Cam is not the Answer

When on the last 4th down play to likely win/lose the game the ball is snapped and in less than a second Cam is evading one rusher and then has 3 more on his ass within 4 seconds, that's on the line
Not necessarily. There is going to be a free rusher in cover 0. That also leaves the defense exposed. Gotta do something with that.

It's not that he has not found that guy in one year, it's that he had 3 years since he traded Jimmy to try to find the guy and all he did was draft Etling and Stidham. That is the issue. Brady was 40, 41, 42 and Bill did nothing at the QB spot. That is where the frustration lies.

he probably hasn’t seen anybody he feels fit to draft for it. Bb is not perfect by any means , but one thing hes shown to me is he wont take someone in an area of need just to draft that position. Wrong or right, pretty sure hes been fully aware of the need to groom someone but in the past 3 years stidham is the only one he saw worth going after.

I disagree, hell Brady WON a SB with a WR cast of who’s who WR’s in 2001 (Troy Brown was the only good receiver on the roster). And that’s just one example. I’m sure I could find many more.
And he was basically playing like Cam number wise this year. The difference, he was clutch.

That's fine for other positions but you can't do that QB. It is the most important position on the team. Bill said when he drafted Jimmy that it is better to be early at the QB position than late. I honestly have no idea why he let the position get to this point.

You can disagree all you want but facts are facts. Even on those teams Brady wasnt throwing to a bunch of UDFA's. Cam spread the ball to 8 different receivers. 5 had multiple catches and he did not turn the ball over. What's the defenses excuse for not getting to the QB and giving up 27 points to a 2-7 football team?

Or the fact that Harris only had 11 Carries for 40 yards against the NFLs worst rush defense?
The 2-7 team has talent on offense Cooks, Fuller rings a Bell? And Watson is probably a top 5 QB in this league. The D did not play great but they weren’t playing Darnold also

There were still people holding out hope until now?

what have you been watching the rest of the time

When the Pats compete again for a trophy, it will be several years down the road. Most of this roster will be gone. At what position do we have the answer?

Watching rivers play, you can tell how bad cam is looking. Cam was not the only issue , but boy his throws were terrible. I would sign cam as a backup or a tank qb ... If we want to compete , better to move away from cam...Even brisett would be better..

I understand the frustration but again maybe he just hasn’t seen a qb within drafting reach that he’s comfortable with. By contrast, weve had a wr issue for 3 seasons now . He spent our 1st rounder last year, took a chance on ab, and traded another 2nd so pretty considerable resources there but it didn’t work at that spot either. He’ll need to do better on both soon to make the offense top flight again. But I wouldn’t consider any of it a negligence or anything , more of miscalculation. But it happens

The Seahawks were good but lacked the most important player on the team and they found Wilson.

The Chiefs were good and they won some games and made the postseason, but just could not close the deal until Mahomes.

Its been so many years where the Pats havent needed a QB that people have forgotten what its really like not to have one. The arguing and division over Bledsoe was legendary. All Ashley can do is ban me from the threads for expressing the truth. I dont like it anymore than you men and women but that is where we are.
On the flip side the Colts had Luck, the Chargers had Rivers and they didn’t win anything. Pats will be them at best if they “tanked” for a QB like many wanted to do.

They need more than that to be elite again.

Not just his struggles with throws in the flats or in the grass. He doesn’t recognize fronts or coverages, doesn’t have pocket feel, etc. He will never moves safeties with his eyes or fakes. Looks frequently baffled.

this is the concerning part. Outside of maybe the run game i cant look at any part of this team and say its an area we can count on while working on improving the biggest weaknesses. What we thought was a strong secondary is getting lit up regularly and suddenly look old. I hope to see SOMETHING over the last 6 games that can fix those concerns and improve the odds of fielding a somewhat complete team next year.

The Titans "tanked" and were fortunately able to secure can't miss, future HOF Marcus Mariotta with the #2 pick. Years later they found themselves that dreaded "treadmill team" with 4 straight 9-7 seasons knowing that it was impossible to ever improve their fortunes. Somehow with a 2nd round RB and a journeyman QB they appear to be a serious contender for back to back AFCCG appearances. Pats clearly need a QB - Cam could improve enough next year to offer them enough to be serious contenders or they could find someone via FA or later in the draft.

I've seen enough. Newton is the polar opposite of the type of QB that will excel in the Pats O. We don't need a big arm. We don't need athleticism. We don't need a QB that kisses BB's ass. We need a QB that makes quick decisions and throws with accuracy. Did BB forget about his scouting report from 1991?

#1 is to make good decisions. Then arm, size, physicality, tough, leadership, guy other guys look up to and have confidence in, a real competitor. An emphasis in our game will be decision, timing, accuracy, guy needs to be confident, intelligence is important but not as much as field awareness & judgement. Can't be sloppy fundamentally, unsound guy with ball handling, tech, etc. Footwork, drops, release, etc. - QB has to throw the ball with accuracy.

I'd rather see the team go 2-14 & draft Lawrence than propel the franchise into perpetual mediocracy with Cam. This Cam thing isn't going to work & I can't watch another week of this BS.

Belichick needs to erase whatever crap McDaniels overwrote in the scouting criteria and go back to Belichick and his dad's scouting methods. Our WR/TE/QB criteria is all screwed up.

.

Newton is a sartorial superstar who could be benched for Stidham, who had a higher ceiling as a pocket passer.

Since Cam did not contribute even remotely, what were the reasons?

It is one of the best OLines in the NFL. How good does the OLine have to be? The Texans line is much worse. How much responsibility is on Cam for not adjusting blitz pickup, holding the ball too long, and not stepping up to set his feet and deliver an accurate throw?

I agree that Cam is most likely the best option, but how do you know that Stidham is a bust after 27 snaps in the NFL?

Stidham is a bust. Period. Nobody's thrown 4 INTs in their first 27 throws like him and became a good QB. The only one close is Favre threw 2 picks in his first game then didn't throw a pick for 100 throws. Not like Stidham who throws a pick every time he plays. Stidham is an interception machine.

.

How many f'n balls in the dirt? How many balls did JJ Watt knock down? Ho many times did he fail to set his feet before throwing? How many times did Cam hold the ball more than 5 seconds? It was a pathetic performance. Brutal.

And yet he hit 65% of passes for 365 yards and 10 yards a throw. And besides the 3 covid games he's a 75% passer. He isn't elite but way better than anything else we had in May.

Crazy to think that the only FA QBs who've won a SB in the last 30 years are [PManning - per Doctor DDS - also forgot DBrees], Dilfer and BJohnson (someone pls correct me if I'm missing anyone), with Dilfer the only one who wasn't a "big time" free agent (Favre was the only one who was traded). Not to say it won't happen again soon, but it's weird.
