Curran: Patriots will be "extremely and uncharacteristically" aggressive in Free Agency

OK, so now the real Patriots season starts, and this team is going to be competing for the AFC Championship.

Let's start spending that money. Chris Godwin, come on down!!!

Not happening
Godwin is staying in Tampa
Evans said he would take a cut to keep the team intact as is.
The winning Brady effect.

Zero chance Evans takes a pay cut. Extension to lower his cap number, sure. Godwin isn't leaving, they'll franchise him if necessary. Tons of good FA and draft WR this year, though.

Tampa has some big FAs (David, Gronk, Brown, Fournette, Godwin, Barrett) and 24m...BUT, they'll extnd Brady for two years and drop that 25m hit by 10 m. That team will be pretty much intact next year.

I think Godwin is a number 2 that will be paid like a number 1.
He was their best receiver last year and would have been their best receiver again this year without the injuries

I don't know who we will target but I have never been a big fan of Godwin. He is fast but outside of that..meh. Just keep Byrd.

I agree. Godwin is good, not great IMO. Someone said he wanted $16M+ per year. Crazy money in the down market.

Don't care what Ariens says, it won't happen. As part of an extension that lowers his salary (with big signing bonus, sure). Saying it the morning after means nothing.

Reiss is getting in on the aggressive predictions too.

Offseason in three or fewer words: Belichick's Revenge Tour
It's time for the Patriots, who went 7-9 in their first year post-Tom Brady and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008, to get aggressive in improving the talent across the roster -- especially at quarterback, receiver and tight end. Just as Bill Belichick took an aggressive approach in the 2007 offseason, adding receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker, he's expected to be aggressive in that area this offseason, as well.

Because he’s a veteran in his early 30s and he would be a major upgrade to what we have now
Dude hes a 1yr deal vet min guy. Thats fine when we already have 1-2 playmakers but we don't have that.

If hes part of a broader strategy then ok.

Getting Randy Moss and Wes Welker wasn't aggressive though- Moss's value actually lowered in 2006 because of his play in Oakland, and Welker was not a big name free agent either.
