Player Signing Cam newton resigned 1 year deal

Literally the worst move in Belichick’s Patriot’s career. Unbelievable. Literally ruined my weekend. Just a TERRIBLE waste of cap space. Can you imagine being one of the worst at your job in your career path, and getting a HUGE raise ? Can’t remember being this angry as a Pat’s fan.

Some great dynasties take a long time to get back to even getting to a Super Bowl. Cowboys went from 1978 until 1991, Steelers went from 1979 until 1995, 49ers went from 1994 until 2012, This is the beginning of what’s going to be a LONG wait to return to greatness, and Bill Belichick won’t be around when it happens.

you've seen how much the cap hit will be?

I agree. Unreal.

Truly incredible how you can be as bad as Newton was and still sign him to $14 mil. He didn’t have weapons, but even when his receivers were open to couldn’t hit them. Ugh..

And last year's deal was worth up to 8M. Lets see what the actual guarantees and incentives are before jumping off a cliff.

That being said I dont know why anyone would expect some crazy low figures. Have people seen what even backup QBs make ?
Exactly. Based on last year and other possibilities there is no way in hell this is fully guaranteed.

I've been calling this for months. Totally predictable.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath. Cam now has a 5 month headstart vs last year to integrate himself into the offense.
Exactly. I'm not a huge Cam Newton fan by any stretch of the imagination but his coach loves him, his teammates love him, and he has time to work on his game so it meshes better with a McDaniels offence (and vice-versa)

Well, the reality is we dont know whats out there. And unless we are getting a russel or watson who is better than cam? I guess they went with the "at least with cam we know what we are getting". Maybe hoping for more (which i think he can definitely do).

The offense was trash so given there really arent great options out there, lets see what he can do with some weapons.

Now, will they draft someone in the 1st round?

The only thing that gives me pause is he said "close to", not "up to". Usually the media is very specific with that distinction.

If this contract is as expensive as it looks on the surface, that's not backup money unless you consider the contract Indy gave Brissett when they wanted him to start.

Also, we gave Cam much less a year ago and he didn't really prove to be worth more than what he got.

Schefter is reporting what the agent has leaked to him. So obviously it will be the top end of what the deal could pay.

We will know when someone like Volin gets his fat fingers on the actual deal. I'd imagine he is getting a nice signing bonus this year as to kinda address last year's ridiculous deal.

But my expectation is that more than half of the 14m will be in incentives, roster bonuses, making playoffs and so on.

Given how low his TD totals and yardage was last year it would be a shock if the Pats are not using them as NLTBE incentives to move some money to '22.

I'm surprised Pats didn't go after Fitzpatrick.

My concern from film was his lack of seeing the field and his indecisiveness .

I mean, we’ll see what’s what : but if it’s not full of incentives (including roster bonus), oof.

If it’s 14 mil over 1 year he’s going in as the starter. We will surely draft someone and possibly add a cheaper vet as well.
Depends on the details. Whether or not that 14 million is incentive based.

I'm ok with it if he's just the bridge to a high draft pick. If not, and we're doing this again next offseason, I'll be very concerned.

I mean....they just spent 25 million between Cam and Trent Brown. Going to be tough to go nuts on the WR spot if this keeps up.
Let's settle down until we see what the Cap hit is on both of them.
First incentive: double digit touchdown passes.
LOL, Good job, you literally just made me laugh and spill my water!!!

Highly doubtful it's a straight 25m in cap space and they're both 1 year. So you can give backloaded contracts, how do you think they do all the big deals? Mahomes was a 5m cap hit last year and is a 24m cap hit next season after signing the biggest contract ever
