We weren’t supposed to get ANYTHING for Gronk. We had no leverage. A 4th rounder in itself is a steal.

People complaining they lost a 7th are pretty funny. What do you think 7th round picks are for other than sweeteners in this kind of thing? Drafting studs like Danny Etling and Ken Webster? They have 12 or 13 picks, they're going to be trying to give away those 7ths on Saturday to move up a few picks in the 5th round.

The 7th rounder is legitimately nothing. Yes good players come from it but its also more often than not being used on the Etlings of the world. Couldn't they at least get a 3rd? Or OJ Howard?

You'd like to give up another asset to get him? What sense does that make?

This was the perfect scenario to acquire a young TE with promise with no real loss and it was somehow screwed up to epic proportions.

No because I think in both situations it was mutual. BB wanted to move on from Tom if he got too pricy and Gronk was not going to be on the 2019 team if he wanted to.

I'm not saying it wasn't mutual. An employee's view of their boss is a thing, was all I was pointing at.

I’m amazed they got what they did for him. Blocking aside, he’s not worth anything like that now.

He will be a fine red zone and third down target for Brady. As he knows exactly what Tom thinks.

But I'd be pleasantly surprised if he could return back to his 2016, 2017 form.

There's a quote out there that says something along the lines of "getting a player to play at the highest level isn't always a lot of fun" or something like that. That's what we have here. Gronk wants to have fun and be gronky (thanks Viv), Bill wants him to be the best.

If any of you have seen that quote or know who it is from, let me know.

Belichick has gone out of his way to talk about how Gronk is one of the hardest working, hardest playing guys he's ever been around in his decades of coaching.

The goofy persona you see from Gronk hides the effort he puts in.

I don't know what he has left. He was blocking a lot at the end of his Patriots career. And he's lighter now, which doesn't bode well for smashing into defensive tackles.

Maybe i'm wrong but I think Gronk didn't see eye to eye with Belichick prior to his retirement and decided he didn't want to play anymore for that reason - since they say Brady was never going to return because him and Bill didn't see eye to eye perhaps this was the same situation and Gronk was always going to play somewhere once Brady left to go elsewhere and re-join him - I think this was in the works secretly between the 2 players in early 2019 long before Gronk retired

No it isn’t. Howard is talented, young and healthy..albeit totally misused by Arians. Gronk has no value compared to Howard.

Maybe Gronk does well, who knows.
