Who do you trust more, Schefter or Pelissero? There is some divergence on the Newton contract. Personally I trust Schefter more BUT the Pelissero logic makes a lot more sense. So many teams are up against the cap. There is not much of a market for Cam Newton.

I remember @Ring 6 said one week, I believe it was before the first or second Bills game (but the search function on this forum has gone to crap), that if Cam started the next week, he would officially think Bill has lost it. I’m beginning to think he was on to something.
I don’t think I said that but I did say if Newton is brought back them belichick needs to be checked for dimensia.

You have access to his contract ? Maybe send the details to Reiss & co. because nobody yet has reported how much is guaranteed.
I misread Rob's post.. Sorry.. That being said.. if it's 3-5M guaranteed, we're stuck with Cam for the year and he won't be on the bench.

interesting that this signing comes at a time where there is another thread saying Bill is the best FA GM over the last decade.

1. This signing certainly doesn't excite me like the Brown trade. I'd rather he'd sign someone like Minchew. So I'm trying to think about WHY. What does Bill know that we don't.

a; He thinks he knows WNY Cam continually short hopped so many throws and can fix it.
b He felt he needed the semblance of the perception that the QB situation in NE isn't "up in the air", in order to attract FA's
c. When the contract is revealed we will find that the Pats have minimal cap damage if they want to move one from Cam

Other than that, I'm clueless just like everyone else. Cam is back, I can only hope that what we saw last season isn't what we will see this one and if in camp it looks like nothing improved then Bill will cut bait on him.

We shall see.

People and this Covid talk. I know plenty of people close to me who had it. Nobody spoke of a lingering fog or any kind of bs. Cam just sucked, he got figured out real quick by opposing defenses. The guy sucks, the Covid fog bs is a lame excuse.

I heard that negotiations with Brian Hoyer, their #1 target, were going nowhere so they felt like they had to make this move.

LMAO

But it may not be the end. Signing Cam removes almost all leverage SF has over them for Jimmy. They'll probably be forced to cut him now. Then Bill can try to get him on a better deal.

Even if that does not happen, though, if Bill surrounds Cam with significantly better players the team will probably be at least decent. Hopefully they will draft a QB to redshirt this year also.
I think it adds leverage.
Give me what I ask or you are stuck watching cam Newton play qb for you.

I'm sure it's a good chunk incentives, but what type of incentives? If it's playtime, he's going to end up earning most of it. If it's performance, that's another story.

Depends, if we have another plan a at qb maybe those playing time incentives won’t be reached. Cam as a backup/ insurance in case plan a doesn’t work out at a little under the 10m mark wouldn’t be ideal, but also not terrible since he would still have plenty of value in short yardage situations if we do find a better qb

This makes me think Lance in a trade up, or Jaime Newman in the 2nd.
At least Cam will have a real off-season. And if they actually pay him 14M that will mean something went very well by the end of the season. I had honestly soured on the FA QB market with the prices.

Why would you take a QB who is projected as a 6th rounder in the 2nd?

Keep in mind, the current SB MVP did not look good with these weapons lol.

Palmer and Warner are two semi recent examples of QBs who looked totally finished and rebounded. It’s not that crazy to think he could pull it off. We definitely need to draft a QB.

Hopefully Cam hits up Curtis Samuel. Cam is very popular around the league regardless of what this forum thinks of him.

They aren't conflicting - Schefter is reporting the maximum contract value including any incentives; Pelissero is saying what is more likely to be the value that he does earn. Cam's max value last year was $8m but I think he only got around $4m.

Agree 1000%. This is just a bad move all around. I would take any FA QB over Cam. This guarantees ANOTHER losing season. How long will Kraft want to deal with losing seasons.
Well, NE is allllllll the way up to ONE season of ONE loss to put the team under .500 so he better press the panic button asap.

I think the odds that JG is on the '21 49ers are substantially higher than on the '22 team.

Why eat that much dead cap space when you don't even have a proven replacement yet. If I recall correctly next year they can move on from him for cheap.

There's virtually no dead cap so they can move on whenever they want.

what a waste of money and cap space, looking forward for the missed reads, hope the pats resign White too, so somebody can tell Cam who is the Mike....ffs

I think Cam will be a very good recruiter. NFL players leaguewide love him.

“Gives him
A chance to make a little more than last year” is a reference to the high end.
they definitely conflict.
