they're talking about

I would laugh my ass off if they drafted Fields.

There is only a few people in the 49er organization that knows who they are going to draft. Everyone else has been spewing BS. If they draft Fields it's because they moved up to get him.

I would love to see a source on that! I mean, the logic is unassailable, but I'm still curious who would be vocally questioning that.

Wasn't Sonny Jurgensen red-headed? He wasn't bad...and he liked to party...and I like to party too, so...

They want to cover all the bases so they can claim they were right when the pick is made.

It is baffling that a team would spend that draft capital to trade up and not targeting a specific player.
Here’s the way I heard it explained. The Niners absolutely made the trade for Jones. Now that they’re at 3 they are doing their due diligence and doing a deep dive on Fields and Lance. I can’t really fault them for that. At the end of the day they’ll take Mac

If they pick either Jones or Fields, then the chances they trade Grop before the deadline at the latest would certainly increase...

Lance however might have to sit the Entire season before he's ready for NFL snaps.

Why do that without knowing which QB is going to be taken?
You mean that for Shanahan or Garoppolo? I have no idea what Shanahan's game is here - he's flailing wildly, and unless he's sure that he's getting the guy he wants under center sooner than later, he's taking a blowtorch to a necessary bridge.

or maybe he's doing it to coax Garoppolo to accept a trade to a team he might not have, or to a restructure/pay cut to make a trade more likely.

I mean, I don't know, but so openly dissing the guy who's supposed to be starting for you this year seems a helluva way to keep a team in sync.

The league used to allow that, but then correctly felt that the drama of the commish announcing the first-round picks would be eliminated...Reporters also used to name the picks throughout the first round before they were officially announced, and the league put a stop to that too.

No, I mean JAG. The top QB prospects are at different stages of readiness. Shanahan's offense calls for a QB who can stay on script, do a few specific things, and not try to take too much onto himself. A QB like, for example, Lance, may be up to a year or two away from that. So, if you're a decent enough QB (in this case, JAG), you'll have some time to shine with a team that's got a lot of talent. Then, even if you move on after this season, or next, you'll have put some good stuff on tape, and had a chance to have being healthy as something teams remember about your last run with the team.

And just because you have no idea what the 49ers are doing, you make the assumption that Shanahan is flailing, which is dubious, at best. Why?

If Lance and Fields are at 4 or lower I wonder which one if any Patriots would target.
Let's see
Fields to start some in October
Lance to start the 2024 season

With Lance available, MAYBE Jimmy would be there are a 2 year QB.

Mac Jones is a perfect fit for the Shannahan offensive system. That's why I believe he will be the pick for the 49ers. He's more polished, accurate, has no mechanical issues, ready to plug in. Jones is the guy you have hold the clipboard for 12 months, and you feel confident he can start as soon as next season. Also if JG goes down with injury in the middle of the season, do you trust Jones more or a much more raw and untested Trey Lance? I believe 49ers are having conversations about both but ultimately they will settle on the more NFL ready, lower risk prospect in Mac Jones at #3.

I guess since they will have the option of taking anyone in the draft other than Lawrence or Wilson, it doesn't hurt to kick the tires of all the top players available. But they gave up a boat load to move up. If they are having second thoughts about taking Jones (assuming that is who they traded up for) and taking either Fields or Lance, you gotta question their decision making abilities. To make that type of commitment to a player, other players should have to crap golden eggs to make them have second thoughts about that commitment.
