How about this: Njoku and OBJ from the Browns for Gilmore and a 5th?
The Browns would move both. Njoku is a one year rental. OBJ has three.
If the Browns add JJ Watt with Miles Garrett and now have Ward and Gilmore at the corners they look good on Defense and they have Hooper as TE and Landry, they need to pick up one WR in FA or the Draft.
Perhaps one more trade. Go get former Ohio State star WR Michael Thomas from the cash strapped Saints
This would be a superb Browns Team.

OBJ and Njoku would be a great start to 2021 for the Pats........even if they took Cam back.

I don't buy it, especially with how complicated the Patriots offense is. All of these re-threads (Trubisky, Mariota, Winston, etc.) will have difficulty picking up Pats system imo.

If you can't get a QB to run your system, or WRs to play in your system, maybe it's time to rethink...your system.

Pro Football Focus recently predicted landing spots for the top 50 NFL free agents and it did not have any signing with the New England Patriots.

There's only like 3 or 4 guys on that list that I would think the Pats would go after, including Cam Newton (if they need him). Tons of safeties, cbs, and the very top DLs. Some of those might slip down in price just because of demand, which would make them attractive to BB, but why would he pay top $$ to a safety or a cornerback at this time? Or a tackle (particularly if Cannon is coming back)? I also notice that Andrews isn't on that list, and I think BB will try to keep him.

I could see BB going after Milano or some other LB (not LaVonte David, who's staying in Tampa, likely). A couple of the receivers on that list - Davis and Samuel, maybe (Rashad Higgins isn't on it).

If he was going to make a huge splash on a player, a guy like Leonard Williams might be the one. But he'll probably grab seven or eight potential finds - guys coming off rookie deals, I hope (stay young).

The Belichickian solution is to bring in Jacoby Brissett for 12-15M and use the extra money to pick up a professional blocking TE and build up our front 7 defensively. Abandon the high powered offensive style we don't have the personnel for anyway. Build our offense around the run with Harris, Michel and White. Focus on controlling time of possession and clock management to minimize opponent's ability to possess the ball and use the run to set up opportunities for the limited passing game.

They essentially cut him in 2017, trading him for Dorsett when both players were bubble roster players. You’ve posted this same idea many times without addressing the elephant in the room. If they felt he could be the team’s quarterback, or even a backup, he’d be a roster lock and they’d have carried three QBs with Garoppolo on the trading block.

They’re not paying anything for a guy they spent the 90th pick on, and then dumped after one season.

Must admit this is giving me some concern. Just based on the posts on the forum there is so many options and all of them are bad depending on who you believe.....lol. It does not matter who the team selects as QB as it is never going to please everyone. I guess at the end of the day it is results that count so we will just have to wait and see.

I'm not an X's and O's expert at all, so this is mostly based on tidbits I've read here and there. But I don't think their system is entirely unique, it's just a variation of the Erhardt-Perkins (sp?) system. I think their ability to find wide receivers who fit it might be a bit overblown, but even if it isn't, this past year was a weird situation. I like McDaniels (looks over shoulder for DropKickFlutie...), but it's been a while since he's had to worry about explaining the basics of that system to a QB on an accelerated basis. He's had Brady, who he needed to work with but didn't need to be taken to EP 101. Backup QB's could be brought along slowly because you didn't expect them to be playing in week 1 of year 1.

I think they did scale the system back a bit for Cam, they just were never really able to ramp it back up due to him missing time (and likely not being able to make all the reads/throws in general). But the advantage to a complicated system is, once you have guys that CAN run it, it becomes much harder to gameplan against, because it can adapt to whatever that gameplan is once the QB and coaches have a chance to see it. I think that's why the Pats have typically started slow but finished strong in Super Bowls. Guys are thinking a lot on a stage where you need to play with supremely high energy, and the opposition has had two weeks to come up with their best scheme to counter you. But once Brady, BB, and McD/Weis had chances to see what the defense was doing, they would dominate.

All this said, it's not time to abandon the system yet, but I'm sure it will need to be simplified for whoever the new QB is again. Just hopefully this time they can grow into it better as the year goes on.

Times change. When team traded Brissett, TFB was the QB. Now, Stidham is QB1.

Brissett has more experience now. With a good running offense he may be able to do better than Cam did. The only reason to consider him is his familiarity with the NEP offense. We've seen WRs and TEs having difficulty understanding the offense. Imagine how much more complicated it must be for a QB.

I'd hate to waste another year with another QB that doesn't get it. We've been lucky for the previous 19 years, and the main reason for the dynasty imo, of having one franchise QB for the entire time. People talk about this QB or that QB as if this is a plug and play offense. We know better.

Nonsense. They traded him for something they needed at the time. Dorsett for Brissett was each team trading an excess part to fill a gap in their roster.

I think Brissett is the only young QB that wouldn't take 10-12 games (with a losing record) to figure out the offense. I wouldn't want to pay more than $10M though.

IIRC he made 15M last year, which these days is less than half of an A1 starter salary.

Those first 3 wins were based on Brady being clutch at key times, yes, but also an elite defense fantastic special teams play, and a solid rushing attack to fill in the gaps in the young QB's game.

The Colts went out of their way to announce that they saw Brissett's contract as being a brand new $30M/2yr deal that replaced the final year of his contract, but that's never how any other contract is evaluated so I'm not sure how they (mostly) got away with it. It was a one year, $28 million extension regardless of whatever spin they want to put on it.
