Path cleared for Jimmy's return? [SF trades for #3 pick]

Bill didn’t trade him until his hand was absolutely forced when Brady had an MVP season, he couldn’t work a contract that kept both, and if he didn’t get a deal done, Jimmy was walking for nothing. He literally waited until he had no other options on that one.
But the point is that Schefter kept insisting he wouldn’t be traded. Only afterwards did he say, “oh, I didn’t mean during the season, I just meant the offseason.”

I’m not trying to shoot the messenger (Schefter). Just saying these media guys get played sometimes for leverage.

It’s like early noughties Patriots’ draft capital

Edit: Ugh. Tweet deleted.

My guess is a 3rd and future first or Gilmore and future first. I think teams would be mad to give up anything more than a late pick for Harry.
Yeah, he's sort of filler there.

To be honest I am coming to terms with sending #15 for him... I don't love it, but... What's worth more, being able to get your guy for the next few years and potentially competing for a title right away, or getting a really-good-but-probably-not-blue-chip player at #15 and still having a gaping hole at QB on an otherwise loaded roster?

At this point the Pats should take BPA at 15 unless one of the qbs they are interested in is still on the board around 9 then they might trade up otherwise stay pat and take Mills in the second round. I think he has a lot of potential just needs a year to develop.

If I'm Jimmy I hand in a trade request at this news. He's too young to be just a vet placeholder for a rookie.

Can't build a future with a franchise that has effectively said "babysit our new star for a year then you're history."

Jimmy will start in SF you’re not winning a super bowl with a rookie and there contenders

You think they paid 2022 and 2023 1st round picks to keep the guy on the bench, and pay $25m to some other guy? I have a hard time believing that. If they want insurance, you pay someone like Trubisky $10m instead of letting him walk to Buffalo where he’ll get no playing time.
Niners are getting a bunch of their injured players back. With a healthy roster and a healthy Jimmy they are SB ready. Let the QB#3 sit while he learns and depending on what happens during the season bring him in or not. I doubt a guy like Fields is ready to start on Wk 1.

If they trade Gilmore to SF who do we like at 15?

Again, the trade didn’t happen until a lot changed. Brady was in the middle of an MVP season, Jimmy’s agent wasn’t playing ball on a team friendly contract, Kraft inserted himself for the first time and told Bill that Brady was his QB. The trade happened at the last possible moment when Jimmy was either getting traded or was going to hit free agency. At that point those were the options. He wasn’t actively shopping around Jimmy or angling a trade. Jimmu was already gone and it was a matter of getting something or nothing.

Tbh - I'd try to move up a little bit and grab one of the top tier non-QBs who probably won't start getting taken til #5. They've got lots of picks, can easily move up from #15 to maybe #8 or 9.

Nah. 49’ers should be good this year. If you are Jimmy you bet on yourself and try to win your job or build your market next year. He gets released and he’s getting a prove it contract and if he doesn’t live up to it he’s probably going to be a backup forever

If they can go 4 or 5 they’ll have a shot at Sewell, Smith or Pitt

I'd give a 3rd rounder for Jimmy G, but only if he reworks his deal completely. He's not worth 25m a year currently. Jimmy G for 15m a year, sure. For 25m No no no!

A 25 million dollar seat warmer, nobody is buying that bs. Jimmy will be traded or released at some point. Patience will be key for NE.
