BGC 2021 LB/PTP Thread

Zaven Collins as a D Hightower replacement looks compelling. I will never forget Hightower stoning Seahawks RB Beastmode to set up the miraculous INT by M Butler in the SB

And he did it with one working. shoulder. One of the great individual plays in Patriot history.

Is Z Collins a warrior monster LB like Hightower? They’re both monsters, that’s sure.

Lots of intriguing possibilities with Z Collins as Joe Macri’s twitter page attests.

Collins never looks lost according to Macri and is able to make impacts on every play, particularly in shutting down the screen pass.

What a wonderful possible addition to our defense! Collins as our new Collins—except he’s likely a first-rounder.

BC's Max Roberts looked good in the Hula Bowl. Not the top tier of competition but still he flashed and was impactful. I liked the QB from Central Michigan, but he was about the Kellen Mond level and I'm not to excited about him. Didn't care for any of the other QB's in the Hula. There were a couple that will get talked about prior to the draft, Costello and White, but they are way below Stidham for me.

If Bill by some miracle fixes the QB position for at least the immediate future, then I can absolutely see him using our 1st-rounder - preferably after a small trade-down to help re-acquire a 3rd - on Collins, who would soon make everyone forget the Horrible mistake that was/is Anfernee Jennings.

Did anybody on the patriots scouting staff think to ask winovich if he would actually commit to setting the edge on running plays before we drafted him?

after watching winovich for two years, my guess is the answer is no!

move him inside

Question I am asking too.
@TheRazorsEdge

I was a little off on Collins. I feel like I'm always a bit conservative when it comes to this stuff. Top 30 player instead of top 50. He'll be LB1 on a lot of boards. Always knew he'd be in play but was a little off as to where.

I keep coming back to him b/c of his size and Belichick's quotes on "you can't coach size" or "you don't find many humans never mind football players who can move at that size" or something to that tune.

Really intrigues me as the one to replace Hightower on the D going forward into the future.

6'3-260 and he doesn't have sand in the pants???
Absolutely not. You see him disengaging to stuff the run when getting picked by a guard and tackle (assuming he’s lining up as a 3-tech)? Sure you don’t. Neither do I. If he could do it, Belichick would have lined him up there with regularity at some point in his career.

I think that you misunderstood what was meant by "move him inside". You aren't moving Winovich INSIDE to DT. Certainly not the 3-Tech. An inside move would be to ILB. An almost identical move to what Tedy Bruschi did.

If that’s the case then I’m fine with the move. We need to get a fat ass in front of him to eat up two blockers, though. That’s the #2 priority of the offseason, IMO.

Thank you. That is what I meant. Been pushing that since (?), there was a game where BB had him playing all over and he was making plays all over the field. Open up his area of play. Once in each millenium I am right, hoping for this one.

Heh. I was like “wow he’s usually better than this. Is he out of his mind wanting to kick Wino inside to DT!?” Glad it was cleared up for me.

After watching bb dance in free agency for the past four days, I have a really bad feeling that bb is zeroing in on J.O.K. Of notre dame in the first round of the draft.

Im hoping that isn’t the case. JOKE seems a little lighter than what BB typically goes for but maybe he is trying to bring some more athleticism to the group. I’m hoping that if we’re not trading up for one of the top qbs this year that parsons falls to us. I think he can be a pro bowler for sure if he keeps it together off the field. I just don’t know if there is much of a need for him with kvn and Hightower back and uche being drafted last year.
