Michael Onwenu

Get rid of Cannon. Let Andrews walk.

Roll with

LT Wynn
LG Onwenu
C Thuney
RG Mason
RT Elu/Herron/Cajuste

While "getting rid" of Cannon saves 7M on the cap, there is a significant drop off between Him and the guys you mentioned.

That will remain to be seen for the simple fact that if Cannon hypothetically plays next year he's doing it after not playing one snap in 18 months and will be 33 going into next year combined with his injury history the drop might not be as significant especially with Herron and Elumunor getting playing time at RT in the system this year because Cannon isn't there.

And Cannon returning is a big IF, if things haven't really improved I don't think he'll opt in next year and at that point he'd be a 34 year old RT at a $9m cap hit who hasn't played in 2.5 years if he came back in 2022.

Honestyly, this Covid garbage is ridiculous. It's no worse than the flu even with the "spikes" they're having.
Cannon very well may retire, and then it's a moot point. But every thing you mentioned has Zero bearing on Stone's ridiculous rantings. Plain and simple. The fact remains that Cannon is head and shoulders above both Herron and Eluemenor until proven otherwise. Thinking that his contract has ANY bearing on getting a deal done with Thuney (which is the basis for Stoner's rant) is just ridiculous spazzing on his part.

I was dead wrong about this guy, his college film looked lackluster and I thought he was immobile and didn't have the punch you would expect for his size.

The guy is a beast so far.

Just to be clear, in no way was I trying to back captain troll's points. I agree if Cannon came back tomorrow and was in game-shape he would start Sunday and would probably be penciled in as the starting RT if he told the Pats he is 100% returning next year, but it also wouldn't surprise me if he came back and had lost step and he got Mankins'd because Bill thought "a year soon, then a year later". No one thought he'd ditch Mankins and then Pats went on to win the SB that year and got the draft pick that drafted Trey Flowers who helped Pats go to 3 straight SBs and win 2.

*Eluemunor

Wow, that's crazy the Patriots have 2 guards who are better than Onwenu. My uneducated ass still resents him for his injury history and the Eagles strip sack. Would rotating Onwenu in mess with chemistry, or that's not an issue if it fits the play's scheme?

vs the Chiefs I think...
Wynn-Thuney-Ferentz-Onwenu-Herron
...played 100% of snaps.

I wonder why Herron started over Eluemunor and if he's better.

Eluemunor had a bad headache before the game, and was held out.

True I forgot about the migraines, that makes sense now.

So how do Onwenu and Mason compare, once the latter is healthy?

He has the power, length, size, and meanness to be a good lineman for a long time. There have been doubts about his speed and ability to pull and block in space, as opposed to in a tight box, so that bears watching. But he is a good interior mauler, inside run blocker, and pass protector against bull-rush type defenders, even as a rookie.
HeHeHe..... Tight box....

Onwenu being used a decent amount as a 6th OL

Honestly, I would have Thuney at center, Onwenu at LG and Herron over Eleumenor.

Andrews is only above Average at Center. Thuney is Elite. And he showed it.

LT Wynn
LG Thuney

Was impressed by Eleanor. Maybe in '21 he makes the starting lineup. I like Andrews but he's too injury prone. Maybe slide Thuney to starting center, Onwenu at LG, and Eleanor at RT.

.

I'm confused... Thuney and "injury prone" do not ever belong in the same sentence. Lol
