I havent followed, but have the Bucs kept Brate? I dont think Gronkowski is a guy who you want at this point in his career to be a full-time receiving Tight end due to his injury history.

They used him perfectly last year. limited snaps receiving and then unleashed him in the playoffs
I believe Gronk had a lot of snaps especially after OJ went down, but he stayed back blocking quite alot.

Howard will be huge in this offense.

Why haven't they made the most obvious signing they should have had, James White?

I think they will like to bring back fournette. Some of these NFC teams are trying to get better. That includes the rams.

The Bucs decision on the TE position will be interesting. Will they keep both Howard and Brate as backups again, or save the cap space for other signings and/or extensions?

If you move on from one of them to save the ~$6 million, would have to think Howard's the guy you keep for his TE1 potential. Problem is that he hasn't been able to stay healthy consistently, and Brate came up big late in the season and especially in the playoffs. Having a good TE2 available I think is essential to keeping Gronk fresh.

I think what you do is put off the decision for a year and try to keep them both. Maybe Brate agrees to a pay cut in exchange for some guaranteed money this year (he currently has none). Then, next year, Howard is a free agent and Gronk may want to retire - can figure out who to bring back and will still have Brate.

Gronk's injury history might mean they want all 3 tight ends

I agree. It is a pretty sweet problem to have actually. Howard when healthy is as dynamic a TE as Brady has ever had. You pair him with Gronk and it is the best TE duo in the league. Now, if you keep Brate then holy cow, you can run whatever the heck you want and be as multiple as you like as you have 3 legit pass catchers and blockers.

I think when Bucs picked up OJ's 5th yr option, it makes moving on from him not an option.

And OJ howard. for all the hype the guy gets he never can stay healthy.

an Achilles injury for a tight end is pretty significant.

His 5th year option isn't guaranteed, right? I thought the change to making the option fully guaranteed was more recent.

Either way, in a trade there would be no dead cap, so they could move on if they wanted to. Don't think they will though.

It's fully guaranteed but you're correct, with a trade there wouldn't be a dead cap hit.

Gronk's pointed to this stuff about his physical status repeatedly. I doubt it's by mistake.

Godwin needs a big year. He had a down year by his standards. I think the Bucs need to resign AB. One of those guys gets nicked up and they could be in trouble. Need depth.
100% agree - The Bucs offense will be much better with AB than without. Don't see much competition for him - maybe the Seahawks try to appease Russell Wilson by going after him. If the offers are close, gotta think AB will choose to stay with Brady.

Just a note: I heard/read (I can't remember which) a report which suggested that Baltimore may be in the mix.
