Friend of mine was a big player in Schilling's video game company - had a six-month running battle with Schilling to stop him from having Bible study in the office.

I met Schilling and religion never came up. He seemed like a very decent person.
He's also one of the top ten best pitchers of all time and was a major reason why the Red Flops ended their long drought. Too bad the current owners of the team shunned him when they had a reunion for the 2004 team. That was about as petty as anything I've ever seen and worse than anything Schilling ever did.

I think the poster was engaging in sarcasm. He said he met him and because he did not bring religion, it probably is conclusive enough that he will not seek to hold bible studies in the office.
It comes down to very a simple basis; political alignment. It blends the lines for many of us(I am included). We tend to defend those we have alignments with. When that is the case, we must personally see them do the things they are being accused regardless of any evidence out there before wavering on support. It has all become fake news.

You should talk to some of the people who worked for him - found out they didn't have health insurance when a woman went for her one of last prenatal visits and was told by the doctor that BCBS RI had dropped her - hich led to the 38 Studios' employees finding out that, yeah, they had all been dumped by BCBS RI for non-payment. Nobody in the company had a clue until that moment that they no longer had health care.

The employees worked for a solid month after RI raised the alarm about non-payment (the company should have immediately gone into bankruptcy - they should have gone into bankruptcy months BEFORE that to give the employees a softer landing). But no, the employees were kept ini the dark, adn kept working as they were promised by someone who talked to them as if they were family that the checks were coming. Maybe he really believed that, but it was incredibly unethical and borderline criminal. Those employees, hundreds, never got paid, lost a month of unemployment, and started their new journeys in the hole.

Several had their homes, which they thought had been sold in the move to RI, given back to them because the relocation company hadn't been paid - so now, they're out of a job, a month without income, and some suddenly with TWO mortgages. Yes, there were bankruptcies, and all because the employees were left in the dark about the truth of the financial situation.

Not all of this is on Schilling, of course, although he was THE guy at 38 Studios (and would never listen to anyone trying to tell him what had to be done), but your last sentence is pretty ridiculous - not inviting someone to a reunion (which was about a lot more than political posts or religion, I'm sure) is "worse" than what happened to the hundreds of people working for 38 Studios, something for which Schilling bears great responsibility?

Suffice it to say that you know nothing about 38 Studios - how it rose, how it fell, and the fallout - and leave it at that.

There was no seduction. Rhode Island welcomed 38 Studios, and some power players in Rhode Island made a fortune exploiting the deal. Schilling went down there believing it would save the company. They also put untenable requirements and restrictions on 38 n exchange for the funds. A true clusterf***.

Some of the RI people behind the scenes were licking their lips (or vulture beaks, I guess), circling overhead to feast on the easy and naive businessman who thought he knew what he didn't know.

I blame Curt for what happened internally to the employees - he has to take responsibility for that. He kept believing he could pitch his way out of the bottom of the 9th, but business doesn't work like that. Rhode Island was a s***show - I'd go so far as to call it a trap - for 38 from the beginning.

Rental markets being a vehicle for wealth accumulation has largely lead to housing costs outpacing wage growth and the wealth disparity. Foreign VC's started targetting trailer parks. Why? Stalin's purges, Maoist Cultural Revolution, and the massacres in Southeast Asia are all along that line.

and frankly, all of the Trotsky/Mao/Lenin style of revolutionary government gravitates VERY harshly towards zealotry. Communism works very hard to become a religion in its own right in order to supplant the local religion, since they see the Church as counterrevolutionary (not without reason, although the ends do not justify the means)

What was practiced by the Soviet Block and still practiced by the PRC is a corruption of communism. More like a cross between authoritarian fascism and cronyism. The closest we've had to real communism was the early Israeli kibbutzes, and that didn't scale up.

You think Sihanouk was any better? He wasn't. You can go all over the world and see killings of every stripe and color. It's not even that hard to do, from the mass genocides in Africa, Hitler and the Balkans, the UK in India, South and Central America, etc. In China, in just one year, 1927, they killed over a million communists.
