Interesting development on the Jimmy G front

Lombardi is on record that both Bill and him thought Tom’s mental clock had slowed down and his arm was getting weaker.
They thought he was on the downside of his career.
My guess is that the report Kraft stopped the trade to San Fran could be very accurate.
I'm sure Tom's mental clock has slowed down.

However it hasn't been detrimental to his performance on the field.

49ers are not happy with Jimmy. Or at least not satisfied. Supposedly Shanahan isn't happy with Jimmy. The games he's missed and lack of progress.

I would trade our 3rd comp. I wouldn't hate it. He's limited but capable of getting hot or being good enough if he stays healthy.
I think there comes a point where you question if you want to give $25 million to someone so injury prone. Let's ignore the year SF traded for him, and in 3 years of action - 48 games - Jimmy has played 25. He suffered season ending injuries in 2 of 3 years. Heck, he couldn't even make it through Brady's 4 game suspension healthy.

I am wild-ass-guessing here, but it sure seems to me SF would love to keep him if he was healthy, but have no faith he can stay healthy.

BTW, I take ALL these QB rumors with a HUGE grain of salt.

Agents are trying to pretend there is demand for their guys to increase financial value.
Teams are trying to pretend there is demand for their own QB's to increase trade value.
Teams are trying to pretend they are interested in guys they aren't really interested in to drive up trade cost for a rival team.
Teams are trying to pretend they don't want guys they do want to drive down trade value (or lead to that player simply being cut).

It's all a fun game of cat 'n mouse.

This is basically how all draft meetings, workouts, visits, and rumors should be viewed as well. At best, it's due diligence because they want as much info as possible going into draft day. But most likely any meeting we hear about was put out there for specific reasons. It's why we almost never hear about players the Patriots actually draft. I think the last one I heard significant chatter about pre-draft that turned out to be true was Jerod Mayo.

Also reports of the Packers, Niners and Cardinals calling about Gilmore.
Would only make sense that Gilmore is involved in any hypothetical Jimmy G trade.
If we can get Pitts or Waddle at 15 and get Jimmy G that would be the start of something.
O.K. Cousin, If the rumors I have also heard, that the Cards have inquired about Gilmore's services, then I have a three Team plan. The Falcons want to trade down from pick #4.

Consider this for your Drafting pleasure. I understand that a pick may have been offered...Say the Cards second rounder pick # 49 which has a trade value or 410 points. Let's think a little outside the box.

I say to the Cards. "Oh ye of only 5 Draft picks".....perhaps we can make this more interesting. Mr. Keim (GM). we will give you Mr. Gilmore and a few additional picks for your 1st Round pick at #16 (1,000 points)

We have ten (10) Draft picks which we will never keep.

Mr Keim, we will give you our 2nd round pick #46 (440 points) plus a 4th Rounder you do not have Mr. Keim which is #141 (36.5 points) which equates to a final Gilmore value of 523.5 points which is in the second round value (so the Cards pick up an additional 2nd, plus a missing 4th Round pick and Gilmore for surrendering 1st round pick #16.

Now.......Swap out first Round pick #15 (1050 points) plus the Cards 1rst Round pick #16 (1000 points) to the Falcons (who want to trade down) for first Round pick #4 (1800 points value) plus the Falcons 3rd round pick #68 (250 points) which is a perfect fit points wise. Now the rebuilding Falcons get two first rounders.

We wind up with Pick #4, a third rounder pick #68 in exchange for our first rounder, our second rounder a 4th (we have three) and Gilmore.

Now let's play some more:
1- I am trading our 4th Round pick #125 plus Cannon (RT) to the Ravens for Orlando Brown Jr (who only wants to be LT)

2-I am trading our 3rd Round pick #96 plus our WR N'Keal Harry to the cash strapped and least amount of Draft picks (4!!!!!) the Saints, for WR Michael Thomas and DE Cameron Jordan. The Saints have no choice. They must lower the CAP. We have cash plus Draft picks.

3-Finally, I am going to the Eagles and offer up our 6th round pick #195, for TE Zach Ertz. They have CAP issues as well.

So we wind up with 1st round pick #4, 3rd Round pick #68 plus our own picks of #116 in the 4th, #155 in the 5th, 193 in the 6th and #237 in the 7th Round........plus a player haul of young Orlando Brown Jr. at LT, Cameron Jordan at DE, Michael Thomas at WR and TE Zach Ertz.

How did I do?

P.S. Now that the Cards signed Watt, a top starting CB could make the Cards defense scary.

Even if Bridgewater is a 17million cap hit. With guys needing to be paid are the niners going to tie $45million of their cap to 2 quarterbacks? One that will sit on the bench?

IMO they are exploring Bridgewater to replace Garoppolo. They have "committed" to Garoppolo as their 2021 starter verbally but if they said anything different it would hurt his trade value, so of course they're going to commit to him. They don't want to appear to be looking for an upgrade because they already know moving him with his cap hit won't be easy as it is - if teams know he's just going to be cut eventually, no one will trade.

I think they are getting a trade deal set up for a new QB and a deal with NE simultaneously. Then they'll execute both deals at roughly the same time. Trading for the new QB first means NE probably just waits for his release. Trading Garoppolo first allows the other team with the other QB to raise the asking price. Lots at play there. You don't see 3-team trades in the NFL almost ever but it could make some sense here.

Another possibility is that NE really wants Garoppolo before free agency starts and SF is holding their feet to the fire while exploring what options are out there to replace him afterwards.

They're not letting Jimmy go this year. Next year? Very real possibility. We need another plan this year.

Completely agree sir

I kinda like Teddy Bridgewater.

Part of me would rather have him for $20m than Jimmy.

He won 5 games with the saints in 2019 and looked pretty good. 9tds and 2 interceptions passing for 67% completion. It's why carolina thought they could capture some of that magic.

Carolina definitely didn't have the same talent level or coaching so his play dropped off this year. Not sure if he was asked to do more or it was just coaching/system

His last two years are not terrible. Give him some playmakers and he could do something.

The problem is we don't have any.

Cousin, Jimmie G is an option. Most Posters would like Jimmie G.
I could not believe this. I looked at the stats.

Cousins, look at the numbers between
Jimmie: 48 Games 67.5% completion, 8,042 YARDS, 51 TDs, 26 INT
Mitch: 51 Games 64% completion 10,609 TARDS, 64 TDs , 37 INT

Mitch is 3 years younger (29 versus 26). He will not requires Draft capitol

2,000 MORE YARDS AND 13 MORE TDs in only 3 more games.

Using 2017 as a starting point>
Jimmie G has missed 34 games
Mitch has missed 14 games

O.K. Gents. I am leaving the Jimmie G caravan

You’ve won another straight jacket.

Besides that, it was another fun read to pass the time during the offseason.

Bridgewater has a $17 million base. That would be what the 49ers would have on their salary cap. The rest is dead bonus money which doesn't get traded. The 49ers could convert all or part of his base salary into a bonus and reduce the cap significantly.
No idea why somebody would want to pay that much for Bridgewater. Keenum is basically the same player and cost like 7M.

Thank You Cousin. Enjoyed producing it.

A team is might be pickin sorry ass Bridgewater over Jimmy G and some still think Jimmy is some grab

49ers may be calling Carolina because they may know that Watson will be traded there much like Stafford predicted a few days prior he would be traded to the LA Rams.

Poor 9ers fans.
