NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION OFFICIAL Super Bowl Bucs/Chiefs Game Thread

The ones who will always hate Bill and the Pats. I actually think 49 vs the Legion of Boom was his very best
That and 28-3.

The analysts are already starting to talk about SB 55 being Brady's greatest achievement.

I mean who cares, but from a certain POV I see it. Not really, but kinda.

Literally the only way Brady could change his legacy for the better was to win without Belichick, and he did it, in the most dominant win of his career, while playing really well personally (3 TD, no turnovers, 125+ passer rating). Meanwhile the Pats went 7-9 without him and missed the playoffs for the first time since the last time Brady didn't start a season for the Pats. And of course he put down another pretender to his throne while 43 years old. It's just an insane capstone to his career.

That said 28-3 is just his signature Super Bowl without any doubt whatsoever. The win itself was Beyond the Impossible, and it gave him the most Super Bowl wins ever.

Someone will have to explain to me what the in actual **** Andy Reid was thinking calling timeouts before halftime to sustain Tampa’s drive. I mean, that was one of the most baffling things I’ve seen in a Super Bowl. I could understand calling the first one after they stopped TB on 1st down, but after that wtf?

Even if they’d gotten the ball back, the Chiefs would have had a better chance of an interception of strip sack than driving down the field in 45 seconds with a handful of big plays.

Going into halftime with a 14-6 deficit, all things considered, would have been almost a moral victory. If Reid hadn’t called those TOs, I doubt Tampa scores there and certainly not a TD.

That was insane, but they were also huddling up and burning clock while down 3 scores until like the middle of the 4th. Some real bad game management there.

everybody wipe your chins before climbing back into brady's underwear

He did the same thing vs Brady in the AFCCG and got burned with the TD to Dorsett. Not only stupid, but a repeat offender

Can't sleep so may as well post! 5 thoughts on this game I don't think are being mentioned enough.

1 - Brady's impact on this game. While it was clearly a team win and the defense deserves all the praise it is getting, Brady played a great game and was firmly in control most of the way. He often got the ball out quickly. Part of it was due to design but part of it was him making reads. He didn't make a single bad pass this game. That Int that was turned over by a penalty was fluky. So I'm glad he didn't get nailed for it. Some moments not being talked about enough this game by Brady. Before that 3rd TD pass Brady was yelling at the sideline to keep the same personel in after KC's last timeout. He certainly felt he could exploit something, and was proven right. Another big play is when he fell on that high snap as opposed to trying to make something happen. Once he was in control of the game he never even gave it the chance to get away from him. He passed 20 times in the first half and 9 in the second. He made plays in the second half when needed, but he let the game come to him otherwise once in control. It wasn't flashy, but people who understand the game will see it as the master class of slowly strangling the other team to death. He would have had 4 TDs if Haeg didn't drop one, and maybe even 5 if not for the bad snap which stalled a drive. The final two drives they were more focused trying to bleed clock than score. Even if the Buc's D didn't do what it did tonight, Brady and this offense could have possibly scored 40 if they really needed to the way they were playing.

2 - Kelce's impact felt empty. Kelce had 10 catches for 133 yards. And it led to very little. This is something opposing teams need to look at carefully next year. Kelce gets open, but he isn't explosive. Letting KC get the ball in Kelce's hand is clearly the much better of the two options. They also gave him special attention on 3rd down. I talked a lot about this before the game. That Kelce is their 3rd down guy. They realized that and played him tight those downs and were fine to let him feast on less meaningful ones if it meant making sure Hill or Hardman couldn't get behind them. This is a blueprint the rest of the league should look at very closely. I think there may be something to it. Not that it will shut down KC typically, but I think this is the way every team should play them.

