Belichick is arguably the most rational actor involved in the draft, and Lord knows even he makes decisions that have most of us scratching our heads.
Man. The hate for fields is growing by the day. What did this kid do wrong? Had an outstanding career in college. Played well in the biggest games. Showed an arm, showed athleticism, let’s not forget about his toughness. Oh, and he’s apparently really ****ing smart too! Now this guy is dropping? Silly season is in full effect.
Thanks for the reply, but Justin Fields is considered one of the most accurate QB’s in this draft. He’s a 69-70% passer who didn’t make his money off of screen passes.Accuracy is more important than arm, athleticism, toughness, intelligence and many people feel as though Field's didn't show it consistently enough. Given Jeff George not doing that well and Joe Montana winning 4 Super Bowls, teams learned not to put too much into arm strength and within the next 10-20 years, I believe they will relearn that athleticism/mobility is overrated at the quarterback position if the goal is to win Super Bowls. When he decides to run, Tom Brady is as slow as molasses and he has won 7 Super Bowls and played in 10. The 3 Super Bowls he lost, he lost to quarterbacks nearly as slow as him.
So, Fields did a lot right but other players appear to be better prospects. It isn't like he is going to drop to even the 2nd half of the first round.
Fields is being properly scrutinized. Jones has been properly scrutinized and if anything his supposed lack of mobility has been ridiculously overblown. Jones is Usain Bolt in comparison to Brady coming out of college. Instead teams with their investigators/background checkers should be making sure Jones isn't an alcoholic given his DUI and continue to test his accuracy/arm strength. Jones is clearly at least very accurate but the question is whether he is truly elite with his accuracy or just very good surrounded by a stellar supporting case.
Fields will still be a top 10ish pick. If Fields could run like a young Cam Newton his accuracy concerns would not be as big of an issue since Newton genuinely changed how defenses had to defend his team but he isn't going to be Michael Vick/Lamar Jackson/Cam Newton running the ball. Fields will be fortunate to be the next tier down so like most NFL quarterbacks his accuracy is going to make or break him. Maybe the fact that he has a mild form of epilepsy even if it is well controlled is hurting him on the margin as well. Teams will never say that but in close calls, it could hurt him.
Even Trevor Lawrence has accuracy concerns since he misses a few too many relatively easy throws but just less of them than Fields.
Did you see what he did versus Clemson? Trevor Lawrence had a few stinkers too. His performance in an ass whooping of VT wasn’t too great. Zach Wilson had a mediocre effort and wasn’t a 1st rd prospect till this year. What has Lance done to be in the conversation? I could understand if the hate for Fields brought up the same complaints of the other guys, but it doesn’t. That’s all. Everyone just talks about the kid like he’s going to be the biggest bust in the draft. He may end up being, but the odds of him succeeding are a lot better than Wilson and Lance.I watched his last three games this year and he had 1 good one. Versus Northwestern 12/27 114 yds 0 TD, 2 int and versus Alabama 17/33 194 yds 1 TD 0 int......
The lack of accuracy is not true either. The above is all rational and reasonable, it's the other stuff that doesn't sit well
1. He has a poor work ethic.. which now appears completely untrue
2. poor when not throwing to his first read.. which apparently according to stats isn't actually true.
I did see it and that was the 1 game out of 3 that was very good. I was responding ot the comment that he was at his best in big games and the last 3 of the season were the biggest and he was NOT at his best in the big game,.. versus Clemson yes but he had two other clunkers at the end...Did you see what he did versus Clemson? Most importantly, What kind of film does he watch? Not the kind of "film" fnord watches, hopefully.according to Lombardi, there are 30 questions that he asks regarding the prospect.
12 Of them involve “does he watch film?”
With whom? How many times? What does he wear while watching film?
Go to the Super Bowl?I just can't see the 9ers keeping Garoppolo. If they keep him, they risk a situation where he goes out there and plays very well. Imagine he has another 2019 caliber season. Then what do you do??
Go to the Super Bowl?
All it means is it rehabs his trade value and they can command more in return in a trade next offseason. Unless Mac Jones (or whoever the QB winds up being) doesn’t show enough to be ready for 2022 either in which case the 49ers can just ride out the final year of Garoppolo’s contract. Alex Smith had the best season of his career in 2017 and that still didn’t stop the Chiefs from trading him the next offseason so they could proceed with their 2017 draftee Patrick Mahomes.I just can't see the 9ers keeping Garoppolo. If they keep him, they risk a situation where he goes out there and plays very well. Imagine he has another 2019 caliber season. Then what do you do??
There is a test they use to evaluate QBs reading defenses, processing and acting and he scored the highest in the history of the test.Fields is getting a lot of love by the media. Idk maybe bill gambles on him but i don’t like him as a player. He’s not quick with the ball.
Increase your trade demands.I just can't see the 9ers keeping Garoppolo. If they keep him, they risk a situation where he goes out there and plays very well. Imagine he has another 2019 caliber season. Then what do you do??
