Player Signing Trent Brown trade to Pats

I'm not trying to get on Andrews...I've had a few posters say that I hate him, not the case, I have just seen him get blown up a little too much over the years by big defensive tackles....I think he is a great leader and clubhouse guy, I would just rather have Thuney than him. A different level of player.

Yes, but that means the Pats won't have to break the bank to sign him. Thuney is going to be highest paid guard wherever he ends up. the Pats just gave Mason top of the market guard money a few years ago. I don't think you can have both your guards near the top of the market at their position.

it actually depends on which side is the blind side (QB throws left or right)

As of right now, Tua is the only left handed starting QB in the league....

Trent Brown was elite here yes at left tackle. And he hasn't been a good RT elsewhere. We shouldn't force it because of some bias that he is a RT. He was an elite LT for the Patriots and won a ring playing left tackle. Maybe don't mess with that and have him play LT. Wynn is too small for tackle, he gets beat up and hurt constantly.

“He’s the best right tackle in the National Football League,” Miller said Wednesday after the first of two joint practices with the 49ers. “And he may even be a top-five tackle, period, in the National Football League. There’s not another tackle who’s that tall, that big and can move the way he moves.”
“He’s great. He’s got a big future ahead. He’s going to have one of the biggest (contracts) for an offensive lineman,” Miller said. “...He’ll be as good as he wants to be. When he’s on, there’s not another tackle in the National Football League that’s as good as him.”

“It’s disappointing,” Gruden said. “Obviously, what he did put on tape was very impressive.”

In 11 games, Brown allowed one sack in 326 pass-blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Another freezing cold take. In San Francisco and with the Raiders, he was an elite RT when he was right. In San Francisco, it was a matter of inconsistency because of youth and lack of focus at times and with the Raiders injuries were the problem.

No, but back in 2018 we didn't have the luxury of having the foot talent at LT we have with a healthy Wynn. If you recall, that back then, against certain rushers, Brown would need a little help to slow down speed rushers. Now there are even more of those speed rushers in the league, and there will be even more after this draft.

But RW, the question was fair and as just fans we are all just enjoying the speculation of arm chair QB's. Unless or until, Bill decides to give me or you a call for OUR opinion of where to play his new toy, then this is all kind of moot.
I do agree there are more speed rushers and defenses are quicker/faster......and smaller.

When healthy, motivated and in-shape, Brown's size (I think) negates the quickness Wynn has.

Speed kills but so do fat people that pancake little guys

Scott Mitchell could loose 500lbs and come back.

You never know...

Brandon Scherff got tagged, which means Thuney is by far the best available G in FA. He is going to break the bank. Looking at the last few years, BB usually rarely signs high priced players that would cost him a comp pick.
Because he hasn’t had the cap space to. This year he has over 60 mill. Getting comp picks isnt happening.

I agree. Belichick’s not going to sit on $60m. The only way I see the compensation pick becoming a factor is if BB is able to acquire multiple high performing and high cost players in the trade market. I strongly doubt he’d spend the $60m entirely on players who were cut by other teams. That’s a luxury when the team has a lot of talent. This current roster has a lot of holes to fill, and I doubt Belichick will let them fester just so he can get pick 100 in the 2022 draft. We’ll see though.

Here it is: the uncertainty problem. Coupled with not liking his covid-impacted stay in Vegas, the move makes sense for Brown.

The Raiders were NOT going to release Trent Brown prior to free agency, per source. They intended to bring him to training camp to earn his spot. The Patriots’ offer, coupled with Brown’s willingness to rework his deal, made the trade happen today.

I can confirm what Jeff is reporting here. He wasn't an LV cap casualty, but the reality is that Brown was likely going to have to restructure to play anywhere in 2021, including the Raiders. He knew that. So, he jumped at doing it early in the offseason when there was more $$...

This year especially Bill can pick and choose which players to sign because there are going to be a lot more cuts than usual and those don't count against comp pick. We have too many holes on this roster to just get 1-2 high priced pieces in FA and be back in the mix. Upgrading this roster is going to take more than one offseason and i guarantee you Bill is looking at comp picks when he decides which players he is going to sign. The patriots are always one of the teams with the most comp picks and thats not a coincidence.

Patriots have always ended up with the most comp picks because they had SB winning rosters and couldn't keep everyone. They're buyers in the FA market now won't restrict themselves to only the trade market and cut players. If Bill has the chance to sign a good young player who will be a part of the future, I would expect them to do that (and that would be worth more than having a comp pick in the draft). Those types of players aren't as likely to be cut.

It’s not a coincidence but it’s because they always have no cap room to sign players to offset the losses.

We don't know why they couldn't get a long term deal done. And there was never anything mentioned as to why.. Until it actually happens,. there is hope.

Personally, I'd like to retain Thuney over Andrews and Cannon. And that is possible now with the addition of Brown.
I agree : Thuney is the one I’d keep too. Was just reading the room. Hope to be wrong.

We all want to keep Thuney but the 2021 cap space used by the OL is up there.

Brown- $11m
Shaq- $9.5m
Cannon- $9.6m
Owenu- Peanuts

Thuney would be big money.

My gut tells me Andrews is a $5m AAV guy but not sure what that NEP will want to commit in terms of a signing bonus/guarantees.

i believe we got him and a 7th...we sent a 5th in return to the Raiders. Sucks he is only on a 1 year deal for $11M i think. good to have him back and we have a real solid line now
He had 2 year left. I suspect that it was the patriots who wanted a single year.

I don’t know who is playing where once the season starts. Training camp will sort that out. All I know is we have a bunch of good assets on the OLine. Now build up the Dline and the trenches will be solid. Building a team around the trenches is an old but good strategy