3 - Special Teams - The Bucs dominated this part of the game. Pringle had a good 41 yard return, but it wasn't back breaking. And perhaps even more importantly, why the heck was he returning punts? Why not put the ball in the hands of Hardman or Hill? Stupid! Townstead had 2 very bad punts and they didn't help the KC cause. Both FG kickers were perfect. That offsides stands out big time on 4th down. This is twice against Brady KC's committed a huge off sides penalty. It won't get the spotlight it deserves in hindsight, but it was big in the first half.

4 - KC's LBs need an upgrade - They have been bad since 2019. They were slapped around tonight big time. If the Bucs meet KC again, I don't see them not being able to impliment a similar offensive game plan if they have the vast majority of the same personnel. Keep in mind, the KC D was healthy in this game. This was their A team, and while it is certainly good in certain spots, this is a problem they need to fix. As they are now, if they play TB again next year in the super bowl with the same issue I don't see how TB shouldn't be considered the favorite again all things being equal.

5 - The Bucs interior held up really well vs Jones. This was the best match up KC had on paper against the Bucs O. Some back up vs Chris Jones. was damn near invisible all game. And yet he is lost in the mix. He absolutely deserves some heat. Imagine the boost it would have given KC while down if Jones beat that back up to get a strip sack on Brady. It could have turned the game around, and he had a match up he should have been able to exploit to do it. Chris Jones deserves a ton of blame for his under performance.

PS: Godwin needs to be thought over carefully by the Bucs. He had a bad run these playoffs, got injured a fair amount this year, not unlike last year. And most importantly Brady and him aren't syncing up enough. They've had some very nice plays at times, but this year has not worked out nearly as well as they hoped. If I was the Bucs, I would have a serious discussion about if they are trying to perhaps force a square peg in a round hole or if it was just truly a fluky year. It is a big decision for them with huge cap ramifications.
I dont know if anyone saw but there as moment in the broadcast where brady was yelling at the sideline telling them what is the play they should run and vetoing what they were saying. It was awesome. And yes the brady of 2001 wouldnt do it so he got a lot of what he did yesterday in NE. The whole offensive plan was more patriots yesterday than bucs of 2020.

Brady is incredible.

One minor thing but I doubt there's a blue print on KC. I didn't realize they were missing both starting offensive tackles. That's a huge factor.

Look who was at the SB last night. With A-Rod and Aaron Judge. Nobody with masks. WTF

They may all be vaccinated or already had it anyway. If it’s in a private suite & they’re all ok with each other not wearing em’- who cares.

Andy Reid was not himself yesterday. You would have to think that the young girl clinging to her life because of his son was on his mind.

I think it's tough to declare Andy was not 100% focused but if my kid drove drunk and their negligence led to a little girl in a coma clinging to life by a thread there is no way I would be functioning normally.

It's impossible.

What was up with Brady chasing down Mathieu and screaming at him?

Brady is a notorious trash talker, as many players have mentioned over the years. I'm sure the two were going back and forth all game. Very uncharacteristic of him to chase Mattieu down though. He easily could have gotten an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for that.

Great game. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Chefs, their fans and the Brady haters can go back under the rocks they crawled out from under.

If Brady wasn't playing I probably would not have paid attention, however.

It would have been nice to have one of the 9 Patriots-Brady Super Bowls be a blow-out stress free win. Someday?

Happy for Brady and Gronk. Good for them. Sad to see them go but I am at peace with it. After all those big wins for 19-years, I am good. Since I was around for all the losing years I have a different perspective than some of the (younger) fans.

I was wrong about PM overcoming his JV offensive line. Not for lack of effort though.

The accident happened, what, 2 days before the SB? There was literally no time to mentally adjust from that.

Yep. Zero.

Some people have an incredible capacity to compartmentalize and have this inhuman ability to focus. Maybe Andy is that kind of person. Christ he was oblivious to a ****ton of drugs lying around his house to who knows.

It is possible the time he took to deal with the issue might have taken away from game prep. Plus they were short-staffed because his Drugstore Cowboy son decided he needed to get drunk and high as opposed to helping the Chiefs win.
