(MOD EDIT:) SPECULATION: Gronk to be traded to Tampa Bay?

Suppose Gronk could un-retire anyway and try to force their hand with his cap hit against their tight cap room but Bill could trade him wherever he wants. Wouldn't be shocked to see Bill cut Sanu and Cannon just to make room to absorb Gronk and make him languish on the roster until the compensation is good enough.

I think it is much more likely they find a way to clear up the cap space necessary -- especially with the huge bank we have next year -- than cutting actual contributors.

Hell the way that nobody can pass a medical for the next couple of weeks anyway, I am not even sure Gronk could even be moved before the AB grievance is handled.

I'd give them Gronk for Brady straight up.

Damn, it is a very long season made worse by tooooo much time on our hands and not a lot to do.

I'm sure Belichick has no interest in helping Brady do well in Tampa.

BB could not care less, either way.
If some trade of Gronk's rights to Tamper improved the 2020 Pats and/or thereafter, BB would do it.

I thought we were 8-8/9-7 with Brady. Who knows what the floor is with this year's squad. In the end, though, the more we use this year to rebuild the better.

I felt that we were looking at a 10-6/11-5 season with Brady at the helm, all the losses at linebacker, with the same WR's...but Harry/Meyers being better and Edelman/Snau being healthier, Develin returning..or Vitale kicking ass...or us fixing the running game.....

I think we would have been better in 2020 than 2019, but versus a harder schedule.

Now with Stid....I am not sure. If we get the running game going...and pick up a TE that can make some plays...I think the floor is still 8 wins. I could see us going 8-8 with us losing 4-5 games by a single score or less....and still be in the AFCE hunt in late December....

This garbage is really beginning to make me angry. You don’t have a friend in the Pats personnel department. You just don’t. If ya did, you wouldn’t be running to a message board to shout at the rooftops whatever he tells you. Also, if ya really did have a friend in the know, why wouldn’t it be true? Why would you take it for what it’s worth? Does your top secret source lie to you often? This source of yours is finishing up the paperwork but has no idea what we’ve got in return? I mean, come on people. If ya wanna talk about a topic, talk about it. No need to make up imaginary friends within the organization.
you seem angry

OK

It is just possible that Gronk would consider coming out of retirement, only to play with Brady. We have no way of knowing. Perhaps, Brady called up Gronk to see if there was any interest.

This COULD BE an opportunity for the patriots. The obvious trade is for us to send the rights to Gronk for one of their TE's. What if any draft choices need to be involved is another issue.

Let's be clear. If this is a straight up deal, we get one our needs met, a TE. And we would give rights that have no value to the patriots unless another team wants the rights and Gronk is willing to play for them.

Would LOVE a straight up deal for the TE

OJ Howard is now on the trade block. If my source is right and the retirement papers are in motion for Gronk then perhaps we do trade Gronk for Howard and probably have to kick in another late round pick.

dont look now but OJ Howard is on the trading block

BREAKING NEWS! (other than the separate thread about Howard being on the trading block that was started at 8:30 AM today)

Also, Gronk has not swashed any mention of him going to Tampa. Interesting times.

Why would he? He is getting free attention and making Twitter dweebs crap their pants. Must be fun.

lol, “ my source...”

Then I really wish he had informed Bill of his intentions before the free agency period began, instead of two weeks before the draft.
I do too. However, for a team that prepares for everything they were pretty unprepared for it and it's not like the decision came out of the blue.

For me, the three transactions are totally independent.

1) trade Gronk for whatever we can get (YES)

2) trade for Howard even if costs two pick. (YES)

3) trade Edelman for a 3rd or 4th (NO). Edelman is our #1 WR. Perhaps he won't be great, but having him allows those behind him to have weaker coverage. Having Harry, a rookie and Sanu is much worse than have these three plus Edelman.
