Michael Onwenu

Onwenu is good, but he can't play two positions.

Plus, if they get rid of Cannon, then arguably they have enough money to keep Thuney.
They have enough money to keep Thuney regardless of what happens with Cannon. They'll have between $50M-65M in free cap space prior to anything that goes on with the players who opted out.

Bye Cannon and Thuney.
Why do you think that THUNEY is a goner? Onwenu isn't better than him yet. And Eleumenor hasn't shown he can hold up at LT much at all. Herron is the likely SWING tackle next year.

Again, Having THUNEY move to Center with Onwenu at LG and Herron at RT would be one of the best O-lines the Pats have fielded in the Belichick era. And that includes when they had Light, Andreuzzi, Koppen, and Neal on the line.

I initially thought that too, but BB will Franchise Thuney again as it is cheaper than last year.

If Andrews makes the Pro Bowl, he'll be gone.

Cannon probably retires.

If Cannon wants to play, I’d certainly take him. But he’d need to be willing to play at a reduced price since you can’t count on a full season out of him. If not, he’s had one hell of a career and got a nice pay day out of it.

I, in all of my infinite f.ucking wisdom, thought we should move him to DT before the season.

I did too. Still would love to see it ONCE in goal line defense after the off season of bulking up.

Onwenu is elite. Why stick him at LG when he can play RT at a high level. Put Wynn at LT and Onwenu at RT. Also David Andrews is leading pro bowl voting at center so not sure why he's being dropped.

Because the PRO-BOWL is nothing but a popularity contest and has been for more than 2 decades.

The thinking of putting Onwenu at LG instead of RT makes zero sense. RT is a far more valuable position. I like Thuney but it's not great to sink a ton of $ into a guard position.

Less cap space too. Just don't see him returning.

What do you mean by "less cap space"? The Patriots have the 4th most space going into next season at the projected $175M. They'll have somewhere in the neighborhood of 63M with 45 players signed. That number jumps to 78M if Hightower and Cannon both retire.

Let's not pretend like BB hasn't spent money on the O-line previously because he has.. And Thuney is better than Light or Mankins were..

Bedard recently projected $80-$90 in cap space so they have plenty of money. This will piss Thuney off, but I see BB tagging him again as the tag number drops 10% from last year. Thuney will probably reject any offer Bill gives him.

I do not believe Bedard. BB is not tagging him for $18m for 2021. At 29 years old they will let him walk if he won't come to terms

Tag is $13M this year which will be less than last year. Not sure if applying the Tag again will have an increase like prior years due to COVID. If not, BB will tag him as it's cheap.

This is incorrect. A second franchise tag in 2021 will be 120% of Thuney's 2020 cap number of $14.781M. $14.781M times 1.2 = $17.737M

Do you think this guy plays guard or tackle over the next years? Doesn't it make sense to set his position in stone as they sure require different training..

After watching our line closely the past few weeks, I agree with this. The interior of our line with Owenu/Thuney/Mason would be sick...If Wynn can stay healthy, he is an All Pro Caliber Tackle. The only question mark is the RT position and I would see how the completion between Herron and Eleumenor plays out. With that line though, it has the potential to be one of the top 2 or 3 lines in the league.

He also played Center for a few games and played really well. In fact, I'd say when he was pairing up with Mason and Owenu in the interior, our running game was better than it was at any time of the year.
