Nostalgia Time: Great Patriots Role Players & One Hit Wonders

Stevan Ridley. In his first year starting, he rushed for 1,200 yards and 12 TD’s giving the Pats a much needed boost in the ground they haven’t had since Corey Dillion. It came to a crashing end when Bernard Pollard took his soul in the AFCCG. He struggled opening day in 2013 and took a very careless hit from a defender while doing the splits and losing the football. He tore his ACL which was the nail in the coffin for his career.

Grant "Turnstile" Williams ... LT ... SB 36

The Rams had a very good D-Line, and with Light down late in the first half, most of us cringed when we saw Turnstile manning the LT position. Damn if he didn't do a good job.

I still think Troy Brown is massively overlooked. A great special teams guy, receiver, also played defense when needed. Ultimate leader and team guy, and was there while we had multiple amazing win streaks spanning multiple seasons.

.

I can't think of Troy as neither a role player and certainly not a one-hit wonder. 15 year Patriot career, three rings, played in all three phases of the game, and is arguably still on staff. Dudes a Patriots institution.

So I guess I'm agreeing with your post, just not his inclusion in this list.

I think the Pats are the only team with three OT postseason wins. All three on first-possession drives after winning the coin toss.

I hope the Pats find a red jacket small enough when they induct the coin into the HOF.
OT has been kind to Boston teams
From Mel Hill to Nathan Horton

A few for me (in no particular order):

- Ted Washington
- Revis
- LaFell, though he was here multiple seasons but he never came close to 2014 production
- Adalius Thomas

Here's one that may not be popular. Laurence Maroney. He took the team to the Super Bowl in 2007.

Agree but Brown was not a one hit wonder. Had one ProBowl year but was a key contributor for 5 more

How can we forget:

I have a SB42 commemorative coin. If it didn't have decent value I'd throw it in the trash

pre 'Dynasty' [The Big Valley?]

Anyway, Eugene Profit blocking a punt in crunch time to beat the Saints at the Super Dome in '86 for our 7th straight win
Linda Evans? JR was Dallas. Linda was Dynasty.

David Patten deserves some love. He had that sick game in Indy on 2001, then continued a very good season with 749 yards, 4 TDs and a huge play keeping possession while knocked unconscious in Buffalo. In the playoffs, he had 8 catches for over a hundred yards in the snow, including a monster 4th down conversion in OT. He followed that up with TDs against Pittsburgh and St. Louis, scoring two of the three total offensive TDs that postseason.

His opportunity for contributions started to fade once Branch and Givens emerged, but he was there for the rest of that early dynasty. In 2004, Branch missed a bunch of games and Patten stepped in, responding with 800yds receiving and 7 TDs while holding down the fort. The guy was nails and I was sad to see him depart after that season.

Regards,
Chris

One play...Freddie "Boom Boom" Coleman

This was absolutely one of the handful of major, necessary plays in winning that game and making that season a success. It was a flash of Brady's greatness in his first year starting.

Alcides Catanho... One of the funnest Patriots names of all time...

Another ST one hit wonder was Bernard Russ...I remember he decapitated a guy on a punt or kick return
