LOL. So much salt over Tom's comment.

"Salt"? What does that mean.

I remarked that Tom speaking of his own greatness seems to be a deviation from his usual self. Upset, bitter, or anything along those lines because he said that? Of course not. Why would I (or anyone) be upset over that comment?

Just making an observation.

TB12 had a C+ game for me. Made some beautiful throws, 2 which should've been TDs. My concern going into the year with him was his arm , but their is plenty of it left. They have to get more chemistry though, but they will be there in January for sure

To be clear, I don't hate Brady; I think he's the best QB to ever play the game and I'm forever appreciative of what he did in NE. But I think his priorities have shifted and as the petty, spiteful, bitter ex I am, I'll call him out. LOL. I kid, I kid.

All kidding aside, again - Tom speaking of his own greatness is not something we'd ever expect of him in NE so it caught me off guard. I expect you'd be singing a different tune if this was Rodgers, or Manning, or Mahomes, or Brees, or Roethlisberger, or pre-NE Newton, being quoted as saying, "It's a blessing and a curse, the drive of being great".

This is the same Brady who was in New England for 20 years.

He was never a guy who was great with the English language, and he often made fun of himself for not being the best student. He probably didn't score high on his SATs.

BUT, let me translate what he said for you. He meant that the drive for greatness is general--for anyone--helps you (obviously) but can also hinder you.

Was not directly responding to you but to other posters who see to have a hair across over his greatness comment.

Same Brady who was in New England for 20 years? Of course not. You'd be hard-pressed to find any human being who is the same person at 43 as they were at 23.

That aside, I do tend to agree with your final paragraph. It was an out-of-context quote from a play-by-play guy. It's perfectly likely that it was a misquote, too.

Qq
tell...what exactly does this mean? You get some kind of cutesy wootsey points for making such a meaningless statement? I watched the game also...I saw TB win easily from start to finish. Where did the "outplay" part of your assertion figure into the convincing win by TB?

Other than the Fournette TD, the Bucs offense didn't do much in the 2nd half. I saw a different game than you did.

Yeah they did. I actually watched the game

It amazes me that after decades of watching football you couldn't see what the Bucs were doing. Once they were up by 21 points they totally stopped going downfield and played it safe, not to risk an easy turnover. The turnover came anyway, but they ran it a lot more in the 2nd half than they did in the first half, and Brady stopped looking downfield. This is why the flea flicker worked so well (though Brady rushed the throw).

We've seen the Patriots do this a million times when they are up by 21.

It's amazing. Brady is easily the most psycho-analyzed player in the NFL precisely because he hardly if every talks about his greatness despite being the winningest QB in NFL history. Any inkling of him saying he is great player is met with howls of disdain yet every single other great player from any sport not only touts their greatness but is applauded for doing so. SMH

Probably a little of both. Seems clear that Tom's priorities and personality have changed a bit over the past 5'ish years.

There's a distinction between trash talk and self aggrandizement.

No--he's the same guy. Wants to win another Super Bowl.

I'd have to think about that. May I ask why it's relevant?

The conversation isn't about if NFL QBs are grounded; the conversation is about (what I believe to be is) a shift in Tom's personality over the past 5'ish years. It's just an observation.

Because Brady is the most humble never-get-in-trouble QB I've ever seen. There's never been a bigger team player at that position. And nothing has changed--except in the minds of some Patriots fans last spring.

Agree but it comes from the same place I think. Brady isnt this humble team first guy that he has been portrayed to be.

Same football guy.

Same attitude toward football.

I really don't care about his personal life.

Since when does Bill play it safe up 21-0 at the start of the end half? You obviously haven't been watching Patriot football.

Not really.

1.) Brady seems like the most psycho-analyzed player to you, because you are a Tom Brady fan and therefore consume content re: Tom Brady, while remaining less aware of content re: QBs not named Tom Brady.

2.) Tom's comment about his greatness has not been met with disdain; it has been met by a few people remarking that it seems out of character, and it's hard to imagine Tom saying such a thing 7, 9, 12 years ago.

3.) Certainly not EVERY other NFL players speaks of their own greatness, but yes, Brady was largely an exception with his grounded humility when discussing himself and his legacy.

Moreover, I can ASSURE you that if any other prominent NFL QB (Rodgers, Brees, Watson, Mahomes, Manning, Wilson, Newton, Roethlisberger) spoke of their own greatness, they'd be absolutely roasted on this forum, and have been.

Are you serious?

I can't believe you're serious.

Belichick totally deflates the ball when he has a big lead (no pun intended). ALL THE TIME.

Oh it’s the Tom I definitely remember.
“17 points? That’s it? Haha yeah ok”
“Haha maybe they should read the rule book”
Jesus, more ha ha Brady bad crap. Broken record.

Same football guy.

Same attitude toward football.

I really don't care about his personal life.

Hard to say what his football priorities are.

Still a driven, focused, motivated player? Absolutely.

Beyond that, we really don't know much about what he specifically values and prioritizes re: football, schematics, personnel, etc, and if/how that has changed over the past 20 years.

Didn’t you say you were ignoring me?

That’s ok I’ll add you now to my ignore list too cause reading whiny posts directed at me is boring.
