BB ready to spend to in Free Agency

Looks like the Pats will draft every players in this draft

I look forward to free agency and what this bumper crop of players will reward us for undergoing the austerity program last season...

While I am hopeful, I should probably rephrase that as cautiously optimistic... The first day or two should tell us what direction the QB decision is going in (vet, draft, bridge) ... This is going to be the biggest part of FA for me... gives us the direction of the team and what our expectations should be in the near future...

and while I want immediate signings, its gonna sting a bit when BB is prudent with the dollars again practicing patience instead of jumping into the deep end of the pool right away...

It’s going to be fun, the cap casualties have only begun.

I think the first few days could be painful. Expectations have been set high because of the cap space, but I still think BB will not go for top tier UFA's and will wait until the top ones are off the board.

Here are each teams cap situation.

Big offseason for bb. The space is there, there’s already talent becoming available there and plenty more to be made available. Picking in the top half of rounds 1 and 2.

Biggest off season ever, he has never come close to having this many resources.

Why would it be painful to watch him not overspend them get much more talent for the same cost?

Teams like the Jests i dont get... 77 million in cap space AND 16 million in dead money... Thought there was a minimum level to cap spending as well as a ceiling...

Yep. Be prepared for the 1000s of posts which say, "Why weren't we in on him?" or "Why didn't we offer what X team did?" or lastly, "We could have afforded him".

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Is someone even a fan if they aren’t pining After every available talent and questioning every signing we do make?
As well as ranting about every teams other signing topping our own?
Also let’s not forget BB shops at thrift shop while other GMs are shopping at Gucci.

Assuming you forgot the sarcasm emoji

Well it has to be true because he has at least 66 mill to spend. He isn’t going to not spend it.
Folks will complain when we re-sign our own. overpaying according to them.

Folks will complain when we don't choose to overpay the player that they want.

That being said, there will be lots and lots of patriots action within one week's time, 3 days before and 4 days after the start of the season.

He's going to spend it, but I suspect a good amount will go to players who were on the 2020 roster, and there will be complaints about that.

EDIT: Apparently I was beaten to the punch on making this point.

I don’t think so.
Who is there to spend it on? Maybe a couple guys but no one really expensive. The Cap space is going to be used to upgrade/get younger at a lot of those spots.
The idea that he will pay Andrews big $ is silly IMO. Andrews is a jag with health problems. Thuney is gone. Guy is at the age it’s either team friendly money or get younger. White may stay, may not but also is at the age paying a lot does t make sense.
I’m not seeing much of 66 mill going to keep our own FAs.

This.

We aren't looking under the couch cushions for an extra few million in cap space to keep High, Bulter, Collins, Flowers, Chandler Jones, etc.

Those days are gone.

I'd like to keep Andrews but not at $10m.

Maybe Thuney but I don't see it. Only precedent is Wilfork who signed a 5 year deal at 29 years old.

and while I want immediate signings, its gonna sting a bit when BB is prudent with the dollars again practicing patience instead of jumping into the deep end of the pool right away...

And I think that's okay. Currently this team needs (before resigning any of their own FA):

A starting QB
A starting LG (or RT if Onwenu moves over)
A starting C
A 3rd down RB
A starting TE (maybe 2, depending on how they feel about the kids)
A #1 WR
A #3/4 WR
2 big DL
2 LB (and I'm saying that even with Hightower back)

Some of these needs will be filled by resigning our FA. Some will be filled by young players making 2nd and 3rd year leaps (hopefully). We have plenty of resources to address the rest in FA with draft picks to add competition. But if we go out and decide to spend all of our cap space on four megadeals, we're not even filling half of those holes and now we're RELYING on draft picks and the progress of young players to fill in the rest.

I think BB will use the resources he has the offseason to add a lot of players, some big names, others more of the Van Noy level (and I mean that before he came to the Pats, those low risk, high reward types that he has had good success developing). He's going to add as much talent and competition to every group as he can, to make sure he gets 53 football players that he really likes and as much depth as possible.

The only position I could see a splurge on is QB, if the right guy is available, because that's the one position that you need to overpay for if you have the right guy. Everything else can go to the tier two level guys as far as I'm concerned. Flush this team with NFL caliber players at every position, rather than trying to build the roster with the most pro bowlers.
