Other than $ why would UFA choose NE over other suitors?

Not everyone hates winter.
Agree
When I crave Winter Darkness Depression, I rush back to New England for a 4 month dose of the good life

Jesus.

Belichick can't recruit talent.

Belichick has to overpay.

Belichick has an ego.

No one wants to come here.

Belichick is cheap.

Belichick is no better of a coach than Andy Reid.
Don't forget to mention the blatant nepotism that now infects the coaching ranks

Everyone including Miguel is assuming $176M.

The players can only sign the deal they are offered. In a down market with the supply much greater than the demand, the ability of the player to demand the type of deal they want is greatly diminished. Teams will be offering 2 to 3 year deals at a minimum I would guess.

I think it’s gonna be in the 180s. We shall see. Either way we will see some good players being cut. I just can’t see bill overpaying for certain players.

It's clear you certainly are not a believer in BB.

Might as well of had Barry Switzer coach the last 20 years.

Kenneth Sims is probably a pseudonym for one of the beat writers. They take it personally when BB does not answer their questions.

Speaking of sports writers, I think Curran is on a personal mission to take Bill out.

Why would BB overpay when the supply is greater than the demand? Why would BB overpay when prices are dropping? BB will most certainly not overpay and he will sign a bunch of FAs.

Neither do I. But I can see him paying market rate for them, especially in a down market and getting some good deals.

Has been for 5 to 10 years. Now that his source, Brady and Yee, have no inside info Curran is scrambling with all kinds of stories. No-one believes that anyone working for BB is talking to Curran. He shot his wad. That was his choice.

agreed

this year's FA is going to be loaded with players......vets who cost too much, who are going to be cut and have a chip on their shoulder

it's like this FA was made for bill

And it is not a coincidence that the Patriots amazing have a LOT of salary cap space this year. That was expertly managed. BB playing chess.

That would make a lot of sense. Perfect fit.

You talk about Austin Hooper signing for a team that had Mayfield, Beckham and Landry compare to Stidham, Meyers and Byrd?

I don’t remember too many offensive weapons going to the Browns when Hoyer was the QB.

Before, we criticized all off-season long those bad teams that were overpaying top players with contract that would bit them in th *ss after 2-3 years. The point is the Patriots are in this position now. If we want talent on this team we will need to overpay drastically and offer contracts that will maybe bite us in the *ss in the futur.

this team is not really attractive as of now

LOL! Go be a Jets fan then. One bad season and our fans have become a bunch of crybaby losers.

The Pats don't need to overpay drastically. Even the worst teams in who are consistently bad teams don't have to overpay drastically.

Did you watch Mayfield in 2019? One more year like that and the Browns might have been calling the Patriots for Stidham's availability. He was awful. This year he was just average.

The Pats could add say Ryan Fitzpatrick in free agency and players will probably feel that the Pats are good enough to be a playoff contender short term until they develop someone because that is how Fitzmagic works. He plays like a top 10 QB for a year, maybe two before he turns into garbage again.

When the Defense returns next year from the one year exile it's a playoff caliber team on one side of the ball. Offense is a train wreck though

According to a vocal portion of this forum, no decent free agent in the history of the NFL has ever signed with a team that was not already one of the top super bowl contenders - despite evidence being provided to the contrary.

Perhaps this is due to the influence on their opinions by local sports talk radio that I refuse to listen to?

California has Hollywood, beaches, and women that don’t look like pale wildebeests with jacked up, yellow teeth. If you’re going to pay higher taxes as a millionaire superstar athlete, you can at least go to the cities with the better-looking trim.
we're talking about new england here not old england....i live in san diego and can look outside my window at anytime and see some of the fattest ugliest women you've ever seen so i think everywhere has all types of women...

Allow me to thump my chest on this one - Amendola confirms what I've been saying for quite some time, its all Brady. No one wants to play for the Patriots - no one. Speaking generally, 90% of these NFL players going into the 2021 season have been coddled by their parents, their schools, their systems. Remember - many of these kids probably went to high school in an age where it is not politically correct to discipline kids. they get away with EVERYTHING. Why, pray tell, would these kids want to play for a disciplinarian head coach when instead you could play for a buffoon like Arians, a rah rah clown like McVay, or an uber player's coach like Andy Reid. Those are just a few examples. Do we need to go over Coach Bill's and Bill the GM's record in Cleveland? His drafts were absolutely terrible (REMINDER HE DRAFTED A FULL BACK IN THE FIRST ROUND), won zero division titles, and had a well below .500 career record.
Bill the GM has put together a bottom 5 roster as it stands now. I will argue that despite what some think, Bill the GM is NOT going to make s big "splash" in FA. I'm not saying he's not going to spend all of Krafty Bob's $ available, but he's not going to do it signing "big name" free agents. He will take the approach he takes with the draft - acquire 4 or 5 jag defensive backs, linebackers, receivers, etc. Bill does this to see what sticks. He figures there's more value in $20M worth of contracts for 5 guys as opposed to 1 guy bc you can keep 1 guy and dump 4 guys and save some $ on the cap. You'll see Bill the GM acquire 3 or 4 guys at each position of need - all Bldg 19 type guys.
Admittedly, the Bldg 19 approach worked for the first iteration of the Patrios dynasty with guys like Bobby Hamilton, O T I S Smith, Marc Edwards, David Patten, Vrabel, Cox, Antowain Smith, Phifer, and the list goes on. That's some pretty good success at signing cast offs. Bill the GM signed some guys in 2000/2001 for some cheap $ contracts bc no one wanted these guys and thought they were washed up or square pegs in a round hole.
The big question is can Bill the GM have a couple of drafts and free agency periods like he did in 2000-2003? My money says no because his recent history of all player acquisition is no better than a D grade.

sounds like a bumper sticker
Lot's of other things are important. Clearly, money is most important. If a 28 year old QB is offered $5M a year more, it is not all clear that money will be most important.
That is your instinct, but it’s not supported by history.
You would be hard pressed to find guys who have accepted $5 mill a year less to go to one team over another. At any position.
Players are generally insulted by any offer below the highest one they get.

This is an issue in the NBA right now too. Players control the league and basically don't want to be coached or disciplined. They want to be coddled and "have fun". You have guys like Kyrie irving who just takes off for "personal time" because he needs a mental break.

Imagine that going on in MJs era? I do think it is creeping into the NFL where guys want a "fun coach"

So you get these guys like the new guy in detroit who is an idiot. But he can rally the troops and have fun! But those coaches rarely win or it's short fleeted.

Eagles already fired "fun Doug pederson" and Pete carroll has come back to earth
