Lombardi's Take on Our Draft, Analyzed by Curran and Perry

I found Lombardi's view on how the Patriots draft (let me tell you how I think, not what I think) and what it means in the context of this year's Patriots draft, to be very interesting. Also found Curran and Perry's analysis/debate of Lombardi's points to be very interesting as well.

Also some interesting talk about whether Cam can or cannot improve...

Perry points out that Dan Marino and Lamar Jackson show the fourth or fifth QB selected in the first round still can be amazing talents so we should be OK with moving up to pick a QB. On the other hand, the same rationale suggests we should be OK with trading down, we'll still get a first round QB that may be the next Marino or Jackson, and more draft capital.

Seems to highlight the danger with using terms like "first rounder".

I think Bill is more likely to trade down than trade up. It'd be amusing if he does something different, but I agree with Lombardi's take, the picks that are realistically available aren't worth the draft capital it would take to move up.

i believe it's lyin' season hence i don't believe anything that the insiders say this time of year because they are being fed disinformation. so i'll just watch the draft and have a few small items to throw at the tv after each of our picks

Marino dropped because of drug use rumors, not because of his passing ability, and then went on to have a great career as a passer.
Jackson benefitted because he went to a team that played the QB more as a RB and that gives a lot of teams trouble. The NYFL seems to be adjusting to their system though.

You just never know until they're in the NYFL.

Phil Perry's Next Pats Podcast is excellent as well. It stays focused on its topic and runs only during the offseason - previewing / reacting to free agency and the draft as the calendar progresses through those parts of the year.
