I think Godwin is gone. Tyler Johnson will be in year two and is a very similar receiver. He runs mostly the same routes. I doubt they’ll bring Barrett back, too.
Do you think JJ would fit, be effective on that D?

Leonard Fournette said that when Jacksonville waived him, the first person he heard from was Tom Brady. I wonder if Tom and JJ have already talked.

Referencing that PFF list above...

Chris Godwin.
Unless Brady feels that Godwin is truly that special, it makes little sense to pay him market. His PFF grade from about 90+ in 2019 to 75. I love him as a player but don't see this as a good move at all. He'll be likely be one of the few (top shelf) players who likely won't have a depresed market due to the cap, while there are so many other options likely to be bargains or willing to do prove it deals to play with Brady and compete. But also, they have so many good skill players: Evans, Miller, Brate, Howard, and two very promising young players in Miller and Johnson. Pass. I think that finding a James White type (perhaps White himself if still has gas in the tank) would greatly reduce the net effect of losing Godwin...and it would cost pennies on the dollar.
Godwin's the chain mover. He's the Edelman/Welker/Brown. Brown's history makes it dangerous to rely on him as the primary in such a role. I'm not saying that they need to go with a "Godwin or bust!" approach, but they do have to have a backup plan for that role if they're not going to bring him back.

If they get Watt. They will have one of the best defensive leaders of all time.

I wonder if they’ll let both Godwin and Barrett walk, or choose one or the other.

It wasn't Brady that reached out to Fournette. That is a pure lie. Both Licht and BA said Brady has no say in personnel matters.

It was their new Assistant to the Assistant Traveling Secretary they hired who has been working the phones part time and making calls on behalf of Licht.

I keep saying barrett’s fools gold. He has taken advantage of having a big body vea on the d-line.

How is that fools gold he was ranked 14 without Vae with Vae he’s an all pro player. I just don’t get the point of paying Godwin when you’re so deep at WR

He had 5 sacks total without vea. Just 16 quarterbacks hits total. Go look at his stats before he came to Tampa. He didn’t do much in Denver.

Wouldn’t shock me if they let both go. They can find a Barrett through the draft or on the market. Some stupid team will pay this guy 17 million thinking he’s a great pass rusher which he is not.

They wanna keep Godwin. Wouldn’t shock me if the Bucs went out and traded for Beckham if they let Godwin go. His contract is very friendly.

Why trade for Odell why! They’d have Evans, AB, Miller, and Johnson if Godwin left that’s a great group of WR. Trading for Odell is espn talk

They need to get gronkowski back. Howard will be coming back from a torn achilles. I think brady likes Godwin though but the guy might asked for the moon.

I doubt Tom would stick his nose in defense personnel.

Actually letting Barret go and getting a decent edge rusher at half the cost makes sense as well

What about re-signing Brown, signing James White, and signing Amendola? I'm thinking Amendola and White wouldn't cost more than $7M combined. Then they have a lot of guys who can move the chains...albeit not as consistently as Godwin. But they would have even more combinations and matchup options. Kontra is high on Tyler Johnson, OJ Howard is returning, and Scotty Miller might be a lot better rounded next year.

I don't think Godwin is a bad signing by any means. I just think TB is in a spot where they have a whole bunch of promising Plan Bs.

In the end, I think this will all come down to Brady. He isn't going to demand the team resigns anyone who he likes at all and understands that not everyone can get paid. If he thinks Godwin is that great, I'm sure Godwin will be back. So whatever happens, I'll feel good about the decision.

It’s all so familiar.

Tom: "We're coming back, baby." I can see it.

Looking at the 2021 team schedules for the NFC, GB has one of the toughest (0.522) strength of schedules (SOS) having to face 8 playoff teams this season. They had the easiest (0.428) SOS in 2020 and the reason they ended up as the #1 seed. It's no coincidence the 4 teams with the easiest SOS ended up as the top 4 seeds.

In 2021? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the easiest (0.451) SOS of the top ten NFC teams. They face the fewest playoff teams (5) along with NO and WFT. I can see how they get the #1 seed and HFA. Championship game goes through Tampa, where they win to again reach the SB. If they win, Bucs would be the 1st team to win back-to-back SBs since Brady did it and would be the most amazing thing ever in modern sports, for a guy like Brady to accomplish. Is this pure luck, sheer talent, or did he sell his soul to the devil?

Tampa has bigger concerns right now

First, a disclaimer: I'm just analyzing/speculating/guessing on a lot of this

Second: I think Brady went through 2018 and 2019, and he's had enough of dealing with dubious WR groups. That seemed pretty clearly established (to me) when he angled for the addition of AB even though he already had Evans/Godwin/Miller/Johnson.

Now, if you tell me that Edelman's getting cut, Brady's seen him running and cutting recently, and Brady thinks JE is good to go, I'm thinking that's a good alternative.

Right now, though, I'm thinking Brady wants what he's got now, which is multiple deep threats (Evans, Miller) and multiple chain movers (Brown, Godwin). He might even want an upgrade/addition to Johnson as the WR5/possible WR6 , to cover for another injury riddled season like the one they just had.

Do you think JJ would fit, be effective on that D?
He’d be a fit. How effective he will be depends on how his body holds up.

That’s a very good point.
