Hightower Opts Out

There will be no NFL season. Because of a lack of players.

I just can’t see it happening not without a bubble. I saw what happened to MLB who also has no bubble and it’s a mess. When the flood of opt outs happen and when the Covid IR fills up there might not even be a viable product out there and the “champion” will be tainted for obvious reasons.

Very pessimistic about the chances.
I think we should just wait and see at this point though. There’s nothing fun about constantly chiming away about it. We all know that’s a very real scenario that can play out, might as well think about football until they tell us “no football”

That I don’t agree with. Many UDFA’s will want their shot all things considered.

The NFL played with entire taxi cab squads in 1987. They’ll be willing to throw weaker rosters out there. Lack of player interest won’t be the issue here.

If it’s just Jason we can manage considering our depth. But could be Devin too. That would be tough.

The flipside of Hightower opting out is that Jennings and Uche will get more reps in their rookie year which might pay off down the road. Especially with Copeland also providing some vet reps.

DMac opting out would be a major problem. He plays so many roles in various personnel packages.. I think you'd see major regression from the secondary if they'd have to replace his snaps with a mix of other players.

The difference is there is a pandemic. UDFA's are not immune to the pandemic.

Can't have DMac opting out. I wonder how many discussions team executives are having with players they know they can't afford to lose.

Just saying "there's not gonna be a season!" and nothing else is silly. There might not be, but claiming as much right now seems pointless, and not conducive to a discussion.
Would you rather have everyone argue and stress out over something that won’t matter if there isn’t season anyway? NFL has played this thing perfectly. If there’s no season, it’s the players faults. If there’s a scab filled season, it’s the players faults.

There will either be no season or it will be like a replacement player season.

they might be willing to risk it though, just like waiters and store clerks, etc.

If public health officials shut down the league...

I think the argument here is that UDFA/late round pick players will want to earn some cash whereas vets who are on their second or third contract already have gotten a nice chunk of money from playing.

So for those the math on risk/benefit will naturally be different than for players like Hightower, Cannon or even Bolden.

Screw it lets make this year wilder. Clowney and AB sign them up.

Everyone right now is reassessing with what happened with the Marlins.

But hell, I just watched the Premier Season and Serie A go off without hitch. I am jealous of the Europeans who somehow pulled off a sports season. They are definitely going to have soccer this fall too.

A little more simple to pull off when your country doesn't turn wearing a mask into a political battle.

It'll be great to see all the footy pajama fan boys on here when the Pats are 3-9 after half the team "opts out" bc wuhan flu... Fake fans will drop like flies

You hit the nail on the head here. They can play a full sports season because they got the virus under control in the larger population. We are trying to play sports while the virus outbreak is literally the worst it has been since this started. The Titanic has has the iceberg

Just cancel the season now. Rip off the band aid.

Let’s hope dugger can be that true in the box safety and help fill the gap left by Hightower

Why is the alternative arguing? Not what I said at all. I said that just exclaiming "not gonna be a season!" without any further dialogue is silly. This is a forum after all - talking about why you think that and having a discussion with your fellow members is the whole point. Just making a big claim and leaving does the opposite of that.
