I agree with you. I wish we could stop talking about Brady. In retrospect it seems Brady tapped out after the Eagles Super Bowl and became more Brady centric than Patriots. We had to move on from him sometime and personally the time was right.

It couldn't possibly be any more clear that he did not want to be here, and he left undeniably and completely by his own choice. That's a stone cold fact not an opinion. And he had every right to do so.

So the noise and the awful takes about Belichick pushing him out can stop now and thank goodness for that.

You feel liberated not to be held back by a pure pocket passer?

Kinda weird. I used to feel liberated when that pure pocket passer had us top 5 every year points scored and not sitting down at 27 where we are now.
We Pats fans have been very spoiled over the last two decades. No fanbase in sports will ever again experience what we just experienced.

I completely disagree with that. Yes, Brady left by his own choice if you mean that Bill didn’t cut him or trade him. But in my opinion, that’s about it.

Bill made him so miserable the last 3 years that at the end he decide to leave. Bill by his behaviors towards Brady, pushed him out the door. It is not hard to comprehend.

It is like a relationship where one side wants to breakup but doesn’t want to be the one to do it. So you do everything in your power to make the other person break up. And I think it is exactly what Bill did.

Bill didn’t want Brady anymore but he didn’t want to be responsible also in case Brady like this year played at an elite level

That would have merit imo if Bill deliberately went out of his way to make Brady miserable and get him to leave. There's no evidence at all of that. Curran (who is no Bill apologist) even reported that Belichick preferred to have Brady stay but he could accept if he left as well. That doesn't sound like a guy who was pushing Brady out the door.

Brady didn't want to be here anymore. Showed it in his attitude last year and how he's doing things differently this year as the article I linked demonstrated. He walked out the door all on his own with no help from anyone.

He preferred to have Brady stay making less money this year than he did last year. He didn't make him any decent offer at all. Like I have said since the spring, Bill figured Brady would take crap deals forever and it blew up in his face this year because he had not plan at QB.

If banishing Guerrero from the plane and team facility was not Belichick going out of his way, I don’t know what is.

at the end, it was an ego thing. Brady wanted a little appreciation late in his career after all he has done for the franchise but Bill didn’t want to do that because in his mind, it is all his doing.

he had always diminished Brady’s accomplishments over the years and he never took criticism really well (we see that this year with all his excuses) but he had no problem criticizing players behind close doors. I think Bill has a huge ego and is more a me person that we believed. I think he is the kind of guy who wants praise when everything is good and no criticism when thing are bad.

I don't want your pocket passer back. He left the Pats.
So if your employer offered to pay you significantly less then another place and wouldn’t commit to you having the job for more then a year you wouldn’t take another offer?

I agree. Bill is a very small person. Always has been. We just glossed over it because of all the winning with Brady.

That’s not true. Bill was ok to have him but at Bill’s terms. He wanted Brady at year to year incentive based contracts. If you’re the best player ever and still playing at a high level why should Brady play on a prove it 1 year deal.

Maybe he did expect that but Brady was never one to show any interest in taking big contracts and being paid. Weird that he'd start now. He's set for life no matter how much he was getting paid.

Brady wanted to move on, the decision was made long before the end of the season, and I don't fault him for that. His right to do so. Now maybe there is something to the idea Bill was caught unprepared for the transition. I wasn't really advocating for Newton when it was first brought up but in the summer I thought having Newton here on a cheap deal with something to prove and a really good defense was a sensible enough plan for a bridge year, and then we'd find out what we had in Stidham. Unfortunately Stidham didn't pan out as a viable alternative, Newton often looked like a guy whose mechanics are messed up and defense took a massive step backwards from last year for a variety of reasons. Don't know what the alternative should have been. It wasn't Brady - there was no chance he was staying.

Anybody know anything about this Texas wedding that Stidham attended that the Pats supposedly told him not to go to? Makes me wonder what Butler did to get into Bill's mysterious doghouse.

$25 mil a year is no where near a big contract for the GOAT that brought in six rings. Bill could have easily signed him and pushed the money out. He wanted him gone.

Belichick absolutely has a huge ego - many of the greats do. But let's not pretend that Brady doesn't have a huge ego either and like Bill he too wanted to prove something on his own away from the other guy.

Belichick did the right thing re Guerrero imo. I didn't like Brady's association with this guy. It's a situation that's a surprise PED bust waiting to happen and that's the one and only way Brady can completely have his legacy completely torpedoed.

I didn't want to believe it at first but I do now. Bill torpedoed the Super Bowl with this move and it sucks.

In the end, it is pretty simple. Both have huge egos.

Brady wanted some appreciation and confidence in him after 17 years, he thought he deserved that. Bill didn’t want to give it to him.

so it turned in:

Bill: I ban your trainer
Brady: fine, I will not come to OTAs anymore

Brady: I want a 3 years contract
Bill: you will only get one year
Brady: Ok, I want 30 mil a year then.

it was very childhish on both end at the end and it is sad that they didn’t came to a consensus.

The OTAs was about benching Butler in the SB. That is when things fell apart not only for Brady/Bill but for Gronk and Amendola too. Think about the type of game that offense had and the historic numbers Brady was putting up with Gronk and then Bill sits their best DB and they lose to Foles.

I agree it all started with the SB against the Eagles.
Gronk retired because physically he needed a break but mainly in my opinion because he didn’t want to play for Bill anymore.

Gronk would not have come back if Brady was still with the Patriots

Because he was old, late season injuries each year. It made no sense to give multiple years to a guy playing at an age no one had done before.

This is 100% wrong.

There were 2 paths.

One was to free up about 25M in cap by letting more good players walk so they could have enough space to sign Brady. This option was understandably not acceptable to Brady. It made absolutely no sense for neither party to return together with a worse team than last year.

The other path was to go their separate ways. And, with the benefit of hindsight, it was the only path that made sense.
