Path cleared for Jimmy's return? [SF trades for #3 pick]

There's a reason the Falcons have never won a Super Bowl, and it's not only Ryan.
I agree with you.
Let’s compare / contrast. We all saw the QB & on-the-field product NE worked with last season. Fans were losing it. They went 7-9. Ryan has gone 7-9 or worse five times in his career.

Hypothetical: The Niners have Jimmy G start and they have a great season.

How's that trade looking for them now? They've got a 30-year-old vet QB who took them far...

Alex Smith back to the Bay Area to mentor the kid they pick? I can't see them sitting on Jimmy and laying out 24m. Bosa's coming due for a QB-like salary. I mean, they just told the guy "You ain't the guy."

This isn't about leverage. You did you listen to Bill last year? He loves Cam. He does not see Cam the way we do. He sees him as a viable, cheap bridge guy. He didn't bring him back with the notion that he would just release him for another bridge guy. My feeling is the Niners told Bill we are not getting rid of Jimmy this year so he signed Cam. It has nothing to do with FA. If it was about Cam being some lure for FAs, we would not have spent a zillion dollars on day one.
He also loves Brandon King and he kept Jermanine Cunningham waaay longer than he should of and there was a certain nose tackle who had incriminating photos who stayed on the roster way too long.
Liking someone and acknowledging that the most important position in a multi billion dollar industry can be upgraded by a guy you know trust and can open the passing game you just spent millions upon millions for the risk of Watching Newton hit Henry or Smith in the knees with the ball while they are wide open is a easier decision then most act like it is.
Plus if Jimmy G becomes Glass Jimmy you have a rested healthy super cam you can bring out while Jimmy mends.
Or bring out Cam in situational situations. Third and short when you need that hard vs risking Jimmy made of Glassallo or when you need a 2 yard qb run into the goal line. Or just to keep the defense guessing.
It opens so much up.

You are misunderstanding. I am not saying that Bill would not want Jimmy. I am saying Bill was told that Jimmy will not be available which is why he signed Cam. He loves Cam and would not have signed him to just cut him a few weeks later when he got Jimmy. Bill does not roll that way.

Do you understand what reading comprehension, history, and common sense are? Umm nevermind.
Those players had leverage. Garopolo has none.
The history of a totally incomparable situation is not applicable.
Yes Jimmy should hope to be traded. No Jimmy has no standing or leverage to demand it. And there is no upside to him to try to be locker room cancer to force a trade as some suggested.

I dunno. Can’t talk for others, but I rated him “solid QB who knows the system and has had success”. He’s not Brady.

Question : how many current QBs are better than Jimmy ?
It’s impossible to answer that question without factoring in his injury prone nature.

Of course he would. He “rolls” by what is best for the football team.
If he can find a better qb than newton he will. He told him as much because he announced through the media he was still looking at all available QBs.
he paid newton like a backup there is no way newton thinks he is guaranteed a job.
he won’t cut him he will let him compete with Stidham and a draft pick for the backup job.
Belichick knows newton sucks just as much as we do.

You are clueless.
Right because you can’t refute it.
But go ahead prove me clueless

If the 49ers don’t want to trade Jimmy it’s because they want him to start.
if he demands a trade and they say no what LEVERAGE does he have?
LEVERAGE means he has an ADVANTAGE in the situation. It means him holding out hurts the team more than him. It doesn’t. They will just go find a different bridge starter and Jimmy can sit home not getting paid.
If as people suggest he tries to be a locker room cancer as the starting QB of a team he will no doubt risk his performance, his reputation and his market.

Sure Jimmy would like to traded but he has about as much standing, leverage and ability to force the issue as Nkeal Harry.

So refute this, prove me clueless and explain what LEVERAGE Jimmy has. Otherwise go back to acting like a bltch to other posters.

And if he does do this for this reason, we probably shouldn't want him anyway. So there would be no benefit to us for him to shoot his way out of town like this.

14 teams ahead of New England...

Jacksonville - Lawrence
NY Jets - Wilson
SF - Lance/Fields
Atlanta - won't take a QB
Cincinnati - won't take a QB
Miami - won't take a QB
Detroit - won't take a QB
Carolina
Denver
Dallas - won't take a QB
NY Giants - won't take a QB
Philadelphia - won't take a QB
LA Chargers - won't take a QB
Minnesota - won't take a QB

Patriots have a shot at Mac Jones or best player available here, or they can move up to 4/5/6/7 to grab the guy they want there.
Denver just might take a QB. They are not sold on Drew Lock here.

This QB offseason is interesting and exciting. The Pats being in the position they are in and with a GM/coach like BB where nothing can be speculated, fans always in the dark, it becomes frustrating for some. Who will it be? Cam is the starter of the first game, really, at what position? Stidham gets the job, no Jimmy G and then the BB total surprise. I have no other choice than to wait for Belichick. Let the rumors continue.

Does he need leverage?

What does Shanahan look like if Jimmy goes out there and lights it up and he's got a 3+ 1st-round cost "superstar" sitting on the bench bleeding value?

That seems like a helluva risk for a coach. JG plays QB and they get back to the SB, and their 1st round pick for the next 3 years doesn't see the field (and all the fans start saying, "Man, we could've had...").

I really don't see it. I see him bringing in a true bridge - maybe Smith back to the Bay area, or even Cam in a trade with New England. I can think of 10-20 million reasons, not even counting the draft capital or the QB uncertainty going forward, that SF is better off cutting ties with JG right
now. Also, Bosa has to be paid soon and carrying 24m for Jimmy is money better spent.

Shanahan is a weird dude, though, so who knows?

He really has no place to be offended. He is the reason they just traded a kings ransom for a qb. Think about that. Your play and your inability to be on the field made your employer sacrifice 3 1sts and a 3rd to get better at YOUR JOB. You don’t have the standing to act offended and become a disruption. What he does have the standing to do is go play well and answer the critics.

Again, we are discussing this from the standpoint that SF doesn’t want to trade him. They may. But if they keep him it’s because they want him to start until
the rookie is ready. If that’s what they want to do then he has no leverage to force a trade.
I’m not saying they won’t trade him, I’m saying it’s silly to think if they don’t want to that Jimmy has any ability to demand they do.

And if he does do this for this reason, we probably shouldn't want him anyway. So there would be no benefit to us for him to shoot his way out of town like this.
But he wouldn’t. He wouldn’t even consider it. Bozo ideas on a message board aren’t really life.

And honestly, I've never seen any behavior from him that seems to indicate he'd pull a move like that anyway. He has his warts (durability, potentially toughness, low ceiling) but professionalism is not one of them.

Hate to again break it to you guys, but Cam Newton is the WK 1 starter. Even if Bill picks a QB in the later rounds (hopefully), it'll be for competition with Stidham.

Jimmy G is starting in Frisco. We may or may not see a move like Flores with Tua later in the season, but Shanahan isn't so dumb to not have a backup plan in the event his QBOF isn't ready for primetime. JimmyG has 24 million reasons to want to stay regardless of the rook coming in. He has to play lights out this season to increase his value when he gets cut next year.

We can start a new Jimmy G thread in 2022 or just bump this one.
