John Brown could be a steal. He had a great year in 2019 and was injured for much of last year. If he rebounds, the Raiders could have gotten themselves a really good player when his value has been diminished.
What was the cost?

Meh. He really really struggles against the run.
Which explains why he chose Wise over Butler for a similar price. Butler is a better pass rusher while Wise, while not great, is a better run defender. Belichick’s MO on defense has always been to stop the run 1st, which is why he still has bigger linebackers compared to many other teams.

Lions tried the same thing. Didn't work for them and likely will not work for Miami either. More of the same "mimic BB" management style approach.
Everyone tries is, this is common with every new coaching staff. Belichick’s early 2000 teams had ex-Jets and ex-Browns. Parcells brought a bunch of ex-Giants when he came here, then took a bunch of Patriots like Curtis Martin to the Jets with him.

Crap that's less for Butler than I expected, I hoped we would resign him. He would be the best interior Rusher we have so far

The run defense was really good in the 3 games he played at NT. Under the radar signing that could pay off down the road.

He’s going to cost pennies against the top-51 cap right now, like only $100k or so. Interested to see what happens when Miguel updates his numbers.

They are different but both would have the same ideal role, passing down DT who can play outside on occasion in running situations/against running teams to beef up the DL.
I actually like wise better in both roles.
What butler is better at is playing inside on running downs but both suck at it and shouldn’t be there.

And no doubt it’s “up to” 4 mill

His last season with the Pats
He finished the 2019 season with 64.5 overall grade … NFL and PFF player stats for New England Patriots C Ted Karras on Pro Football Focus. ... In his final six games – including the postseason – Karras' individual game pass blocking grades checked in at: 85.3, 83.9, 84.9, 80.4, 63.9, and 84.9.

One of the most intriguing free agent names for the Miami Dolphins this offseason is center Ted Karras, who did just about everything right in the 2020 season to earn a new contract but still may not. Why?
Despite playing all 16 games for the Dolphins after coming over from the New England Patriots on a one-year contract and providing needed offensive line stability for the first time in multiple seasons,

2020 Season Stats Andrews

Offense Snaps Played
724 30th
Penalties
1T-26th
Sacks Allowed
2T-13th
67.7 TOTAL GRADE PFF

2020 Season Stats Karras

Offense Snaps Played
1068 10th
Penalties
3T-15th
Sacks Allowed
2T-13th
65.3 TOTAL GRADE PFF

You are going to have to pay Andrews at least double of Karras. Would have rather Andrews for same money BUT..........
Not a bad signing.

Why? Butler is way better on passing downs as an interior Pass Rusher. He was a force in the second half of the season

I think this FA shows that BB did not last year's team. It seems like most of the team's free agents were let walk, even for not a lot of money in some cases like Adam Butler. BB saw this FA as an opportunity to upgrade, not maintain status quo for sure.

I disagree. Butler made a couple of plays but was stifled most of the time.

I didn't notice Wise much on passing downs tbh. Butlers swim move was dangerous. I have to admit Butlers first half of the season wasn't nearly like the second half but he showed up there.

Karras has never had blood clots in his lungs either

Wise has very good per snap pass rushing numbers.

Andrews was never coming at the same money as Karras. He’s the best FA center now and he’ll get paid as such after the Linsley deal. Would not be shocked to see a 10 mill a year offer

A player signing with another team doesn’t mean BB doesn’t like the player. Price is a factor. We know he wanted Andrews but not at his price.
