We have Stid. It’s a shame we don’t have Ryan Mallet to trade for a first anymore.

Lol they are taking a QB. No way they give up that much for a tackle or WR. lol.I think they're not committed to drafting a QB. But if someone they're not expecting to be available is there, they might still take one. The premise of the initial post was how a QB might drop to the Pats, but I think plenty of teams would grab someone who is falling
Keeping Jimmy with the heir apparent in waiting just creates a mess. The 49ers will most likely trade him.Another point, is why would they trade Jimmy now? He’s worth it to keep as a bridge, is already under their cap, and if they got rid of him, there’s no one left to spend the money on in free agency. I strongly think they’re keeping him.
Very different. Watson wants out but Houston wants him as their QB now and in the future. 49ers just signaled as loudly as possible they are moving on from Jimmy.Yes. You must be watching peewee football. Have you not heard of Watson? That is exactly what he is trying. There are plenty of divas who force a trade: Jalen Ramsey, Yannick Ngakoue, Jamal Adams, Antonio Brown, Eric ****erson, Randy Moss, Jerome Bettis, Marshall Faulk, Brett Favre, Joe Montana, John Elway, etc... You act as if a player has never demanded a trade and threatened to hold out. I really don't know what league you watch.
Oh ya just ignore all the other billion guys a listed. I didn't say it was the same. Its similar.Very different. Watson wants out but Houston wants him as their QB now and in the future. 49ers just signaled as loudly as possible they are moving on from Jimmy.
Why would Pats send significant picks for a guy that's only played in half of his possible gamesThere are rumours the 49ers want Minshew. I wonder if a 3 way deal could be made between us the Jags and Niners. Something like:
Pats send significant pick to Jags and Gilmore to the Niners (Cap space reasons)
Jags send Minshew to Niners
Niners send Jimmy G to us.
Just spitballing.
First QBs are different. They are unique. Farve and Montana were very different. Farve had Rogers in wAiting and Montana had Young. Elway was never under contract.Oh ya just ignore all the other billion guys a listed. I didn't say it was the same. Its similar.
That's a horrible tradeNo, I’m saying Jimmy G might be worth that. 49ers are effectively just swapping Jimmy G For Minshew. We’re trading Gilmore and the pick for Jimmy G effectively.
1st of all, trading up to five would take 3 first rounds, plus a few other pics... see 49rs trade just now. Thats not happening, best they are going to get to is 10 without mortgaging the future of the team.If you aren't a Jimmy G believer (and I am not), this gives me a sinking feeling. Here are the possibilities I can see from here:
- We trade up into the top 5 to get whatever leftover QB nobody else felt was worth drafting to that point. Really no assurance of success with that approach. If we're giving up all that capital to pick that early, I want it to be the actual target. Luckily, I suspect that trade is only made if the actual target falls to a pick we can get.
- SF relents into trading us Jimmy G, probably for way more trade capital than I'd be comfortable with. He gives us an improvement over Cam, but is still just Kirk Cousins-tier, and gets hurt midseason and we end up with Cam anyway.
- We just end up with Cam again and maybe draft a game changing linebacker or WR round 1.
I don't know how I'd rank these scenarios, but I definitely like the Jimmy G one the least.
Chicago already has $12m in cap space tied up on two retread QB’s (Dalton and Foles), they won’t add a third QB unless it’s a rookie. Similar situation with less money for Washington (they re-signed Heinicke and Allen and added Fitzpatrick in free agency, I think they’d cut Allen for a rookie but not another vet). There aren’t any other immediately obvious trade destinations other than New England. It’s a game of chicken at this point between the two sides. If San Fran is smart, they hold jimmy out for the best possible deal from three totally desperate teams, Chicago, Washington and us!
Watson might want out, but at the moment he's too radioactive to move.Very different. Watson wants out but Houston wants him as their QB now and in the future. 49ers just signaled as loudly as possible they are moving on from Jimmy.
As a reminder: whoever trades for him needs to be able to absorb his $23M salary, or there has to be some sort of contract re-do before he gets traded. If San Fran is smart, they hold jimmy out for the best possible deal from three totally desperate teams, Chicago, Washington and us!
Cool. But I come here far too infrequently to witness that football mind actually saying something intelligent, so I'll have to take your word on it.I like your post because you're giving Kontra some shyt, and agree with you for the most part but Kontra is clearly not a "Bradystan" type and is one of the best football minds on the forum.

Shut up. Jimmy is a QB and they are drafting his replacement.First QBs are different. They are unique. Farve and Montana were very different. Farve had Rogers in wAiting and Montana had Young. Elway was never under contract.
I read this morning an rumour that the eagles tried to trade to Number 3 as well...After two trades Miami dropped from #3 to #6 and added a 2021 3rd and 2023 1st. Miami would have offered the Eagles to swap the 3rd and 6th pick for the same package, a 1st in 2 years and a 3rd this year. That is the equivalent of a 2nd and 3rd at best. The Eagles declined and moved back to 12th. If the Eagles thought any of the QBs, after Wilson and Lawrence, were any good they would have moved up - the cost was reasonable. The Eagles obviously think QB 3 - 5 leave a lot to be desired. Most likely Miami agrees. Very unlikely either team will take a QB that is falling because they could have had the same player for marginal additional cost (or an opportunity lost cost).
Yup! SF is totally insane to make the deal. They have mortgaged their future for an unproven prospect. This is the type of deal a crazed Patriots fan would make (see a previous post to that effect, i.e. trading our first picks for the next 3 years). In years past a lot of the top QB prospects in the draft have flamed out. No sane GM makes this deal.I'm still trying to get my head around the cost SF paid to move up for the 3rd best option. This is the kind of trade you make for a sure thing, not a "maybe" will turn out ok with development.
If I'm a 49ers fan and they got to 2 I'd be happy as Wilson looks a safe bet.
Lance has exciting upside but you can't sacrifice the next few years of your franchise on boom/bust potential. Sure burn a 1st round pick on Jones and if he doesn't work out you're ok to try again another year, but again, no way on earth I'm trading the world to get him.
They must be sure about Fields.
