I'm extremely grateful that I got to see the team I chose to follow reach the mouintaintop while the sport was still recognizable. I would prefer otherwise, but if the NFL wants to burn, I can live with it now. Let them burn.

The farce of it all is that NFL claims that they are making these changes to improve the safety of the game for the players.

Watch any post season game and witness the hits to the head and much worse. Rarely is a flag drawn because the NFL doesnt want to ruin the product on the field. BB himself stated that the Refs keep their whistles in their pockets during the post season and that remains mostly true even in the era of the NFL trying to cover themselves from liability for brain injuries.

You can't light up the idiot who didn't call fair catch on a ball where he's going to get crushed. Now, he doesn't have to call for it, and you can't drill him the way you could before.

My take.

The defense times a savage hit seconds after the returner catches the ball. He gets lit up. That is legal assuming the returner did not signal for a fair catch.

The returner did not have time to avoid contact since he was focused on first possessing the ball.

The onside kick isn't some exception that requires special rules. It's just a kick off where you hope for a muff, yes? Having a weird new modality in the rules just for this one type of play doesn't make sense to me.

I remember (a long time ago) a Tampa player that never signaled for a fair catch. Honestly, that was exciting. I don't remember him ever fumbling either.
